Twin jagged spikes rose out of the Beast's malformed skull, ready to skewer the very stars themselves. A pair of malevolent, crimson orbs floated above the rows of serrated spikes haphazardly joined by its jaws, swearing an end to all they gazed upon. The abomination had no face, no skin stretching over its hideous features. It's behemoth body darker than the very void it writhed in, every shambling step it took blotted out the stars behind it. The Beast had two heads on either side of its animal torso, each more terrible than the other. Four arms jutted out from underneath it, unsteadily holding its dark mass up. The closer one looked, the more unnatural and uncomfortable the being appeared.

Its very existence was suffering, for it was born from the grief in men's hearts. Hatred and malice nurtured it, and every sorrowful tear spilled made it stronger. The primal entity came into being the moment the first man became unsatisfied with life, and in turn, wished for the escape that was death. Time only spurred it to grow as every man, woman, and child born since came at one point in their life to, however slightly, yearn for death.

Erebus had one goal; end its suffering. To do that, it would have to end the suffering of man, and what way to better end mankind's suffering, than to end mankind?

The fell beast sought Nyx, the Planet Eater, and aimed to bring the prophesized Fall of all living things. It was not meant to be, however. Erebus could never reach Nyx, not while she was sealed away by a son of man.

The soul of one human boy stubbornly blocked its path. No matter how much it thrashed and snarled, bit and clawed, howled and screamed, the gate would never open. The soul of the boy, he was not yet a man, formed golden gates around the true form of Nyx. Drained of its vital essence, the hero's soul turned to stone and bound the great barriers shut, for all eternity.

His job done, and his life spent, the Savior's journey ended. Assured that he had done his all to protect his friends, he had found his own answer to life's greatest question.

...Then why in the ever-loving fuck was he standing in some forest in the middle of nowhere?

Makoto Yuki was hopelessly lost. One moment he was in the Sea of Souls, forever acting as a bulwark against humanity's collective wish for death. And the next his eyes were blasted with sun rays sneaking past the canopy. Was he dreaming? No, he had no dreams as the Great Seal. His sacrifice rendered him a floating awareness floating in a stone body formed of his will to protect everyone. Those did not have dreams. He did not know where he was, but he would not let a little kidnapping break his spirit. He wouldn't have made it this far in his fight if his will was that weak.

Makoto Yuki had no idea what had happened, but he intended to find out just what the fuck was going on.
