"This amount of damage is far more severe than even my most egregious of estimates..."

Seated atop the black box components that served as the last remaining bastion of Ashe-0's virtual consciousness, as well as any hopes for her reconstruction, the tiny cyber-sprite Faise carefully read through the list of data being streamed to her sensors from the comparatively massive cube.

It was perhaps a two-foot cube, composed uniformly of matte black and gray material somewhere between metal and plastic. A new blend of alloy no doubt named after its discoverer or creator, then unceremoniously modified for use with the nanite and reconstruction protocols of their war machines and given little more than a serial number typing designation to streamline its use. Nigh-indestructible, and almost hilariously difficult to get the manufacturing tolerances just right, the sheer cost and time behind it were the only reason that they hadn't started making the entire endoskeletons and armor plating of the war units out of the stuff.

Not that it mattered; even the small amount in the casing for this thing was enough to keep the relatively delicate parts inside safe.

But as she perched on the edge of the casing, reading the diagnostic reports through the dedicated hardline connection she'd finally managed to establish after what felt like days of effort, Faise was...extremely uneasy. The amount of damage and degradation she was seeing in the system logs was nothing short of astronomical.

"The physical damage is understandable, given the records of the overloading power core," the tiny fairy-boy murmured, flicking one holo-display aside. "The damage to data integrity in the last moments is easily explained away by the same. The further-reaching corruption beyond that, though..." Fully flexing her more thorough emotional response simulations, the assistant drone frowned, her brows furrowing deeply over the visor she wore. "Ashe-0...how long were you active without proper maintenance?"

Moments of silence stretched on as Faise worked, with only the groaning and sighing of dusty wind and the fitful screeching of derelict machines trying desperately to still move to accompany her efforts. "Total activation time...one year, seven months, two weeks, four days. Total maintenance time performed...no logs found?"

Faise recoiled slightly at this revelation. "Even under the most hostile situations, basic routine maintenance is normally done at least once a month. The routine, nonsense equivalent of a human's regular medical checkup, just to keep records and make note of any problems so they can be fully diagnosed and repaired..." She brought both hands up and grasped at the holo-displays in front of her, hurling them to either side like piles of paperwork, where they all winked out of existence in washes of pixels and scattered to the wind like broken glass.

"In normal standing, you would be completely scrapped after so long without preventative software maintenance," the tiny drone muttered. "There's too much deviance from normal and safe parameters to ensure that you haven't begun to decline into rampancy and growth beyond programmed boundaries." Faise tapped at the emergency cube with two fingers, and then with a slow motion pulled up another holo-display from it. This one glowed a dark red, containing only a single button over which her hand hovered.

"....I suppose, however. These are not normal standards." And with a grimace, the fairy-bot shook her head and swept the display aside.

"You are, however, long overdue for reconstruction." She drew up another series of displays, arranging them before her to form one much larger one. "I can see the reason why. Data corruption from an external source has had you locked in emergency standby mode. Let's see if we can't purge that issue from you so you can get up and about again..."

Poring over and through the mess of data that was Ashe-0's recent memories was a frustrating and tedious task. Everything was a jumbled and chaotic mess, with fragmented and jumbled data scattered about haphazardly. Piecing anything at all together was enough of a chore, let alone getting it properly sorted and defragmented.

"It's a miracle you survived at all..." Faise murmured, her lips twisting into a grimace. "You overloaded your core. That should have been guaranteed destruction. That you escaped only with some compromised core data is remarkable." The tiny drone brushed aside a few layers of corrupted data containing some minor memory files. "A spiritually-inclined person might say something to the effect of 'you must have someone watching out for you', I suspect."

She paused, hovering over a corrupted but still functioning file. "...thankfully, however, we are above concepts like luck." She opened the file and set to work on repairing it, sifting through the raw binary data like a miner panning for gold.

"....there. Everything should be accessible again." After several hours of work, Faise sat back and commenced an integrity scan. When after several more hours it finally returned a satisfactory level, she nodded slightly. "Not up to optimal standards...but we would need a properly equipped lab for that. Are you ready for re-activation, Ashe?"
