I have been lost in the forest for nearly two weeks now. "How did I got in this situation in the first place" I wonder as I follow a river downstream, in hopes of finding civilization. This river was my life-line, since I could drink from it and hunt the animals who would do the same. However, its been two days since the last time I could find something, and I was growing worried.

The sun was starting to fall when my persistence in following the river was finally rewarded when the trees broke into a clearing, where smoke rose from the chimneys of a village. "Finally!" I started to walk towards the village, with a beaming smile on my face, when I looked towards the crops of the village, and my hope faded a little. While there was some wheat and vegetables planted, it was well kept, and most of it was getting rotten, and in disarray. Obviusly, this meant the villagers had not beed keeping them properly, if at all. Some cattle was left to roam freely, eating away leisurely. I hurried my steps, ready to find the village abandoned or worse, full of corpses.

But I didnt. In fact, I could hardly remember a village where the people looked as happy. Some were singing, others ran like children, chasing each other and laughing, while others simply sat there, smiling with their eyes closed. I was utterly dumbfounded. Confused, I walked towards what looked like a tabern, in hopes of finding some answers as to why everyone was so happy while they seemed so close to lose their crops. As I entered, I found a similar vibe in the air of the place, with people singing and dancing, eating and drinking as if they were on a festival. I went straight to the innkeeper and sat at the bar.

-Excuse me, I would like a mug of beer please. -I asked as I sat, putting a coin on the bar and catching the attention of the innkeper.

-Of course! But keep your coin, we dont need such a useless thing here. -Said the man, a browny man with a thick beard. He left me there with my mouth half open and served me a beer, looking as he was getting married.

-What do you mean you dont need it? And also, why is everyone here so happy? Your crops outside are dying and your cattle is on the lose, yet everyone is overjoyed and drinks and eats as if it was a festival! - I sound almost desperate when I say it, but I cant help it. The innkeeper, in contrast, looks as if I just told him the best joke he ever heard. He and everyone nearby who heard me bursted into laughter, and I started to feel very uncomfortable.

-Thats why I said we dont need it! Food, drinks and money are meaningless as long as we have the elixir our Great Lord gives us. It makes you happy and fills you with happyness! Stranger, you must simply look at us!- The browny inkeeper hugged me with one arm and started laughing again, and everyone started to sing around me. Looking at them closely, I could see bags under the eyes of the villagers, and many showed minor injuries that were left untreated and minor signs of desnutrition. Whatever was happening here, it wasnt healthy for these people, no matter how happy it made them.

"Just... what the fuck is going on here?" Totally confused, I resolved to solve the mystery of this strangenly happy village. It would be difficult alone, what I really doubt I can find someone to help in such a remote place.
