Character Name: Ovidia

Character Source: OC

Starting Location: Erde Nona

Character Behavior:
Ovidia is an amiable medic. She is extremely sociable and outgoing, often giving a heartfelt compliment, a giddy smile, or a big hug to anyone she considers a friend (which is most people). She enjoys bringing a smile to other people's faces, and will go out of her way to cheer up someone feeling down.
Ovidia is also a medic. She applies her medical knowledge on the use of salves, medicines and herbs to treat injuries on the battlefield. She is fiercely protective of her allies, and only attacks to defend herself or others. Despite this hesitancy to fight, she is capable with staff-like weapons like her shepherd's crook. She is able to stay relatively cool under pressure.

She is a helpful young lady who always puts her best hoof forward when meeting new people. She is relatively naive about both the world and about people, but is intensely curious. Because of this, she approaches every new setting and interaction with wonder and excitement. She is extremely outgoing and will often initiate interactions with others with a question, a compliment, or a simple friendly "hello."

Because of her naivety she is extremely impressionable, but she always acts with the best of intentions. It is her goal in life to be as helpful as possible to everyone around her, and will go to extreme lengths to aid someone even at the cost of her own interests. Her tendency to rely on the affirmation of others is a flaw that she is not currently aware of, seeing these behaviors as aspects of being a good person and friend. Deep down, however, this need to please others stems from a deep-seated fear of rejection and low self-esteem.

Despite being extroverted, she enjoys moments of quiet. She spends these moments knitting, studying, or taking long walks in nature. Her curious nature leads her to study all kinds of subjects, but medicine is her favorite. Due to the diverse population of the crossroads, she enjoys spending time researching the anatomies of the various species she interacts with. Her most extensive anatomical knowledge applies to her friends and allies, so she can know exactly how to treat an ailment or injury should the need arise.

Physical Description:

Ovidia is a sheep centaur, her body based on the Columbia sheep. Her back reaches a height of 3' 1" and her head reaches a height of 5'3". She weighs in a 279 lbs total. She produces medium diameter white wool, which is handy for spinning and knitting. She prefers to keep her wool at mid-length. Her skin is a light brown, with green eyes and rectangular pupils. Her nose is flattened, and her ears are those of a sheep. Her hair is long, white and wavy with bangs that get into her eyes without frequent haircuts. She keeps two braids on either side of her bangs. Because she is a ewe, she does not have horns.

She wears a white tunic and simple front-lacing leather bodice, along with a a saddlebag. She keeps a loose fitting, grey knitted sweater with her for colder climates.

Character History:

Ovidia is not from The Crossroads, having been transported here mysteriously just before her father delivered what would have been a fatal blow.
She is the king's daughter, and the product of a curse. After her father came to power, he decided to throw a feast in his own honor with lamb as the main course. Despite having a large flock of sheep, he decided it would be better to collect tribute from a nearby shepherd instead. After requesting twenty lambs, the shepherd had informed him that a recent wolf attack had left his herd with only five animals- which he could not spare. Enraged by his refusal, the king took the lambs by force and slaughtered them. During the feast, the shepherd burst into the room and cursed the king, saying that if he desired lambs that much, he would have one more.
The queen, who had been pregnant at the time, shortly delivered both the baby and the fulfillment of the curse. Their daughter was a monster- a grotesque half human half sheep creature. The king nearly killed her on sight, but was stopped by the queen. She feared that killing the monster would only further incur the wrath of the curse. The king acquiesced, and sent the monster to be raised by his personal shepherd with the instructions that she would be raised with the herd and kept unseen. She was to be kept as close to a sheep as possible, with no instruction in language and no parental care.
The shepherd agreed, but secretly raised the monster as his own daughter, naming her Ovidia. She grew up in the shepherd's hut, with the castle visible in the distance. He kept her sheltered from the outside world, only ever letting her outside in their rural strip of land to help tend to the sheep. Other than this isolation, she was raised as a normal child with all the love and attention the shepherd could spare. On her first birthday he gifted her a shepherd's crook, adorned with intricate carvings inlaid with silver and flowers holding special meanings.
She had always been enamored with the stories he had told her by the fire. However, when the time came for her to learn to read, the shepherd had quietly snuck into the king's library to find a proper book. He was caught by the book-keeper, who eventually found out why he was stealing from the king's private collection. She sympathized with the father, and agreed to come to his hut at nights to tutor the girl in reading, writing, and arithmetic.
As she grew, so did her curiosity. The book-keeper constantly brought her new volumes to pour over, but her favorites concerned medicine and herbology. By the time she was fifteen she had read all of the medical textbooks available to her, and practiced all that she could bandaging up her father when he was injured. She also performed extensive work with the flock- from delivering lambs to treating otherwise deadly injuries.
While caring for the flock she became familiar with combat, often having to fight off small packs of wolves and the occasional bear. Her natural agility made these tasks easier for her than for her father, though he never liked the idea of putting her in harm's way.
The king would make semi-annual visits to inspect the health of his herd. During these times Ovidia would need to assimilate into the flock and pretend to have no concept of language or education. She hated these times, finding them humiliating and demeaning. She did not understand why she couldn't show the king all that she could do- surely he had need for a skilled healer, or at least a scholar of some kind? Every year the shepherd never quite knew how to answer these questions, and insisted that the facade be kept up for at least one more year.
Her happy life came to an end when the king made an impromptu visit, and discovered her reading while tending to the flock. The guards seized her and the shepherd and brought them to the castle. Her father was sentenced to execution for treason. She was brought to the throne room to be dealt with by the king himself. It was there, in an angry tirade, that he revealed to her the circumstances of her birth. Despite the queen's pleas, he drew his sword and attempted to plunge it into her heart and end his curse once and for all. Before the tip of the sword could touch her wool, she was gone. She woke up in The Crossroads, dazed, confused, and clinging to her shepherd's crook with all her might.

Hi there!

Your app looks pretty good, just a couple things to touch on.

Your sense, speed, healing, and protection abilities would just be for short bursts as they are now. If this is intended, then there’s no issue, but if you wanted any of them to last longer then you’d need the Ongoing modifier on the relevant effects.

Additionally, the Removable modifier on Shepard’s crook would be applied for each rank of the effects it's being applied to (in this case, 2 for the Damage and 3 for the protection), so you would be saving 250 essence rather than 50.

Finally, a couple of rather minor things. You don’t need to specify the damage type when you purchase a Damage effect (that’s implied by the description), and your speed, sense, and agility abilities do technically require a name (even if it’s something simple as ‘speed’, ‘smell’, and ‘agility’)

Your essence totals add up to 1950, not 1850, but that’s no big deal. Just fix that up and you’re approved! When you’re ready, go ahead and post up your profile in the character profiles forum and you can start writing.
