Character Behavior
Eszter is a Tyrant Dragon

Raised in a noble household and filled with the pride and fury of a dragon, Ezster sees herself at the top of the world. Every authority around her, particularly Arcadia, is a blight upon the world that she envisions and should be burned away. In her mind, the world belongs to dragonkind rather than the humanoids that populate the crossroads (with herself belonging in the former camp rather than the latter, naturally), and there is nothing more disgusting or enraging than the existence and glorification of dragonslaying. However, she is not cruel. She does not kill innocents unnecessarily, and can be befriended with a healthy dose of praise and a donation to her hoard (gems and gold are accepted, but relics of the past are her favourite tithes). Additionally, she has a soft spot for the harmless and especially the goofy, often choosing to spare them unless in dire circumstances.

In combat, though she may not be as tough as a true dragon, she doesn’t need to be, easily strong enough to take on your average warrior either in close quarters or at a distance. She prefers to fight from a distance using her potent fire magic but, if push comes to shove, will fight tooth and nail (and occasionally horn) in melee. Furthermore, she can easily combine the two aspects of her fighting style, eagerly taking advantage of her innate fire resistance to blast a foe at close range, unconcerned about catching herself in the fireball.

Eszter stands at around 5’3” in height. Her upper back is covered in red dragon scales, but this is not something she will show anyone willingly.

Character History:

Extended history (approved by Alex, mainly just for context)

Centuries ago, a shooting star landed on Erde Nona. Crashing into the hinterlands, the people of the planet considered it nothing more than a curiosity until, years later, an adventuring party came across its impact site and saw something horrifying. What they had thought was a meteor had been found cracked open and hollow inside, small remnants of strange fluid splattered about. It was not a meteor at all. It was an egg.

They wondered what could have hatched from the egg, but their questions didn’t last long. Soon enough, as if roused to action by its discovery, a dragon began terrorizing the hinterlands. The scarlet beast which came to be named Yucatan had grown quickly, as large as any adult dragon at just a few years old. While her physical might was prodigious, her magical presence was the true threat. The world itself seemed to turn to dry, arid badlands around her, unconsciously expanding her territory as she carried out her rampage. Perhaps worst of all, though she rarely deigned to speak with anyone who came across her, the dragon wasn’t just sentient, but quite intelligent.

Recognising the threat that Yucatan, the self-proclaimed “Dragon Queen”, posed, Arcadia gathered its heroes and set out to end her campaign of destruction before it could spiral out of control. Though the identity of the dragon’s killer varies from telling to retelling, from a mortal warrior to a dragon allied with Arcadia to the arbiter of Erde Nona themself, she stood little chance against the empire in its golden age and was slain nonetheless. Her corrupted territory returned to normal and her name faded into a legend of the world, albeit a relatively popular one. And this is how the story should have ended, and as far as your average Arcadian is aware, it did.

But, as historians and mythologists have learned, it didn’t.

Decades later, another similar dragon emerged in the hinterlands, going on a rampage of its own before being slain. Then, a couple dozen years later, it happened again. And again. For whatever reason, Yucatan seemed to be endlessly reincarnating, though not without a cost. Each drake was progressively weaker than the last, requiring less and less manpower to kill each time, even as they stubbornly kept returning to terrorize Erde Nona. Until, finally, they stopped. None of these dragons have appeared in nearly a century, leading the few scholars who have thoroughly studied this tale to assert that Yucatan’s essence has finally been snuffed out. None of them have considered that, in its desperation, it might have taken on a new form.

Personal history

Eszter was born as a daughter of the Torchwood estate, a family of elves that, along with a few other families, had grown tired of life in Arcadia and left to create Zturving, a small colony in the hinterlands. As the biggest and most affluent of these families, the Torchwoods quickly became pseudo-nobility, further isolating themselves from their fellow colonists in their reclusive estate. Though privileged, Eszter’s childhood was relatively normal, but even at a young age, strange signs could be seen in her behavior.

They started small and easy to dismiss: a fascination with old stories, particularly that of the dragon Yucatan, and a strong affinity for Summer, but things became harder to ignore as she grew up, compulsively hoarding anything shiny she could get her hands on and beginning to refer to herself as a dragon rather than an elf. Her parent’s concerns that she might have an overactive imagination that could damage their reputation were banished and quickly replaced with a far worse fear as she continued to grow and, disturbingly, developed horns, scales, and glowing reptilian eyes.

Scared, confused, and desperate to maintain their status, the Torchwoods kept their draconic daughter housebound as she grew up, using the distance of the estate from the rest of Zturving to keep her presence a secret. Once she was an adult, however, they ultimately realized that there was little they could do to stop her if she wished to leave. Seeing no other choice, they reached out to an Arcadian sorcerer, a “dragon expert”, and called him to deal with her “condition”. Eszter agreed to see him, if only out of curiosity, until he arrived and she could immediately smell a stench that was simultaneously unfamiliar and immediately recognisable. He had the blood of a dragon on his hands.

The Torchwood estate burned down that night, taking the entire family and the sorcerer with it. It took the rest of Zturving almost a week to realize that it had, and when they did, they presumed that the mysterious daughter of the family had perished with her relatives. No one had considered that not only had she started the fire, but she had survived it. No one had realized that there was a new dragon in the hinterlands, freed to carry out her grand plans for the world.

Abilities/Skills:

Fireball

Damage - Rank 5 (500)
  • Ranged (250)
  • Affect multiple (20ft) (250)
  • Ongoing (Specialized, 0)
  • Indiscriminate (-250)

Total cost: 750

Eszter’s staple offensive spell, she conjures a tiny orb of fire at her finger tip, hurling it forward where it explodes violently into a ball of roaring dragonfire, damaging anyone caught inside and catching them alight.

Dragonheart

Protection - Rank 5 (500)
  • Ongoing (Specialized, 0)
  • Limited (Fire-based attacks) (-250)

Adaptation - Extreme heat (100)

Healing - Rank 1 (200)
  • Ongoing (Specialized, 0)

Total cost: 550

Though (mostly) physically an elf, Eszter’s body is infused with Old draconic magic. It is currently only a spark, but it is still sufficient to protect her (and her clothes, helpfully) from all but the most intense fire and grant her notably quicker natural healing than your average person.

Blood on Their Hands

Sense (Smell) - Rank 1 (100)
  • Ongoing (0, Specialized)
  • Limited (Dragonslayers) (-50)

Total cost: 50

Most do not realize, but when one slays a dragon, they are eternally marked. This mark is imperceptible to most beings, but as a reincarnation of the dragon queen, Eszter can smell the blood on the hands of any nearby dragonslayers.

Ancient Might

Move Object - Rank 3 (300)
  • Ongoing (Specialized, 0)

Damage - Rank 3 (300)

Total cost: 600

Though nothing compared to the might of a true dragon, Eszter’s magic-infused body is far stronger than one would expect from her frame, making her surprisingly dangerous in hand-to-hand combat.

Affinities: Specialized

Total Essence Spent: 1950
