Beat is an Impulsive Brawler.

Beat is Impulsive; he acts without thinking, doing what he thinks is best without hesitation or consideration for long-term consequences. He's not a complete idiot, and has been known to surprise people with sudden bouts of keen insight into a situation or another person, or twist orders around to benefit himself through exact wording. Beat does what he thinks is right, and damn the torpedoes.

Beat is a Brawler. While there are ranged options available to him in combat, and he does make use of them, it's usually to open up an opponent and allow him to close in and engage in a knock-down, drag-out melee brawl with them. His impulsive nature carries over to his style of combat; he frequently leaps before he looks, and he'll get into a fight based on whether he thinks someone needs to be fought, without a single thought given as to whether he can actually take them.

Description - Beat normally uses this Psych with his skateboard, but can do it with anything he can swing or spin, including his arms and legs if need be; by focusing his intent, he can create a blade of psychic force. Between skateboard tricks and the surprise applications of forming psychic beam swords around his limbs, Beat can get pretty tricky with Shockwaves.

Description - Beat sends out a series of chains that bounce off walls and wrap around obstacles in order to ensnare and slow down any enemies within a 20ft diameter sphere from his position when he initiates the ability. The chains are forged from psychic energy, and Beat needs to concentrate to keep them around, so he typically uses this ability in short bursts to capitalize on an opponent's openings.

Descriptor: By using his psychic powers, Beat can increase his speed by focusing on the music from his headphones. Activating this psych takes 30 seconds, but it persists for as long as Beat can maintain concentration on the music. He can also synch up with willing allies, allowing them to move at the same speeds as long as they stay close by. As a side effect, the psychic synchronization allows all affected allies to move in coordination, having the same awareness of the other people involved in the Soundsurf as they would of their own limbs. Allies can join the Soundsurf post-activation if they come within 20 feet of Beat while it is active. The effect immediately ceases to affect an ally if they leave that radius, but if they re-enter it they can rejoin the effect with no loss in effectiveness.

Character History:

Beat is a non-native who hails from Shibuya; specifically, the version Shibuya that hosts the Reaper's Game. Three years ago, he and his sister, Rhyme, were struck by a car and killed, and their souls were sent to an alternate version of Shibuya called the Underground, or the UG for short, to play in the Reaper's Game; a contest to determine which souls are worthy of a second chance at life. When his sister was killed and subsequently had her soul converted into a Noise, a native creature of the UG, Beat joined with the Reapers to learn how to bring her back. After a week of working with the Reapers, he joined with another contestant of the game, Neku Sakuraba, forfeiting his position within their ranks because of the unfair treatment they were giving Neku by entering him into a Game with only himself as a player.

As Neku's partner, Beat helped his fellow player take down the Conductor, Megumi Kitaniji, whose goal was to brainwash all of Shibuya in a misguided effort to protect it from itself. They confronted the Composer, a former partner of Neku's named Joshua, who made a wager with Neku for the ultimate fate of Shibuya. The next thing Beat knew, he, Rhyme, Neku, and Shiki were all alive again, and for the next three years, life was good for the four teens, until, when skating through Shibuya looking for the source of a disturbance in the RG, he found himself transported to a world he'd never even heard of before...
