It did not take her long to find her way into the Cevanti Military’s inner buildings. What had began as a casual walk ended up being a frantic jog by the end of it. The fact a few members had noticed she wasn’t necessarily supposed to be there seemed to be relatively meaningless - there were a few ‘not supposed to be here!’ and ‘don’t run in the halls, young lady!’ thrown at her, but she ignored them all and got off scot-free.
Perhaps they were expecting her. Perhaps some of them knew her from her mom.
Perhaps, she thought bitterly, a few of them had forgotten about her until ‘Dreemurr’ had flashed across her screen, and Toriel’s funeral had flashed in her head so they could connect the dots.
The tartness of the thought vanished in an instant, like seashells carried away by the tide.
Not a bit of it mattered as she rounded the corner. She’d already been told where he was, and she wasn’t about to waste her chance, now that she had it back.
She slammed open the door of the Military office with a loud ‘boom’, as the doorknob smacked into the wall. Really, it was just the Cevanti Military’s own faults for such an obvious vulnerability in their property damage potential. A large, boring office opened up to her as she scanned the room, seeing some irrelevant people saying various things she didn’t pick up on, a large wooden desk, some well set-up chairs, and a window that brought in some dull light to the place.
Fittingly, it shone on the brightest, fluffiest piece in the Room.
“Chara!” Asriel called, and the eldest Dreemurr shut out every stupid answer, every smart remark, every casual way of distancing that came to mind as she saw her little brother.
Her feet left the ground, and her hands went out as she launched herself, body going flying as she slammed herself into Asriel’s chest with the force of a Cruise missile, and sent Asriel flying with a grunt.
Luckily for both of them, The window she sent Asriel flying through was still on the first floor, as a bunch of anxious shouting erupted from behind them.
Chara didn’t care. She looked into Asriel’s eyes with the brightest smile she could manage, tears that had been held back for what felt like years finally able to flow as she had him pinned to the ground, before collapsing on top of him.
“I’m home, little brother.” Chara stammered out with a goofy grin, before soft, fluffy paws held her close and those big, warm eyes met hers with a dopey grin of their own.
“Welcome home, Chara.”
