Character Behavior
Mar’mako is an Ambitious Diviner. Though he serves as a speaker for The God Below, he is a schemer by nature, and seeks to benefit himself just as much as his deity.
In combat, Mar’mako can defend himself but mostly serves as a supportive caster, using the power of the Deep God to pull his enemies under the waves and prevent their escape while his allies tear them apart.
Physical Description:
Mar’mako is a member of the Mako’rei, a somewhat strange-looking race of amphibious creatures that can be found across the oceans of their world. His torso is reminiscent of that of a human, though it features four six-fingered arms, while his head resembles a cuttlefish devoid of tentacles, with a beaked mouth. Through much practice, he has learned to speak human languages through his beak. In the place of legs, he possesses four tentacles about a metre-long each. From head to tentacle-tip, he is eight feet tall, and his skin resembles that of an octopus. Mako’rei naturally develop shells over time, though Mar’mako frequently consumes a specially developed tonic to prevent its growth.
Character History:
Mar’mako was, as many of his kind are, hatched in one of the reef temples of Hadel’nkar, The God Below, or simply the Deep God to humans. Raised in the relative safety of the shallows, he was taught early to maintain his faith in his oceanic deity, and was rewarded with an affinity for taming sea monsters. Once he had reached adulthood, he left on a pilgrimage to the great depths where the grandest temples to The God Below were constructed, leaving with only a spear and his favourite beast, a monstrous shark that he had tamed as a young man.
He returned a changed Mako’rei, touched by Hadel'nkar, with the very ocean itself bending to his whims, but it was not enough. The power has gone to his head and his ambitions fell upon a great beast of legends, large enough to swallow a galleon whole. He was determined to break it to its will and his devotion to this mission ran so deep that he followed it down into the depths, far below what should have even been possible. To his frustration, his quarry managed to escape him in the dark of the bottom of the sea, and to his confusion, he surfaced not to his reef home, but the alien oceans of Opealon.

Foes caught in these waters will find it difficult to move properly as they churn rapidly, while Mar’mako’s allies will be inexplicably unaffected by the powerful currents. The churning will only last as long as Mar’mako remains still, raising his staff and channeling his power. If his concentration is interrupted or his staff is knocked from his grip, it will end immediately.
