“Mankind believes itself above the predation of any and all beasts. Our citadels of stone secure us. Our bronze-blades, guard us. And the Gods, they protect us.

But what is a bastion of stone, against darkness itself? How may a blade rend through blackness? How can the light of the Gods do anything, but create shadows?

Mankind believes itself above the predation of any and all beasts.

We are wrong.”

- Epigraph of the Liber Nox, c. AC 974. Author unknown.

Character Name: Gheist Vane Vortigern
Character Source: Original
Aliases/Monikers: 'Bloody Vortigern', 'World-walker', 'King in Red'

Starting Location: Cevanti
Point of Origin: Niflhel

Profession: Blood Knight
Echoed within the dead halls of Nifihel were grandiose tales of Knights. Blessed orders of men who swore allegiance to justice, gave their lives to a code of honour; Vortigern had called them kith and kin. And he had loved his people, and they in turn him; and he sought and rooted out evil without respite or rest. Yet above all, he had desired power - for he was a man, and suffered the percieved limitations that brought. The events leading to his apotheosis into a Vampyre are mired in myth and conjecture - some say the Knight was betrayed, others say he entered into a faustian pact, that his want for strength brought about his transformation into a monster.

As a Blood Knight, Vortigern acknowledges one core facet of a being's worth; strength. He eschews weakness with a derivitive contempt. Yet the World-Walker still upholds those core tenants of his Knightly vows, however twisted they may be. He will never strike down an opponent he deems beneath him, nor will he dishonour himself with shrewd tactics. As such, Vortigern is a remarkably easy beast to understand; simply find someone or something strong enough and he'll kill it for you without charge, complaint or question.

His visage is that of a duality cut between an untoucbable, stagnant beauty and the barely constrained blood-madness of a hungry beast. Haunting to see, yet horrible to behold. A cadaverous complexion devoid of blemish or imperfection, yet his body is marred with horrific wounds - as though the craftsman who has carved him grew dissatisfied with his work, and went about marring it with chisel and hammer. A jutting jaw of granite, contoured cheeks and thin pale lips that seem ever twisted into a knowing, cruel smile. Worst of all are his eyes; pitless, black things, devoid of iris or pupil. Their surface shifts and contorts like oil on water, likening his appearance to some deep-water predator of ancient myth.

A monster of a man, Vortigern towers over most. Close to three-meters in height when fully clad in his raiment, his skin does nothing to hide the chords of rippling, hard musculature that shifts with each idle movement of his form.

History (Non-Native):

Vortigern has walked a thousand worlds, and owned as many names. Spoken in whispered fear and reverence across countless plains, the Vampyre is known as either a saviour or a destroyer. It is the his will to surf against the skein of reality and search out worlds on which to test himself. And so he has done for as long as he can remember; his existence is war, and his coming brings it. Yet for every civilisation he has condemned to destruction he has saved as many as well - the Blood-Knight is dispassionate with moral or political alignment, where the strong reside is where he shall fight.

The Wild Hunt

His origins are mostly lost, even to him. Echoes of the past are murky at best, residual phantoms of memory of a time when he was mortal. Even still, his vows are unforgotten - he will neither stain blade nor mouth with the blood of the weak. Some would even go as far to say that Vortigern protects those who cannot protect themselves; whilst they may claim it is our of benevolent courtesy, the Vampyre knows that the are preyed upon by the strong, and their survival is nothing more than a convenient happenstance of circumstance.

And so the World-Walker wandered, riding through the aetheric energies of time and space in search of new sport.

His coming to Cevanti had not been a gentle one.

The world had fought against his coming. Pushed against him with every iota of its power, stripping him of his powers, weakening him and casting aside his arms and armour. But still he persisted, breaking through a wound in reality.

The King in Red was here. And his thirst must be quenched.

Abilities/Skills:

Vampyre:
Belonging to his ascension through blood, Vortigern possesses a number of natural enhancements. However, his travelling to Cevanti has significantly dulled his powers, and being blood-starved has only served to increase his withering.

Potency [475]
Effect: Damage [Rank 5, 500]
Modifiers: Ongoing [100], Weakness: Sunlight [Rank 5, -125]

Blood boils, coursing through the veins like a venom. Musculature tigthens, and inhuman strength is borne within him. Though little more than a shadow of what he once was; Vortigern is nontheless... potent. Capable of tossing a man like a child with a doll, he still possesses a strength far beyond the ken of mortal reckoning. As is his curse, this strength wanes when brought into the light of the Sun.

Celerity [675]
Effect: Agility [Rank 5, 800]
Modifiers: Ongoing [100], Weakness: Sunlight [Rank 5, -125]

Granted an otherworldly grace by his lineage, the Blood-Knight seems to 'dance' through the battlefield with a near belligerent disregard for the spastic movements of his foes. Catching thrown projectiles and sending them back to their owner come as easily as breathing for the Vampyre. Yet when caught by the Sun's rays, his movement becomes slow, as though mired in a thick molasis.

Regeneration [500]
Effect: Healing [Rank 5, 1000]
Modifiers: Activation [Rank 5, -250], Concentration [Rank 5, -250]

His entering into the world of Cevanti was wrought with damage. A great deal of time was spent reknitting bones and sewing flesh. Coupled with his blood-starved state, what was once a near-invulnerability to any form of grevious injury has slowed to the mending of more mundane wounds. Uniquely, this ability is unaffected by the Sun.

Preysight [275]
Effect: Sense [Rank 5, 500]
Modifiers: Activation [-100], Weakness: Sunlight [Rank 5, -125]

Preysight. He need but think or speak the words for his senses to become as they were. The beating of a heart betrays it's owners position. Little more than a whispered breath is like the crashing of waves to him. And the flowing of blood like the cacophony of a waterfall. Yet when blasted by celestial rays, he becomes confused, dazed and without perception.
