I know it probably doesn't seem like it, but I try to put a lot of thought into who I'm going to choose. (Maybe that's the problem?) So I'm thinking who will be my third. I've got a shortlist of four characters, help me choose won't you? Since TMNT are good guys and Orion is in the middle, my third will be a bad guy.
In no particular order:
1) Emperor Kolith (OC)
An emperor of the Eternal Empire, a long since forgotten time in Erde Nona's history, Kolith was a powerful and nigh-unstoppable ruler. His powers of invoking, a way of warping reality in ways that benefited him, gave him few challenges on his path to conquest. Eventually killed by an unknown event, Kolith is resurrected thousands (hundreds of thousands?) of years later, his memory of his past life largely a blur. When he regains his identity and sees the child king on the throne of Erde Nona, he decides to bring his iron-fisted rule back.
This guy is cool to me because invoking, his pseudo-magic powerset, lets me do whatever I feel like. He can summon weapons, throw fireballs, raise up the ground, fly, became incorporeal, use telekinesis, whatever. Plus he's a bad guy but with a code of living - he has earnest beliefs that guide him, like his superiority over other people, and that they need his guidance in order to flourish. Conquering is really his way of showing he cares for others.
This would let me use the Minions system in a more connected way than Orion or the TMNT, with the end goal of trying to conquer Erde Nona's kingdom (I'm thinking like how I as Illidan tried to take Darkshire back on the OV, for those of you who remember that). That'd be so much fun.
2) Gengar (Pokemon Canon/OC)
The only Pokemon I would want to roleplay outside of Mewtwo (or maybe Bulbasaur), Gengar in this instance is the Gengar used by Agatha of the Elite Four in Pokemon Red/Blue/Yellow. After her death, Gengar is released from his pokeball and free to wander the world. His kind are able to jump through dimensions, so he does and ends up in the Crossroads, ready to spread mischief wherever he goes.
Gengar's moveset is quite cool, and I envision his personality being a cross of the Joker (with less murders) and Genie from Aladdin. So he'd be scaring people for his own personal enjoyment while still acting like a goofball. He would be the least restrictive of my choices, in that I don't really have a plan for him right away, and his character lends himself to going wherever the wind takes him, which would make him great for staff events and co-op writing. However that lack of direction might make me bored or overwhelmed and end up wanting to switch again.
3) The Man of Nightmares (OC)
The Man of Nightmares is a whispered legend on Cevanti. Some say he is a great crime lord, his network vast and devious. Others believe him to be a shadowy assassin, murdering any target for the right price. There is even a story that says he is an undead wraith, returned from the afterlife to wreak vengeance on those who wronged him. Perhaps there’s some truth to these rumours. Or perhaps they are all lies, and The Man of Nightmares is much more complex…
TMoN is a shadowy figure. His powers are largely psychic and illusory - he can block gunshots with his mind as well as attack with psychic energy with a simple thought. His name though is derived by how he kills, and the stories of those who survive. He uses illusions to terrify his victims. Things like swarms of bees, wounds that suddenly open up on the victim's skin, the ground giving way beneath someone tied and bound, unshakable rats gnawing on their body... his MO is to terrify his targets before killing them (or letting them go to send a message). This seems like a lot of fun - I normally like the direct confrontational combat but TMoN is largely based around scaring and demoralising his opponent. Being a mysterious underground figure, I could write a lot of cool stories about people trying to catch him, and the stories of him hunting his victims.
He could also have a network of criminals working for him, letting me use that Minions angle again. However I'm afraid he might be hard to write in staff events or co-op. His reputation and allure stem largely from his anonymity, and I'm not sure how much I want to challenge that.
4. Fire Lord Ozai (Avatar Canon)
The ruler of the Fire Nation, defeated at the hands of the Avatar, finds himself whisked away to the Crossroads... and with all of his powers intact, ready to rule a new land.
There's a lot of crossover here with Kolith - both have similar personalities, both bent on ruling, and largely devoid of relationships. I can also build up a Fire Nation army to invade with using Minions. I find Ozai interesting because 1) fire powers are cool, 2) his personality is hell-bent on ruling, to the point that every facet of his life is focused on it, yet he does not lack for anything, his ambitions are simple and clear to him - I've never written a character like that and it really appeals to me. Yet I could use a lot of this with Kolith while having more freedom as an OC. Still I find myself interested in Ozai.
