King Ghidorah

Source: The Godzilla films (elements pulled from both the classic and monsterverse versions, as well as some related comics, with a certain amount of creative license thrown in)

Starting Location: Inverxe

Affinity I: Specialized (Ongoing)
Affinity II: Formidable

King Ghidorah is an Aesthete and a Destoyer: first and foremost, a narcissist, a psychopath, and a nihilist. He firmly believes that he is the single most perfect and worthy example of thinking life that has ever existed, the ultimate apex creature. He knows in the depths of his hollow soul that everything and everyone else is more or less there for his enjoyment - either as food, slaves, or fodder for his destructive muse, and he treats them as such. He's obsessed with bringing ruin and despair, addicted to the thrill of kicking over a sand-castle, and like more mundane addictions, he's constantly seeking to outdo his last fix . In fact, in his own mind he's elevated it to an art-form, an aesthetic consideration as much as a physical one. While he doesn't go around simply trying to kill everyone he meets and burn everything he sees, that is always his goal in the end, and any forbearance, restraint, or courtesy on his part is always paper-thin and usually in service of either destroying something or someone specific or more deeply appreciating the things he will one day remove from the world. Even when he is not killing, Ghidorah is never polite. He is insulting, demeaning, grandiose in word and deed, and quick to anger. He frequently breaks things, both for his own gratification and to make sure everyone around him knows who is in charge.

Not all of Ghidorah's qualities would be necessarily negative if they weren't attached to him specifically. He is curious in the extreme, a component of his particular aesthetic yen, and will demand information about anyone or anything with which he isn't familiar. He possesses a certain rudimentary caution around creatures in whom he recognizes power or violence akin to that of those few who have bested him in the past. Around such beings his arrogance and disdain become more subdued, although they never disappear entirely. He is aware of (and disgusted by) the fact that he is not as invincible as he would like, and the only thing preventing him from being a complete coward as a result is his unforgiving pride - qualities which frequently clash when he is in genuine danger. Finally, Ghidorah is very cunning. He possess a fine eye for detail, both when observing the behaviour of others and when examining objects, structures or vistas, a consequence of long experience reading into the aesthetic significance of the peoples and worlds he has ruined.

Note about Ghidorah and hands: This version of Ghidorah has had many forms over the eons, but only rarely has he had hands. Although he finds their form somewhat offputting, he can't deny the utility, and still finds them mildly fascinating.

Note about language: Almost as much as destruction, Ghidorah loves language. He didn't always have it, and the way it gives shape to his thoughts and reflects the nature of the world is a source of fascination for him almost on par with his love of wrack and ruin. As such, he is extremely verbose. Ghidorah 'speaks' telepathically, even to people who are standing in the same room - He lacks the physical apparatus for complex vocal communication

Physical Description
This form of King Ghidorah is partially humanoid, with no wings, no tails as of recent developments a single golden tail as long as his entire body, and functional arms. He stands upright, seven-and-a-half feet tall, sexless, and covered head to toe in overlapping golden scales. The individual scales are larger on his chest and thighs, almost suggesting a scale-mail breastplate and greaves, but shrink to a supple fineness almost akin to leather on the hands, feet and face. He possess three heads, after a fashion. Two of them are fused with his shoulders, oriented laterally, giving the impression of pauldrons: these are draconic, reptilian, with heavy brows above cruel, serpentine muzzles, crowned with thickets of twisted bronze horns and fine golden hair. The eyes are closed, and do not open. His central head is larger, with with a shorter muzzle, no hair to speak of, and larger horns. It sits atop a neck somewhat longer than a man's, though not quite qualifying as serpentine. His eyes are deep, crimson red. Ghidorah stands and walks digitigrade, with powerful thighs and defined calves ending in three-toed feet more reminiscent of those of a bird of prey than a man, creating the impression he is always stalking something. He does not wear clothing if he can at all help it.

History
Ghidorah is very, very old, born shortly after the beginning of his universe, before the laws of physics as we know them were entirely set. As the three-headed, golden-winged terror of the space-ways, destroyer of worlds, he ravaged his native cosmos for billions of years in the form of the colossal lightning-spewing dragon with which are all familiar. As such, although for much of his existence he has stood unchallenged as the most fearsome thing in the Milky Way galaxy, he has had trials as well as triumphs. At his best, he is responsible for boiling Venus, and the advanced civilization that lived there, and obliterating their martian outposts. He has smashed solar empires beneath his mighty stomping feet and gone through many bizarre changes, taking on different monstrous form and sometimes dominating the minds of lesser creatures. At his worst, he has been repeatedly mind-controlled himself by spacefaring civilizations seeking to exploit his power. He has been cast down in defeat, humbled by Mothra, vaporized by Godzilla such that only a few scraps of flesh remained. But Ghidorah has always risen again, a cosmic storm on wings of gold rolling in from the galactic rim, driving all lesser creatures before him.

However, at some point, something finally managed to kill him properly. He does not recall what. He does not recall how, or where. But the fact is evident by how he came to the Crossroads: arisen in a shrunken and larval form from a pool of golden blood half-clotted and dripping from a set of monstrous, mummified jaws. Looming above the comparatively insignificant frame he now called his own, half-embedded as though by some long-ago impact in the stone wall of a cave below the surface of Inverxe, the first thing he saw was a desiccated, three-headed corpse, a dragon the size of a mountain, with strips of glorious golden hide hanging like banners from its bones.

1). A Crisis of Aesthetics and Pride
Ghidorah contemplates his situation, only to have his former self's tomb discovered by a mineralogical survey team. He attacks them, leaving only one alive, whom he forces to assist him in escaping the caverns beneath Inverxe. An ambush is attempted and failed, leaving Ghidorah gravely injured, and an entire mining settlement is over-run by xenomorphs as a result. Jewels, the lone surviving surveyor, recalls something she cannot explain.
A Collision of Savage Opposites
Ghidorah emerges into Fortress-Polity 428A, only to find it overrun with Xenomorphs. After battling several of them and apprehending the numbers he is facing, he resolves to escape, only for his shuttlecraft to crash-land. Raph, a lawyer for Kaalakiota Corp., rapidly loses control of his assignment. Mabel, the best autopilot in the universe, is introduced.

Indictment of a Hollow Garden ( Ghidorah vs the Unmaking part I )
Ghidorah emerges form the wreckage of a transport shuttle, and senses something something offensively bland. Pursuing that sensation, he discovers a lush patch of forest wherein everything has been stripped of some fundamental aspect of its nature and infused with an ontological 'sameness'. This offends Ghidorah's aesthetic sensibilities, and after a confrontation with a mind-flayer serving as a sort-of priest for the force responsible (a thing called 'Darkseid) and his followers, during which Ghidorah confirms the he derives neither satisfaction nor insight from destroying things subject to this 'Anti-Life', he burns the place to the ground. Deciding he cannot allow this sort of thing to continue, for the sake of his offended aesthetic sensibilites and the future of his favorite pursuits, he resolves to see find and destroy the source of Darkseid's corruption.

For that Corporate Dime
Jewels awakens on the Hub, traumatized by her recent experiences. She is convinced by Raph Hannigan to sell her stake in the mineral-rights claim on the Tomb of Monster Zero, and subsequently contracted to assist in a dangerous repair mission in the depths of the station. Though successful, the mission does not go well.

Against a Screaming Planet
The corrupted Arbiter of Inverxe has noticed Ghidorah, and the geology of the moon itself turns against him. After a considerable amount of discomfort, he manages to get out from under Rose Quartz's baleful unseen eye, venturing deeper still into the crust of the planet.

Abilities/Skills

King Ghidorah's burgeoning cosmic fires have recovered to the point where he can at last recall a shadow of his former glory. As the millennium dragon, Ghidorah is 12 stories tall. He possesses a powerful, sinuous tail as long as his entire body which forks about 4/5 of the way along its length, ending in a pair of spiked clubs. He has no arms, and instead possesses golden wings, chiropteran but undeveloped, with a non-functional 'thumb' joint; they seem like they are slightly too small, proportionally, but he is still capable of flight at slightly below jet-airplane speeds. His body is covered in large, bronze scales reminiscent of armor plating, especially around the chest and thighs. Fang-like bone spikes line the vertebrae of his three serpentine necks, joining into a single row down his back and proceeding along his tail. His powerful legs have conical armored spurs on the knee-joint, and end in three-toed digitigrade feet, like those of a therapod dinosaur. His trio of terrible faces, while as distinctly reptilian as the rest of him, are almost lupine in shape, ringed by horns and bony protrusions, sporting cackling muzzles filled with double-rows of serrated teeth, and covered in knobbly, armored hide .

In this titanic form, Ghidorah's golden wings allow him to fly at hundreds of miles an hour. The wings themselves do not propel him as such, but rather provide a psychological focus for the cosmic forces at his command. It is these forces that are the true source of Ghidorah's mastery of the skies.

As the Millennium Dragon, Ghidorah is capable of spitting explosive bolts of cosmic fire the size of train-cars, trailing a comet-tail of crimson-lightning. These purplish-red plasma-bolts possess a flickering core of golden electricity and explode on impact, detonating with enough force to completely gut a four-story building.

Ghidorah's body is not made out of conventional biomaterials. His scales are super-hardened, his bones moreso, and his flesh is like steel; even diminished he is very difficult to injure. Further, his physiology is fueled by the electro-gravitic echoes of a galactic superstorm. As such, he can endure far greater hardships than a normal creature. In a very literal sense he is his cosmic power source - mass built directly from energy, the resulting biological construct unbound by concerns for such petty things as caloric deficit or dehydration, oxygen or sleep, immune to environmental extremes and operating at a metabolic pitch nigh-unheard of in lesser creatures. Thus he is constantly being reconstructed, granting him a supernatural rate of recovery.

Ghidorah possesses tremendous strength, capable of tearing through steel plate like paper - or crashing through almost any structure lacking a steel skeleton when in titanic form. The cosmic catastrophe within that once burned worlds and propelled him between the stars is rising again in the depths of his soul, occasionally crackling in golden arcs across his hide, granting him physical power far out of step with his diminished form.

Ghidorah's speed and reaction time are nothing short of devastating, no matter what his shape or size. He possesses supernatural precision and grace in the control and use of his body, and can perceive and react to events so quick that lesser creatures would not have noticed them at all, serpentine in his suddenness of action. His tectonic grip-strength and affinity for gravitational forces allows him, in his reduced form, to clamber and cling to sheer surfaces and even ceilings with ease, and even in the absence of his wings, his tremendously powerful legs enable him to make great leaps through the air.

Ghidorah is able to unleash the astral chaos at the core of his being in the form of pseudo-electric 'gravity beams', which he can fire from his mouth or either hand. These bolts of destructive force are lethal, easily capable of smashing stone apart or burning through steel plating - provided they actually hit his target, which is a 50/50 proposition at best. Ghidorah is accustomed to having two additional pairs of eyes with which to aim, and his lightning has a tendency to arc and jump, twisting in ways that are not necessarily conducive to hitting their intended mark. This is somewhat compensated for by Ghidorah's sheer rate of fire; If he wants to he can even generate continuous discharges, sweeping the landscape before him with arcs of destructive power. In his kaiju form, this ability is replaced by grander manifestations of his destructive power.

King Ghidorah's higher telepathic abilities have begun to reawaken. His cosmic consciousness is capable of engaging with many of the various kinds of raw information which pass unseen through the void, from radio-waves to the thoughts of other creatures,. He can both send and receive, allowing complex communication across vast distances.

Communication Rank 1 - Telepathy (100)

Ghidorah's astral furnace casts a light within the nebulous spaces beneath normal reality, and its reflected brilliance provides positional, quantitative and qualitative information about any lesser flames-of-life within its radius of illumination. It's almost like a sense of taste, but with a spatial-positional component, and allows Ghidorah to judge the nature and potency of the creatures he encounters.

Ghidorah possesses very keen and deceptively broad eyesight, able perceive his surroundings in minute and precise detail and to conduct a cogent analysis of what he sees. He is a practiced admirer of the composition of the universe, from the very great to the very small, and as such has a very highly developed sense of the interconnectedness of things. He is an expert in aesthetic composition and structure, especially as it pertains to complex systems such as societies or planets - although as he is currently lacking two sets of eyes and several other senses, he is not able to exercise his powers of observation and analysis to their fullest extent.

Senses: (Vision) Rank 6 (600)

Master Skill: Knowledge (Aesthetic/Artistic Composition) Rank 6 (300)
Total cost: 900

Ghidorah lives for only one thing: to bring ruin to that which is elegant, beautiful and worthwhile. Over eons of pursuing this goal he has acquired vast experience in the particulars, the results, and the practice of destruction in all its forms, from the personal to the abstract. He has learned to apply this knowledge in the most direct and forceful of ways when it comes to fighting an opponent or opponents in personal combat, and he has even, by careful observation of the methods that have been used to try to stop him, acquired a certain facility with military strategy, particularly when it comes to overwhelming defenses and breaking blockades. At his current size and power-level not all of this knowledge translates directly, but he remains a truly malign force.

Items
King Ghidorah has no concern for wealth or material possessions. There is, however, a narrow range of objects which he is not above using to further his own ends.

A sinister vantablack marble, no larger than a human eye. It is wreathed in a corona of subtle and shifting golden light. This item cannot be touched directly – rather, any attempt to do so will meet resistance, as though encountering a surface both glassy and cold some several centimeters from the boundary of its visible edges. It can, however, be manipulated through contact with this invisible boundary and, with a minor act of will, claimed - at which point it will take up a position directly above the owner’s forehead, where it will float at a fixed distance until called upon.

When activated - an act of will - the Eye is consumed, vanishing in a flash of black and gold, at which point the user rapidly transforms. The specifics of the process may vary – but it is always extremely rapid, and the end result is the embodiment, however temporary, of a significant fraction of the true power of King Ghidorah: the form, if not the full world-ending force, of Monster Zero.

A glorious body of gleaming gold, five hundred feet tall.

Three draconic heads, with powerful fanged muzzles and heavy brows crowned by twisted and backswept horns, carried upon proud serpentine necks as wide as New York subway tunnels and as long as the rest of the entire body (a little over 250 feet)).
A powerful and expansive chest, swathed in golden scales.

Two digitigrade legs ending in mighty stomping feet, raptor-like talons capable of flattening houses or tanks with equal ease or tearing into titanic prey like colossal knives.

Two terrible, sinuous tails.

And finally, chiropteran wings, fit to cast lesser skyscrapers into shadow: leathery golden skin stretched taut between a trio of flared and jointed trestles emerging from the lower spine merge seamlessly with an arm/hand arrangement wherein the ‘arm’ forms the leading edge of the proximal wing and featuring massively distended and multi-jointed ‘fingers’ supporting membranes adapted for flight. These appendages are massive, each one nearly the length of the main body when fully extended for display or airborne maneuvering. They are capable of complex folding, allowing limited grasping by virtue of (relatively) tiny claws located at the ‘wrist’ joints as well as folded-wing knuckle-walking in the manner of a bat.

Even as a mere phantom of bygone glory, the power thus obtained is obscene.
The user becomes deceptively fast, capable of flowing across the landscape like a living riptide of scales and sinew or flying gracefully through the air at supersonic speed.

They become strong enough to tear through the hull of a battleship as though it were paper, or rip the steel skeleton of a skyscraper to shreds in seconds.

The original Monster Zero’s golden body was much harder than steel, flesh and bone impossibly durable, and mundane weapons such as bullets, bombs and even all-out strategic nuclear assault were useless against it: even this comparatively-fragile and impermanent simulacrum of the beast possesses absurd resistance to conventional attack, and it would not be outside the realm of possibility for a user of the Eye to limp away, wounded but living, from a ground-zero tactical atomic strike.

Most dangerous of all, however, the user gains temporarily unlimited access to Ghidorah’s golden lightning, the crackling fury of the early universe given form. These king-size bolts of electro-gravitic astral chaos, wide enough to engulf a column of main battle-tanks or rip the guts out of a two-lane highway, are functionally unlimited in range and capable of shearing through steel beams like a chainsaw through a pile of cotton-candy. Contact with anything substantial results in a violent detonation, subjecting everything within one-hundred feet to intense heat, overwhelming shock, and massive tidal stress. These bolts may be fired from any of Monster Zero’s three mouths, whether in brief bursts, focused in a continuous arc upon a resistant target for maximum attrition, or raked across the landscape, carving great blasted swaths of devastation.

Fortunately, the conduit which the Eye forms with the sealed depths of King Ghidorah’s astral well is unstable, and does not last for long. Such power is addictive – and by nature devours everything around it.

NPCs
King Ghidorah doesn't make or want friends. Under normal circumstances he doesn't even form alliances, though exceptions have been known to occur. Enemies, however, he makes like a craftsman, and he tends to draw attention wherever he goes. Here, we find a few interested parties.

Name: Jewels (no last name)
Threads: A Crisis of Aesthetics and Pride, For that Corporate Dime
Gender: Female
Age: ~ 25
Homeworld: Cevanti (Later Inverxe)
Demeanor: Wounded Survivor

Jewels is clever, brave, and quick on her feet, able to take in the reality of an unexpected situation and react appropriately. She is a tactical operator skilled in wilderness survival in arctic and subterranean environments (and jungle environments less so) and when confronted with a crisis will rapidly assemble a list of mental tasks in order to get herself through it. She can walk the walk and talk the talk, and has a penchant for elaborate and humorous turns of phrase. She is also deeply, deeply traumatized by her recent experiences: prone to panic attacks, crying jags and flashbacks, up to and including olfactory, visual and auditory hallucinations. She misses her partners deeply, and they are frequently in her thoughts. Jewels copes using a combination of short-term task-based goal-setting (an extension of the mental discipline routine she developed as a survival tool when under stress), doing her best to never slow down long enough to really confront her trauma, and mood-regulating pharmaceuticals. Formerly up-front and boisterous, she is now somewhat cold in the presence of new people, not yet actively pushing people away but also unwilling to let them in.

On the whole, Jewels is an exceptionally capable person who is also a bundle of nerves, frequently right on the edge of falling apart but determined to succeed regardless. This pattern of behavior isn't sustainable, and part of her knows that, but she's going to keep running towards one goal or another for as long as she can.

History
Born and raised on Cevanti, in a ruined slum outside of Markov, Jewels grew up rough. She learned to shoot as a child, and as a teenager she experimented with drugs and petty theft - culminating in a hallucinatory oddyssey the week of her 16th birthday that saw her disappear into the jungle for nearly a week. During this time she presumably stumbled into a ruin of some kind, because her clearest recollection from the event is a fuzzy still-frame of Ghidorah in his prime attacking a shining city and a voice reciting a fractured database entry - an experience that, while strange, wouldn't mean anything specific to her until years later.

Jewels eventually came to Inverxe, where she almost immediately became romantically involved with two men named Flipper and Krade. The three of them formed a team of geological surveyors, part of a class of subterranean prospectors with a short life-expectancy. Defying the odds over a several-year career they accrued expertise in caving, first-aid, survival, tactics, heavy weaponry, improvised maintenance, computer and communications systems and advanced geological survey equipment. In spite of the harsh world on which they sought their collective fortune, the three of them were quite happy. That all ended when, long with her partners (in both the romantic and professional sense), Jewels ventured into an isolated cave-system in pursuit of a deposit of exotic, highly energetic ores - and encountered King Ghidorah. Only Jewels survived; left behind in the caves, unable to leave due to the destruction of her employer's teleport-receiving platform. Believing herself likely doomed and determined to at least find out what for, she ventured once more into the depths of the cave-system, finally collapsing before the entombed body of Monster Zero.

This was not however the end of Jewel's story. She was retrieved by a prospecting team in Kaalakiota Corp's employ, treated for her injuries and medicated for her trauma - and paid handsomely in return for legally surrendering the mineral rights to the Tomb of Monster Zero. She was subsequently contracted to assist in a critical repair in a section of Kaalakiota's damaged mega-space-station, the Hub. Venturing down into engineering levels over-run by by the Unmade, through her efforts power was successfully restored to the station's internal and external automatic defenses - and Jewels was again the only survivor of a team of three. She is now determined to return to Cevanti, to chase a teenage memory of a broken voice and a golden monster and maybe get some context for what has happened to her life.

The Periphery
And then there are the people who are blissfully unaware of Ghidorah, or even anyone who knows him. They're just doing their own stuff, largely if not entirely removed from this terrible drama. Some of them are here too

Name: Rory
Events: Death Game Season 3
Gender: Yes (He/him)
Age: ?
Homeworld: An office in a shipping crate on the back of a 1992 Ford Pinto with the engine running.
Demeanor: Everyone's best friend
Chaos Agent Rory (formerly Special Liaison Gregory) is a penguin. A King Penguin, specifically, although he has been other sorts of penguin, or penguin-type creature. He's mutable like that. But at the moment he's a little bit shy of one meter tall, with a narrow pointed bill, orange, comma-shaped splotches on the sides of his neck and a hint of sunrise yellow at the top of his stark white belly. The grey plumage on his back has a bluish tint, and his eyes are just slightly wrong, slit-pupiled like a cat instead of round like most penguins. Also, his flippers conceal tiny cilia and short tentacles that allow him to grip and manipulate objects with a shocking degree of dexterity, as well as a lockable opposable joint. Wherever it is he comes from, it probably ain't Antarctica.

Rory adresses everyone, regardless of gender, as D00d, or sometimes Mang. He is aggressively personable, and is constantly trying to talk people around to joining him in minor - or not-so minor - business ventures, to do him small favours, or just to tell him about themselves. He's pretty good at it. He makes big promises, tells fun stories, and genuinely doesn't seem to realize that he is, in fact, a predator. The corollary to this is that he's very eager to do people favours - a trait that conceals a disturbing willingness and ability to betray sacred trusts and then rationalize it so that he's not the bad guy.
But he is. He is the bad guy, and he, eventually, ruins almost everything he touches.
