Overview/Notable Features (top)

Upon approach, Kraw’s appearance is modest. The greenest planet in the core Worlds, it suggests an overflow of life, but for many travellers, it spells the exact opposite. Kraw is a land of wild beasts and untamed monsters, and whispers of civilizations long past that could not stand against the planet’s neverending search for food.

As such, it’s become a sparsely populated planet, mostly filled with those searching for adventure or looking to engage in a dangerous hunt. Small encampments of hunters and scavengers, either looking to turn predator into prey or explore the world’s mysterious ruins, pop up throughout the jungle, satellites of New Abraxas. Across the planet, you'll also find aging remnants of older civilizations, but whoever these older cultures may have been, they no longer exist ... just more victims in a long line of them.

Do you have what it takes to survive the ever-growing appetite of Kraw?

Terrain/Climate (top)

Kraw is, essentially, a small planet-sized jungle. Most of the planet is covered in an endless forest climate, incredibly humid, with rivers cutting through the greenery every once in a while. The humidity is widespread, with even underground caverns having high levels of humidity. Lakes pop up, but there are few large bodies of water across the world. The few small Settlements that have popped up, including New Abraxas, have done so in a variety of small ruins once buried by the flora and fauna. These ruins suggest civilizations that dotted the landscape long ago, before the planet became untamed.

But in the forest, you are safe from nothing. Disease is a common threat, but the more pressing threat you will face is immediate and sudden death at the hands of some creature's claws or giant, gnashing jaws. Few species will spare you if they come across you in a moment of hunger, and rumors from the locals say that the planet itself needs to consume life-forms to survive, and that’s what spelled the end of civilizations long ago. In the jungle, the mighty jungle, the lions don’t sleep. In the jungle, nobody is safe. In the jungle, an innocent daisy or a treasure chest might flash its teeth at you as quickly as a tyrannosaurus rex.

Wildlife (top)

Kraw is quite literally alive with all walks of predators, from cunning feline huntresses to venomous spiders the size of small vehicles. Massive snakes and vicious, overgrown arthropods lurk in many of the dark corners of his fetid, dangerous world. The only place where you are unlikely to find something that immediately wants to kill you is in the world's lakes and rivers, where many of the fish are just that... fish. This isn't to say you should take a nap in the water, because this is still Kraw.

On top of these more traditional predators and larger versions of familiar species, Kraw is home to even more horrifying and fantastical monsters. Velociraptors, tyrannosaurus rex, and other mysteriously genetically altered dinosaurs sweep through the underbrush, hunting for prey. Small dragons and lumbering rancors jockey for survival. And, working for the planet’s “best interest,” the flora and fauna themselves have adapted to become dangerous predators, like the Devil’s Snare, ensnaring an unlucky traveler to help feed Kraw’s unending hunger. Plants may look pleasant only to be viciously poisonous, and those that aren't poisonous are often carnivorous.

Trust. Nothing.

Kraw is never satiated.

World Quests
(Quests below, unless marked ‘Y’, can only be done once per character)

“Like No One Ever Was”
Quest Giver: Local Gossip
Quest Length: 2,500+ words
Quest Location: Kraw
Quest Prerequisites: None
Quest Description:

New Abraxas is a community of hunters, all looking to best one another in their craft. The University of Abraxas has a training course for hunters that some like to frequent to… prove they’re the very best.

An archery range, an obstacle course, a gun range, an off-road vehicle track… the possibilities are endless to show off your skills, so take your pick and make your mark.

Repeatable? Y

“Call of the Wild”
Quest Giver: Assistant to Newt Scamander
Quest Length: 5,000+ words
Quest Location: Kraw
Quest Prerequisites: Complete ‘Like No One Ever Was’
Quest Description:

Newt Scamander is often holed up in his menagerie, caring personally for the various species he collects. He doesn’t often see visitors personally, but some of his loyal assistants will often try and coerce hunters and adventurers into more… pacifistic pursuit of the planet’s wildlife.

While walking through New Abraxas, you’re approached by one of these assistants. They’ve seen you walking around and they think you look like just the type of person they need to nab -- safely, without killing it -- a specimen of a local species Newt has been looking to try and study more closely. They give you a map to recent places outside New Abraxas’ walls where it was spotted and send you off on a more gentle version of the local hunt.

If you can successfully capture this beast and bring it back to this assistant, they can reward you, though you may find a greater reward killing it and selling it to the merchants in town…

(Staff note: feel free to pick your own creature based off the guidelines in the Kraw info documents, or contact a staff member for suggestions if you’re unsure!)

Repeatable? Y

“Hunter Killer”
Quest Giver: Member of Leliana’s Assassin Guild
Quest Length: 15,000+ words
Quest Location: Kraw
Quest Prerequisites: Complete ‘Like No One Ever Was’
Quest Description:

The University of Abraxas has seen your talents and sees your use. Though you may not yet be worthy of an audience with Leliana or Indiana themselves, your skills have earned you a spot in the next ‘boot camp’ course, where you’ll learn the ins and outs of being a hunter on Kraw and earning your keep in New Abraxas.

Will you be able to keep up with your class and earn your certificate of completion and, therefore, your Hunting License? Well, that depends on how you deal with the physical challenges placed in front of you -- and how well you succeed at the actual hunt you’re thrown into at the end.

Repeatable? N

“Mark of the Seeker”
Quest Giver: One of the Matriarchs of the Nora
Quest Length: 5,000 words
Quest Location: Kraw
Quest Prerequisites: None
Quest Description:

The Nora have come out of hiding.

Spurred to action by the encroaching hunters of New Abraxas, a tribe of isolationists known as the Nora have made themselves known in the wilds of Kraw, threatening to exact violence on anyone who threatens their tribe, their way of life, or the planet they hold so dear.

However, the Nora do not have the militaristic resources they once did, so they have resorted to searching for sympathetic adventurers or particularly skilled members of their tribe to join the efforts. Complete a series of trials – specifically the killing of one of the many machines that have begun to infest the jungles – and bring a trophy back to the settlement of Mother’s Heart.

Repeatable: N

“Face to Face”
Quest Giver: Assistant to Indiana Jones
Quest Length: 5,000+ words
Quest Location: Kraw
Quest Prerequisites: None
Quest Description:

While staying in New Abraxas, you overhear a junior researcher—a totally indirect assistant to Indiana Jones himself!—lamenting the fact that they cannot brave the realm of a mysterious entity known as Koh the Face Stealer. After talking with this assistant and doing a little digging of your own, you discover that Koh is a malevolent spirit living in a gloomy swamp somewhere in Kraw’s jungle and that everyone wants to find some way to converse with him. Unfortunately, Koh isn’t the most friendly host and has an unfortunate habit of stealing people’s faces when they show emotion around him. His lair is also incredibly perilous to traverse due to its tenuous connection to the Medium, and many never return.

Despite the risk, you agree to accompany this researcher on their quest to speak with Koh. You may encounter various challenges along the way, from ravenous beasts to bands of rough-and-tumble poachers… whatever trials you can come up with. Eventually, your researcher guide leads you to Koh’s swamp, but insists that you go in, alone, to ask Koh a few questions. Oh boy.

(Staff Note: Completing this quest will require direct staff involvement to provide whatever deep Crossroads lore your character and the researcher desires. If your attempt to wheedle information out of Koh is a success, a staff member will provide a few lines of dialogue for whatever Koh tells your character, which can be incorporated into your quest.)

Unique and/or One-Time World Quests
(Once these quests are claimed and finished, they’ll vanish forever)

“Rathian Rising”
Quest Giver: Lysandra Lynx
Quest Length: 20,000+ Words
Quest Location: Kraw
Quest Prerequisites: Complete ‘Like No One Ever Was’ and, if you don’t want the University/Leliana’s assassins on your back, ‘Hunter Killer’; two or more players recommended, but not required
Quest Description:

Local gossip has stirred up once again about one of the most ferocious creatures to walk the dense, green jungles of Kraw: the Rathian. A gargantuan, yellowish green-colored dragon, this beast dwells in some of Kraw’s darker depths and for some time now has laid dormant, choosing not to bother those who might venture out into the wilds.

But its nest has been disturbed by a group of hunters who thought themselves up to the challenge of bringing it in. Only one of these hunters -- Lysandra Lynx -- survived the onslaught of the beast, returning to New Abraxas broken and without her team. She seeks someone, more capable than she or her fallen fellows, to exact vengeance on the beast and finally end its reign of terror in the jungles once and for all.

Little does Lysandra -- or you, our heroes -- know, the Rathian’s fury has been awakened because she is about to be a mother, and is protecting her eggs. Do you have what it takes to rob these eggs of their mother and take the ultimate prize?

Repeatable? N

Specialized Quest Reward: Should you choose to kill the Rathian, you will find that one of its eggs (a Relic of unknown Abilities and Effects) is salvageable. Only one quest-goer can receive the egg, to be decided by the staff judge. If ‘Hunter Killer’ is not completed, there may be additional obstacles to getting this reward…

“Temple Run-making”
Quest Giver: Newt Scamander
Quest Length: 5,000 words / 7,500 words w/ Bonus Prompt
Quest Location: Kraw
Quest Prerequisites: Complete two Unmaking quests from the original questline, ‘Call of the Wild’ for Bonus Prompt
Quest Description:

Despite a general lack of interest from the hunters of Kraw, the unmade presence has not grown particularly viable on the hungry planet. This hasn’t stopped Newt Scamander from worrying incessantly over the rumors he’s been hearing from other Worlds, though, so the magizoologists wants to explore a theory. He’s hired you to delve deep into Kraw’s jungles into one of the many ruins scattered throughout, and explore for any signs of the Unmaking. You’ll discover there a squad of what appear to be unmade people, almost zombies, doing whatever they can to keep you out of the ruins proper. Rid the jungle of them.

Bonus Prompt: For someone especially trusted, Mr. Scamander will impart a key one of his associates found while scouting around the ruins. He believes that, after the unmade zombies guarding it have been killed, the key will allow you further inside the temple proper. What awaits down there? Who knows…

Repeatable: Y (Bonus Prompt: N)

Hunger is truly the most honest and admirable of mortal sensations. It is the acute, haranguing realization that existence is temporary and fragile. A reminder that to live is to simply outrun that which is Darkseid. Many of the beasts of Kraw are mighty, and swift, but in the wake of their spoor crawls the doom of mortality.

To Unmake Kraw is simply to enhance and deepen that hunger. The citizens of the crossroads, squatting amid the ruins and striving for their lives will feel my oppression more sharply, more keenly, with each passing night. I can grant them and the beasts of Kraw dark gifts of strength, a ravenous barbarism spurring them to even further depths of desperation. The fangs sharpen and the shadows grow deeper, and there, Darkseid will await them.

More of them will fall into the hunger, until the World eats itself alive...

The interference of this red-hearted warrior must be brought to a close. If not for him and the efforts of this hell-bonded newcomer, Kraw would already be within my grasp.

Without Jason Scott and his ilk, the hungering World is doomed. Perhaps I will see to their destruction personally...
