The chirp of birds in the treetops echoed throughout the jungle as small holes of light poked through to shine on the leaf ridden floor. The soft breeze was subtle against the vines and nature in itself was deceivingly calm. The tip of an arrowhead protruded from the darkness, the dim glow of yellow eyes tracking the movements of the prey in front of them. Fluffy ears twitched at every step in the mud, not only careful of the creature in front of them but any possible predator behind. The boar-like creature snarled as it stomped in the mud, becoming anxious at its surroundings, feeling a presence in the brush. It was rather large, easily half the size of a sedan.

Carved bone split the air as the notched arrow was released, hard and true as it struck the boar in its neck. A high pitched squeal rang as it swung its body around to meet its assailant. Another arrow wedged itself in its neck as the short, furry attacker dashed around the side, keeping the boar’s gaze. From the mud beneath, scaly osteoderms slithered as blue frost suddenly erupted from iridescent green-scaled hands, building upon the boar’s legs as it snarled and thrashed in confusion. The horned lizard stood over the boar, blasts of frost magic coming from each hand as it stood on two legs.

The boar stumbled and bucked, attempting in vain to shake off the ice, but in that time the fuzzy half of the duo had already begun to pounce, mounting the creature and unsheathing a tanto blade the size of her arm. She masterfully kept her balance as the boar fell on its side in the chaos, it’s bottom half numb and covered in ice, before driving the blade deep into its neck. The creature’s final squeal echoed in the trees before falling silent, its last cry forgotten as quickly as it was heard.

‘If you had waited just a moment longer, I could have easily frozen it for you.” The low, yet friendly hiss came from the muddied argonian. He stood rather tall, past six feet, though it was expected of the lizardlike folk that he hailed from. His iridescent skin lingered as mossy green, with red plumage coming out of the top of his head, along with a curved horn on each side. Ridges lined his back all the way down to his tail. He glanced at the kitsune beside him.

“Well, where would be the fun in that? I like to hit a moving target~” She coyly smiled, checking to make sure the animal held no pulse before pulling out her arrows, checking if they had any damage to them before wiping them off and setting them back in her quiver. She was much shorter than he was, standing around four and a half feet tall, with white furry ears hiding in her equally starch white long hair, with a tail to match.

“Now look, you’ve got muck all over your fur.”

“And you have muck all over your everywhere.”

The argonian chuckled, “But at least my scales dry easily in the sunlight.”

The kitsune gave a pout before pulling a bit of muck out of her hair. She usually didn’t mind it too much but it was a bit harder to ignore the annoyance in the humid marshes. She much preferred the large forests of this world instead. “Well, at the very least we have food for tonight. I would die if we didn’t have the teeth for this, I always hear that most boars are too gamey for humans and the like.”

“Well, with the right heat and spices, it would still make a great stew. Plus I can use the hooves for a bit of alchemy later tonight.” The argonian grabbed the boar and struggled for a moment to heave it over a shoulder, grunting after barely managing to do so.

“Just don’t set the house on fire again please, I barely saved my tail the last time.”

“This is why we have the well...”

The bickering continued as they headed home, the sunlight beginning to soften and dim as it approached the horizon.
