Cassius crashed into a tree as a beast swiped at him with full force, "Agh! A little help here!" he said as he grabbed a hold on hope and rolling out of the way as the beast charged, knocking down the tree.

"Well, sorry!" fae said from behind the beast, inching her way to get a swipe at it, "not all of us have magic powers to tank that kind of hit! Crap!" she said diving away as the beast turned to her for a potential meal, "What is this thing anyway?"

"Looks like a mountain lion but that tail thing is freaking me out. Speaking of which, move!" He pushed her out of the way and the beast roared before it's tail swung around and the tip opened up, shooting a black liquid and practically melting the rock behind them, "Okay, probably best to not get hit by that." Cassius tried to charge at best and jump to attack it from above but it was too quick and the tail hit him across the chest and sent him flying, "This isn't working, his too fast."

"Cass!" Fae came running to him, "are you okay? that hit seemed pretty bad."

With a wince, he got up, slowly, "Agh, I'll live but that thing is pretty strong. I can't take it alone." The beast was eyeing down the both of them, its tail was whipping around air, and the tip of it was dripping that black goo, "I have an idea but you have to distract it for a bit." He quickly dived behind a large rock, leaving Fae in front of the beast wide open.

"What?!" She quickly turned her head as the beast charged at her, causing the ground to shake, "No, No, no no no no!" She ran away before ducking down as the beast leaped over her, "Cassius!"

"Okay, hopefully this works." Cassius focused on Hope, trying to gather as much magical energy into it. The sword started to glow brightly and started shaking, almost bursting with power, "Great!" He peeked over the rock and saw Fae struggling really hard to fend of the beast, "Fae! Stand still!"

"Have you lost your marbles?!" She ducked again as the tail tried to swipe at her, "I'm going to die if I stand still."

"Just trust me!"

After dodging another attack and seeing another one coming, Fae paused in a guarded stance, putting her trust in Cassius completely. She winced as the tail was about to hit her again, thinking that it might be fatal. She was waiting for the hit to come but all she felt was hard thud before being staggered, "What?" her hands glowed with ember light and her body felt as light as feather. She turned her head and saw Cassius firing a beam of light in the same color in her direction, "Cassius!"

He let the down Hope and breathed out deeply, "Alright, now we have a chance." he was out of breathe but picked himself back up. He tried to focus his mind, "Fae, can you hear me?"

Fae then heard an echo of his voice in her head, "Cassius?" she thought of her words, "how can you talk to me?" she then started slashing at the beast and dodging the incoming attacks with relative ease but she was still barely making any damage.

"Telepathy, magic. I'll explain later. Right now, we need to find a way to defeat this thing." He readies his blade and started going at the beast with Fae but now he was slightly slower than before, "He keeps coming at us with his tail every time we charge right ahead and vice versa. I'm going to distract it while you go cut off its tail then we'll go in for the kill together."

"Okay, I'll try. On your command."

"Now!" the two started going at the beast, Cassius charged right ahead while Fae circled back quickly. He tried to slash and stab at it but the it was to strong and did barely any damage. As the beast was swiping at Cassius, Fae jumped in the air and slashed down to cut off its tail, causing the beast to writhe in pain.

"I did it!" her excitement could not be missed, "Cassius!"

"Not over yet." The beast started to regain its composure and was angrier than ever, "That buff I gave you is not going to last forever, we have to make this quick. Go!" He started going head on to the beast, "Go for its legs!" He said over their telepathic link.

"On it!" She slid past the beast as it kept fighting with Cassius, managing to cut its front left leg.

The beast started standing on its hind legs and Cassius took the opportunity to stab Hope into its belly, "AAGGHHHH" The beast then slumped over, dead, "We did..." His eyes widen and his face relaxed.

"We did it!" Fae was jumping up and down and doing flip to show her enthusiasm, "That was awesome! Cassius."

"Yeah.." He said before dropping down and face planting on the ground, "Great."

"Cass!" She quickly ran over to him and knelt down, letting his head rest on her lap, "Are you okay?"

"Yeah, just exhausted. Casting that spell took a lot out of me." The amber aura started to fade away from Fae, "And it didn't even last long, great. Can't believe I'm so out of practice." he started getting comfortable in his position, "Where did you get such a soft pillow?"

"Yeah, don't get too comfy their buster." she was about to stand up and pick Cassius up but then she saw someone running up to them, "Who's that?"

"Whoever it is, I hope their friendly." he picked himself slowly back up, "I don't know if I can take on another fight right now."

A rugged man dressed in light brown archeologist outfit with a cowboy hat and bag on his side came into view, "Great job guys." the man said as he got close to them, "I thought I had to step in when you were about to get mauled but I'm so glad I didn't. You two are quite the power couple."

Fae and Cassius looked at each other with equal amounts of confusion, "and you are?" Fae asked the man.

"Ah, you must be new to Kraw. My apologies. Dr. Henry Walton Jones at your service. I'm the professor of Abraxis University and defacto leader of new Abraxis."

A short walk later to the gate of New Abraxis and a bit of storytelling by Cassius about how they ended up in what they now know is Kraw and how Fae keep getting into some seriously cartoonish level of accidents up until the fight he just witnessed, "Hey!" Fae quickly protested, "I only got trapped in that hanging rope trap thing twice! Plus in my defense, the rope was seriously thin."

"It was a normal thread of rope, Fae." Cassius laughed and Fae gave him a pouty face.

Dr. Jones could laugh at the banter between the two youngsters, "Hah! You kids are too adorable." Fae's face seemed to blush for a moment but Cassius was just confused, "Anyway, so you're no native and you apparently have experienced traveling between dimensions before, right?"

"Yes, sir. Though the magic energy of this place is pretty different from Kelram. More abundent but less stable." He demonstrated by trying to conjure a ball of flame and the flame quickly grew uncontrollably in size before he quickly closed his hand, "Yeah, never had that problem in Kelram."

"Fascinating. Well, allow me to formally greet you to New Abraxis. The closest thing to civilization you'd find in Kram and probably the only place that you don't need to sleep in shifts if you want to stay alive." The three enter a large wooden gate with a couple of guards standing by out front, the place is a hodgepodge of repurposed ancient ruins and roughly built houses made out of wood and stone. In the center, a large temple can be seen clearly from the edge of town.

"Woah." Cassius said while his head pivots around, trying to take in all the people armed to teeth walking around and the makeshift buildings around them, "Looks like everyone is ready for a fight."

"Well, when even the plants can kill you, it is best to be prepared? Where's your girlfriend by the way?"

"Fae? No, she's not my girlfriend and she's right he--" He turned his gaze to the left, where she was, but she was gone, "What the?! Fae? Where the hell did you go?!" He yelled out in a random direction.

"Over here, numbskull." She shouted from a building near the center over of town with a blob white goo in her hand, "I found something really cute!"

The two men quickly caught up to her, "Ah, I see you found Scammander's menagerie." Dr. Jones explained, "And this little guy managed to escape his cage huh?" He petted the white goo and it turned to show its face or rather eyes before purring? shaking? jiggling in pleasure at his touch.

"Ew." Cassius reacted.

"Don't Ew it!" Fae protested, "It's cute. Just look at it!" She basically pushed the Slime into Cassius' face.

"Yeah, I don't see it." He pushed Fae's hand back, "I'm not exactly sure what it is."

"Minima Offere." Dr. Jones interrupted in, "Or small slime. It's basically a sentient blob of goo that eats tiny insects and some plants. Not really sure how it stays alive but then again magic is possibly a valid explanation."

"Can I keep him Dr. Jones?" Fae look at him with puppy dog eyes.

"Sorry, Fae but not my call to make. Scammander is the one charge of the animals around here and someone else might already own this little girl." He took the slime from her before letting it free.

"Awh, okay." She turned her head to the large temple behind her, "What is this place?"

"This is basically my office, Abraxis University." He entered the building ahead of the two, "Though you won't find undergrads and frat house anywhere near campus. This place is more for research rather than study. Now, let go to my actual office and get you some hunting licenses."

"Hunting licenses?" Cassius questioned, "What for?"

"Well, technically you're not allowed to go beyond the gates without a license but you two are new to the Crossroads, so it's understandable."

"The crossroads?" Fae asked, "What's that? I thought we were in Kraw."

"Ah right, forgot that you two were complete newcomers to this whole place." He took out a couple of forms, "Now, why don't you two fill out those forms and we'll talk about Kraw, the crossroads and any questions you might have."

Dr. Jones left for a bit while the two fill out the hunter license forms and when he got back, Fae and Cassius had a informal introduction to the multiverse that was the Crossroads.

"So, basically," Cassius commented after hearing Dr. Jones' explanation of the crossroads, "Kraw is just a small part of a larger universe? multiverse? and each one has their own rules, settlements, environment, and people different from each other? And both fantastical magic and science beyond comprehension exist in the same space."

Dr. Jones was now leaning back and in the middle of reading from a book on the research concerning the crossroads, "Yes, it's a bit more complicated than that but that is the general idea of the crossroads." He put down his book, "Sadly, you two ended up in the more dangerous and unpredictable worlds."

Fae was staring blankly at a wall, her mind still trying to make sense of everything, "So, Dr. Jones. Is there a way for us to get back home?" Her voice was low, weak. Almost pleading.

Dr. Jones answered bluntly, "Magic or High science are not my specialty but as far as I know, escaping the crossroads is unheard of." A silence fell in the room, the despair in Fae's face became distinct, "I'm sorry."

Fae was visibly shaking and stormed out the room, "Fae!" Cassius tried to call for her, "I'm sorry, Dr. Jones. Fae! Wait!" He quickly got up and started chasing after her.

"Poor kids." Indy started sipping his cup of tea, "I got a feeling that this will get worse from here."

Cassius started running down the corridors to catch up with his friend, "Wait! Fae! Come back!" She wasn't listening to him at all but he finally managed to catch up to her and ended up tackling her to the ground, "Stop!"

Fae started thrashing around and struggling to let go, "Let go of me!"

"Not until you calm down and tell me what's going on!"

"How can you be so calm about this?!" She shouted back at managed to stand back up, "We're stuck in a huge universe with things trying to kill us with no clue on how we're supposed to go back home and you're just fine?!" Tears were visibly going down her face, "I trusted that you had a plan on getting us but Dr. Jones said that going back is basically impossible to go back." The two were quiet for a moment, "I miss home, Cassius. And... I am scared. We could've died today, how many more times do we have to do this?" Her hands were shaking, she was practically breaking down in front of his eyes.

"Dozens." Cassius said with almost no emotion, "We probably would have to fight for our lives at least Dozens of time. I'm not going to sugarcoat it, this situation is very scary and unpredictable. But do I have to remind you that I survived this before?"

"But you can fight and use magic, I'm just me."

"Maybe now but then, I was still the scared, shy, and weak kid that you knew before." He stepped closer to her, "I was alone and weak, I had to see, hear, and... do a lot of bad things in order to grow stronger." he hugged her tight, "You don't have to go through any of that. I'm here and I promise we'll find a way home, somehow." Fae didn't say a word and just hugged him back and cried into his shoulder.

After a good few minutes, she finally let him go, "Feeling better now?" Cassius asked with care.

Fae sniffled, "Yeah, sorry. That freakout was... yeah."

"It's okay, this whole thing is a lot to take in. I'm not 100 percent sure if I understand the whole thing myself."

Fae wiped away some tears on her face, "So, what do we do now?"

"I am not sure but we'll figure it out. Together." He smiled at her.

She couldn't help but smile back, "It's really a nice change of pace to see you so optimistic." Both of them walked together out of the building, ready to face whatever this new world has in store for them.
