Okita Souji lived a life founded in historical fact.
Except here Okita is a woman.
Huh? What? Shh, shh, don’t worry about it. Nothing will be the slightest bit amiss so long as none of her face doubles pop up. Avoid any and all King Arthur-related individuals, French saints, and Roman emperors with verbal tics. Okita will simply be Okita, then. (A Saber that doesn’t shoot beams.)
A genderswap doesn’t alter the core of who Okita Souji is. She came into prominence in the twilight years of the shogunate as a prodigy at the blade. Together with childhood acquaintances Kondou Isami and Hijikata Toshizou, they formed the center of the Shinsengumi, a special police force active in Kyoto and recognizable for their blue haori. She served as the captain of its first unit.
Combat lay at the heart of Okita, who harbored an undying pursuit of battle alongside her comrades, but her health did not align with her dedication. Tuberculosis shaved away at her until she retreated from the frontlines and passed away.
This fragility imprinted itself on her legend and remains an indelible part of any manifestation of the person called Okita Souji. She exists now as the record of a spirit in what is termed a Servant in service to a Master, but that doesn’t appear to be the circumstances of her current summoning. Bereft of the cursory circumstantial knowledge bestowed in a typical summoning, Okita finds herself alone and without a damned clue what this Crossroads thing is or why she’s here.
But, surely, there must be some purpose--and ideally, it is one that lines up with her deepest desire in fighting to the most bitter of ends, in dying a better death.

- To foes, Okita presents as a steely, unflappable warrior, wholly at ease with bloodshed. Off the battlefield and amongst allies, however, her attitude is almost peculiarly opposite, good humored and prone to energetic. She’s as likely to smile and gently joke with a child as she is to cut a person down.
