Character Name: Sandor Clegane

Character Source: A Song of Ice and Fire

Starting Location: Mesa Roja

Character Behavior:
Wrathful - Sandor Clegane has been described by some as tormented, cruel, bitter, nasty, violent, or foul. Above all else The Hound is a simmering pot of wrath. He is subservient to those he needs be subservient to until he hits his breaking point, but those who are beneath him are expected to tread lightly lest they incur his anger. Foul of mouth and fouler of temper, he is quick to anger, especially when he is in his cups which is more oft than not.

Knight - The Hound abhors being called a knight, referred to as Ser, or having chivalry tacked onto his identity. Despite this, once, he swore vows and was anointed with the title. He fights as a knight does with sword and shield, wears mail at least and plate at most, and is well honed with both sword and lance. He rides a mount as well, though he leaves it out of combat whenever possible. Clegane is an enormous man, though less so than his brother who is dubbed “The Mountain that Rides”. Despite his size he is quick, and attacks with powerful, tactical strikes. He has an aggressive personality and that reflects in his combat. Amongst knights he is considered a man to be respected in combat, or at least feared.

Physical Description:

The Hound might’ve been handsome in some parallel universe, but that universe is not this one. When he was a youth his older brother held his face to a lit brazier and he came away with half of his face horribly disfigured. The left side of his visage is a ruin of burnt flesh that pulls his lips back in a perpetual sneer on one side, wraps around his eye, and has left him the stump of a left ear. Shaggy black hair falls from his scalp in a shock where it can still grow, and the other side of his scalp is barren. His eyes are full of anger, always, excepting the rare occasions when they are full of something else.

He stands a head and shoulders above most men, though, looks a small man beside his brother Gregor who stands nearly eight feet in height. He is broad of shoulder, powerfully built, and wears chainmail beneath airy white silks. Beneath those but over his mail he wears a surcoat bearing the sigil of house Clegane: three black hounds rampant on a field of yellow. He carries with him (and sometimes wears) a steel helm fashioned in the shape of a snarling Hound.

Character History:

Sandor’s father was not a Lord. He served a Lord, however, as kennelmaster. When that Lord was on the hunt he was set upon by wolves, at which point the kennel master released his hounds - they fought and died, but drove off the wolves’ attack. For that, the kennel master was granted a meager holdfast outside of Karim, making him a lesser Lord in all but title.

That kennel master went on to have two boys. Their mother died of mysterious circumstances soon after Sandor’s birth, and the boys and their father were left on their own. Sandor’s older brother Gregor was cruel of disposition, stubborn, angry, and violent. Sandor himself began life as an inquisitive and meek youth.

When he was young, Sandor found his older brother’s abandoned toy - a wooden horse and knight - and took it upon himself to play with them. When Gregor discovered him at play he became wroth, seized Sandor by the collar, and thrust him face first into a lit brazier. Their father broke the boys up, but not before permanent damage was done to the left of Sandor’s face.

Little is known of Sandor Clegane from that point forth. He served here and there, took vows as a knight once, and grew increasingly embittered with the world around him as he grew older and discovered the cruelty of man. Rejected and reviled for his appearance, he was forced to take work where he could and make use of his martial prowess - often as a sellsword. He found himself in time riding accompaniment to bandits and sellswords.

Abilities/Skills:

Knight’s Physique
Agility - Rank 4 (800)
Modifiers: None
Endurance - Rank 4 (400)
Modifiers: None

Life on the road is rough, and life as a hedge knight is rougher. It’s kill or be killed when the roads are dangerous. Years of eking out a living by the blade have conditioned The Hound into a man of ferocious physique, both quick and enduring. He is able to react quickly in combat, and sustain himself for a lengthy period of time with great stamina.

Total Cost: 1200

Longsword

Damage - Rank 4 (400)
Modifiers: Removable (-200)

Sandor Clegane carries a longsword at his hip at all times with which he is deadly in his efficiency. Few men are as feared with naked steel in hand in the Badlands as The Hound. The only disadvantage? A longsword can be removed.

Total Cost: 200

Mail and Shield

Protection - Rank 4 (400)
Modifiers: Removable (-200)

The Hound eats and sleeps in mail, with the notable exception of when he’s in a room at an inn that’s locked and barred. There are few moments when either his chainmail or his shield are not close at hand, and he knows how to use them both. Shields can be disarmed or broken, however, and chainmail is not impenetrable.

Total Cost: 200

Stranger

Speed - Rank 2 (400)
Modifiers: Finite (-100)

The Hound’s steadfast companion is his horse, Stranger. Stranger is a courser with a temple as foul as his rider’s, however, the two of them have formed a strange companionship that finds the stallion behaving as gently as an aged gelding around Sandor. The two of them are rarely far from one another, and Stranger is The Hound’s primary form of transportation.
