Vienne Quigley stared up, and then stared up some more to take in the immensity of the machine standing before her. EVA Unit-00 towered high in the bright morning sun, bolted and secured into its maintenance gantry like a wild animal that could have gone on a killing spree at any moment. It was cause for a bit of cognitive dissonance, as a pair of cardinals worked on a nest in the recesses of the machine's armored shoulders. The small birds took flight as a maintenance crew lifted a crane full of heavy mechanical supplies up to its exposed sensor arrays.

"Wow." Vienne said plainly.

"I've seen some giant robots in my day, but this is by fair the giantest. To use technical terms." the commentator grinned. Next to her stood three other women of various ages. Dr. Akagi in her casual white lab coat, Major Katsuragi with her striking purple hair (Vienne made a mental note to ask who did her color job), and the young Miss Ayanami dressed in the casual school clothes of the Arcadian Academy.

"That's right! Unit-00 is large and in charge, in the best way! Its raw physical statistics are off the charts; more than enough to squash the Wing Gundam like a bug!" the loud-mouthed Major bragged.

"I bet! But correct me if I'm wrong; isn't the Eva's internal power supply highly limited?" Vienne followed up. Doctor Akagi took a long drag of her cigarette, and took her time in ashing it before responding.

"That's true. But the Evangelion system was developed as a defensive measure. When operating on a connected power supply, it easily out performs conventional mobile suit defense platforms." Ritsuko said. Her tone left very little to the imagination, but Vienne's journalistic needling demanded her to push the issue.

"I bet! But the HRGP officials have made it clear; the umbilical power cables for Unit-00 will not be available for most - if any - of the events. How do you plan to counteract this?" she insisted.

"We have been able to extend the Eva's internal power supply from five to ten minutes with the help of some Protoss power modules provided by Exectutor Selendis, but we also plan to provide the EVA with backup power packs if needed during extended sorties." Ritsuko retorted with her persistent dry tone.

"Ahh, so that explains the highly under-budget cost of the EVA as well, huh?" Vienne asked.

"Yup! The Evangelion system is designed to be flexible and adaptable! But we also put a lot of trust in our pilot. Rei and Eva have been practicing hard to max out their efficiency!" Katsuragi interjected. Vienne turned to the pilot, Rei, who had been oddly silent until now.

"I bet! Anything to add to that, Miss Ayanami?"

"No. Everything the Major and Doctor have said is correct. I think everyone for their support, and I will do my best." Rei mumbled. She was barely audible above the thundering clang of construction equipment, booming down from the gantry. Vienne glanced at her gleaming, red eyes and saw something strange there...it was a sadness that had some kind of story behind it.

...but now was not the time to dig in to that.

"Well, we certainly look forward to it, Miss Rei! But, our time is up for now. With regards from Arcadia, this is Vienne Quigley, once again signing off for HRGP!"
