The night was dark, the sky all encompassing, and the only light that lit up the destroyed remains of what once stood being the last lingering flames of the events that had transpired earlier that night. Eerily lit by one of these loose lingerings of the past was a humanoid figure. Upon closer inspection it seemed like some kind of scarecrow, a weirdly designed one, but still just a normal scarecrow…

Until it breathed.

Slowly it’s metal hand clenched it’s fingers together, then slowly opened them. It head turned just as awkwardly, like the creature was looking for something. “Sh…” Came it’s voice, low and quiet like the wind. “Sh…” It came again, the creature getting up in a sort of manner that would make one think of bones cracking and snapping.

It’s movements forward consisted of heavy footsteps that dug it’s boney metal feet into the concrete beneath. *Errrr* The hinges of the monstrosity creaked, only stopping when it did. It stared at bird laying dead on the floor. It’s chest stained a blood red, its eyes lifeless and feathers singed. Slowing the skeletal hand of the scarecrow wrapped around it, moving it closer to it’s head, as if to look at it, to study it. After 5 secs the hand lowered back down to the creatures waist. One hand movement and *Crsh* The sound of bones snapping and blood bursting filled the silence and the head of the bird was punctured into as loose nail on the monsters body, it’s lifeless body falling limp and moving slightly in the wind.

“Ang… Sh... Find…”

*scrcth* That was the sound that followed the monstrosity everywhere. The sound of metal claws scraping along old worn down concrete. It was a sound that would chill most people to their core when paired with the heavy breathing and crushing off footpath underneath the scarecrows feet.

The night that carried these sounds were cold, colder the most. Not that the creature could feel it. It’s robotic body felt nothing. Labor-9 felt nothing.

What was Labor-9? It was the name given to the cybernetic creature. It was given it by a mad scientist. A scientist of brown hair, a slender body and gray eyes. That’s what the creature was looking for. It had been looking for them for an hour at least. And then finally, a sign.

Down the murky river a object came. It was a head. A head of a familiar golden hair, though it’s one radiant complexion was now stripped of life and color. As the lanky body picked and concentrated on this being, visions came to it. The visions of a dead girl’s last memories.

Today was going to be the start of a wonderful life. Hiyoko knew that, and that’s what gave the young lady a extra skip in her step. This is where it all starts, picking out the dress, the venue, the things you say before you kiss the oddly fascinating husband… Vows, that’s what they’re called, wedding vows.

Climbing over the small pile of rubble, Hiyoko arrived at the front door of a building far more decrepit than anything in the city. As the vines had slowly started taking over the outer walls, most people who saw it for the first time would probably be afraid to look instead. Not Hiyoko though. When she first saw it she thought that maybe a group of aliens had been keeping Shuu imprisoned. She barged in and and nearly broke the door handle off, sprouting of something about barbarian heritage. It was awkward, well, at lease to Hiyoko it was. Nothing ever seemed to get under the doctors skin.

“Hey Doctor, I’m-” *crsh* Down fell the head.

There she was, Hiyoko, now nothing more then a head on a counter, watching as her lover scooped her brains out of her head and tried to put them in the robot, watching his hopeful smile as it began to move turn into a frown when it stopped, and then a look or horror once he fully realized he made his lover’s death come early.

She herself was unable to such emotions, or any emotions her lingering will may have on seeing her love like this. Any loss, anger, or sadness merely being covered up by the hopeful smile her head was removed with, the hopeful smile of someone innocent…

“No, No! NO! Please work! You’ve got to work!” she heard, her fiance frantically checking the scarecrow’s body. “I did this so I wouldn't lose you… please… just please move…”

With a heavy sigh the doctor gave up, and looked pitifully at the bodyless head on the counter, it was the last thing left of her now, but at least he still had it.

Suddenly a gunshot fired. “Open up Shuu, we know what your doing in there, and we know you know we told you not to.” A dread pulled itself over the doctor’s face in the silence. “Open up in 3 or we open fire.”

What Shuu said net was mumbled, but he moved as quickly as possible to stuff the disembodied head into a bag. The head recognized that bug, it was the backup bag for running away. Inside was something else she recognized.

Shuu recognized it too, picking it up out if the bag before zipping it back up and enclosing Hiyoko in darkness. It was dark for awhile, everything that happened outside the bag muffled, until…

As the zip flew open Hiyoko’s head could see the night sky, but it was moving, very fast. The head was lifted up to be spoken to. “Hiyoko, I’m not gonna be able to run forever. Not that want to, I always thought that if we had to run away, it would be us, not just me. So… so I’m gonna set all my sins right myself, but… before I do… please answer the question… do you forgive me?” A moment passed, and the brown haired man gave a weak smile.

Soon the gunshots could be heard catching up again. “Goodbye… By little chickadee... “ And then they were submerged in water...

---

“...do you forgive me?” That question repeated over and over in Labor-9’s head. The answer, well, that was simple. No. It’s robotic body could feel nothing. Not even emotions. As for Hiyoko? The brain inside the machine? Well…

“...Yes.”
