The Most Dangerous Game
Quest Giver: Babylonia/Gilgamesh
Quest Length: 10k
Quest Location: Kraw
Quest Prerequisites: None
Quest Description: Gilgamesh's ambitions do not only extend to Mesa Roja, but to the entire crossroads. He has recently heard of the lush world of Kraw and desires to display some of the planet's natural riches in his great city of Uruk. He is offering a handsome reward to any person in the crossroads willing to travel to Kraw and hunt down wild game to bring back to Uruk. He's even willing to pay extra to bring it back alive.

Quest also grants entry to faction if desired.
Repeatable? Y

Lilith was utterly infatuated with herself, which was unusual, because she couldn't stand being most of the time. This new outfit had reignited her pride, and she could barely contain it, much like everything else about her. With so little covered, she was practically a walking exhibitionism show, and she encouraged any and all to bear witness to it.

Her one-woman show was interrupted by a piercing pang in the pit of her stomach. A single-minded desire entered her brain: meat. She thought about snatching some off the street, but decided against it; her standards weren't that low.

I'm up for some revelry. Maybe I'll check out that bar.

After hassling several passersby for directions, she ended up in front of The Retching Rex, its bold neon green sign flashing with a cartoony depiction of a dinosaur slumped over, surrounded by bottles of booze. Looking past the glare in the windows, she could see several round tables speckled about the hall, a counter extending longways across either side of the bar, and, most important of all, a gleaming wall of every alcoholic concoction imaginable.

Rather than ogle from outside, Lilith barged straight in, sauntering up to the seats lined up at the counter. The tame atmosphere was interrupted for only a fleeting moment; a scantily clad woman hardly phased most of the regulars here. She waved over the bartender, a lithe man, who jovially welcomed, "You must be new in town! What can I get you?"

She casually glanced over the menu. I'd say just get me a steak, but they have every type of animal on this planet. Some of them are pretty expensive... I think... Fuck it, I'm treating myself. "I'll have a pterodactyl steak with the strongest wine you got."

"You seem to know what you want. How will you be paying today, ma'am?"

"Uhh... Ah, shit, I still don't have any money. How the hell am I supposed to pay for anything around here?!" As if on cue, a handful of Coin manifested on the counter. "Oh. What the fuck was that?"

"You're new to the Roads too? Folks around here hold their Coin in the Medium. Makes transactions instant and all that."

"How convenient." Sure beats carrying it around. A hassle, especially for someone like her. Wait, how do I already have Coin?... Anyways. I don't have a real need for money, but it is nice taking what I want without starting a riot. "So tell me more about the 'Roads' as you call it."

"I'd be right happy to!" After relaying Lilith's order and pouring the requested 'strongest wine', the bartender shared his knowledge of Kraw and its places of interest, as well as the rest of the worlds.

The part that was of particular intrigue to her was the quest board, but before she could put any thought to it, her plate arrived. First proper meal I'll have here. Or in a long time come to think of it. Lilith preferred her meat raw, which didn't make her too welcomed at restaurants. Or in any public space for that matter. They were courteous enough to provide a fork and knife, but she had no need for that nonsense. Her mouth watered at the sight of the slab of pterodactyl steak, its juices dribbling down its seared edges, tantalizing steam wafting off its grilled surface. She couldn't wait another second. Grabbing the entire portion with both hands, she dug in as a wolf does to a sheep, ripping through the tender flesh and ferociously swallowing every bite. In a little over a minute she had cleaned her plate.

Shortly after, she washed her meal down with a glass of red wine, spilling some of it on her lips in her ecstatic frenzy. Lilith had consumed copious amounts of alcohol before; the issue was, even though she was used to it, her body wasn't, so in practice she had very little tolerance. Combining the highly concentrated wine created the catalyst for near instantaneous intoxication. As all her inhibitions (at least what little remained) melted away, she got up and stumbled to the center of the bar.

"Alright, who wants to make a mating exhibit right here right now?" she propositioned, drawing all the attention on herself. "C'mon, all of you here can be a part of it. It'll be better than any show you can get at the Menagerie. Hey you, big guy, wanna pin me down on this table and mix our genes—"

Most of the crowd was put off by the prospect of having a public orgy, but before any brave souls could dare step up, two staffers restrained her from either side and forced her towards the outside. "Wha'the fack are yeh doin'?! You can't do this to me!" Lilith stammered in drunken protest. She writhed in their grasp, and despite being more than capable of fighting back, she put up a paltry resistance to being kicked out. "Yo- You damn cowards! I—" Her head smacked the top of the door. "Doww, fuck!!" At last she was removed from the premises, left on the floor after tumbling and tripping.

"Fine, I don't need your stupid bar anyways! Fugh..." She rubbed her temples, trying to regain her footing as the world around her spun and swirled. Parading about the street, she whined, "Won't someone take advantage of me? Anyone? Please I'm really desperate!" Unfortunately, the street-goers had even the smallest amount of self-respect. "Tch. This place fuckin' blows. Isn't there anything better to do...?"

Suddenly, Lilith had a flash of genius in her inebriated stupor. "Hunting!" she exclaimed to an audience of zero. I can't start hunting humans... yet. I need an appetizer to brush up on my skills.

Somehow, Lilith managed to find her way to the village bulletin board, after sobering up to where she could at least read. Papers and fliers dotted the wall, the incoherent collage indecipherable. So, she simply started out on the left side and scrolled across to the right.

Join the academy? Boring.

Capture a specimen for some science-y bullshit? Lame.

Join the assassin's guild? Too tedious.

Take a course for a hunting license? I never had to ask permission before so... definite no.

Huh, this looks fancy.

Standing out from the rest was a dazzlingly bright yellow poster.

'The Most Dangerous Game'? A little uninspired, but who am I to judge.

She skimmed over all the useless information. Glory to the king, wealth and riches for Uruk, loyalty to the kingdom, seriously who gives a fuck?

God, is that portrait supposed to be of him? He looks like a real uptight cunt. I already wanna kill him and not just because he's a king.

Just looking at someone so gaudy left a sour taste in Lilith's mouth. She reads a little further.

I ought to pay him a visit, hand-deliver the goods. Quest sounds simple enough.

The poster was generous enough to provide a map of Mesa Roja, specifically the route from Karim to Uruk.

Geez, I know this is a massive universe and all but it takes so much traveling to get anywhere.

Lilith groaned, heading for the nearest place she could get a lift outside the gates

Later, at the Wilderness Exploration Center...

Lilith barged past the entrance doors, striding up to a woman at the front desk, who greeted in a cheery voice, "Welcome, visitor! Are you here for a tour?"

"Perhaps." She bent over and propped her arms on the polished wood, which brought her down to a level height. Her flirtatious mood had not subsided from her earlier alcoholic outburst. "After seeing you though, I may be interested in a different sort of ride."

The short-haired brunette, who's nametag read Cheryl, anxiously gulped, fighting to keep her gaze forward and not wander off to the rest of this tall lady who was knowingly presenting their body. "Well, ma'am, there are certain procedures we adhere to before letting anyone outside the walls—"

"I don't give a damn about the rules, whether it's going outside the walls, or inside yours." Lilith produced a fistful of Coin and slid it over suggestively. "I'm sure we can work something out, just name your price."

The woman's eyes jumped between the stack of Coin and the lustful stare fixated on her. "I- I can see if we have anything on such short notice." Cheryl's hand lingered over Lilith's as the exchange was made, the intensity between them growing several orders of magnitude. No longer able to take the overwhelming pressure, she hurried off to find a driver, too feverish to consider protocol.

"I'll swing by if I'm ever in need of a private tour~"

Lilith didn't consider herself a 'car girl' but even she had to admit the jeeps they had were impressive. Durable, earthy green exterior, reinforced windows, heavy-duty tires, surrounding a sleek, comfy, insulated interior. You certainly get your money's worth. She nodded off, sinking into her seat as she rested up before getting the mission underway. Although it was short-lived, it was the nicest place she slept at thus far.

She was jolted awake by the sudden stop and the notice from the driver that this was as far as they could go from the village. Lilith instructed them to wait while she ventured off on her own. She was given a walkie-talkie as a safety precaution, though she doubted she'd need it.

Ah, the hunt. It's been far too long since I've indulged in my greatest pleasure in life.

She went back and forth in her head as she walked to nowhere in particular.

Now what sort of rare animal would a pompous king want?... He'll probably take anything.

The better question to be asking herself, what was something she could take down and bring back alive? Lilith wasn't exactly known for her non-lethal methods. No way she was outrunning anything on foot either. Whatever she decided on must have mutual bloodlust.

She imagined the scenario would play out something like this: scampering along craggy tree bark is a golden gecko (why gold? I dunno, kings like gold, right?), shimmering with its blinding glittery scales. Lilith, seizing the opportunity, crawls on all fours, slinking through the soil, narrowing in on her prize. As she draws near, she goes in for the kill, bolting up and lunging into the air, only to crash hard into the tree trunk, watching in defeat as the gecko flees, never to be seen again.

Perhaps she could try wrestling an alligator? Wouldn't be too hard given her capabilities, although what she hauled back would hardly be recognizable, dead or alive.

What about a raptor? No, too generic. Besides, she was so over dealing with 'em.

Jaguar? Doable. Heavy though.

Alright, alright. Thinking's getting me nowhere.

Lilith rolled her shoulders and cracked her neck a few times, then closed her eyes.

Her mind disassociated from the physical realm, transcending to a plane of profaned energies. Her consciousness connected to hundreds of flaring auras, her senses becoming overwhelmed by the sheer number of cursed beings in her vicinity, an explosion of color contrasting against the stark black.

I need to focus.

Lilith began to cut out the noise. First she removed the pests and insects from her awareness, then went the lesser rodents and birds, their wispy gray outlines dissipating. The congregation of plant life, with its network of gnarled, veiny roots anchored to the earth, soon faded too.

Now she narrowed her concentration, steadily turning and scanning the few entities left. There were raptors, one large and several juvenile; some beefy four legged creature; a tall thing, stalk-shaped, that stood motionless; and an immense, coiling creature, its movement a mesmerizing slither. While most of the fauna seemed fun to hunt or be hunted by, none of them really jumped out at her attention. She wanted something she could be proud to turn in for this quest.

Isn't there anything truly special around here? Although, that snake... No, not right now. I'll just find some way to get this over with.

Lilith opened her eyes, curling her lips in frustration and hurling a fist at the nearest tree. "Frgh!" she grunted, ignoring the recoil stinging her knuckles.

I'd have a better time waiting for something to fall out of the sky!

Just as Lilith thought she might boil over, her senses were alerted to a sudden spike of cursed energy, her head instinctively turning to its source. Like a blazing comet, it descended from the cosmos and landed with a booming impact.

It only took a second for her to realize that it was no meteor, for it was alive.

The smoldering fire around the slime sizzled out as it splattered against a large tree trunk, sinking its gelatinous being into it as it recovered from the impact. The damage it had sustained in its fall from orbit had taken a toll on the organism. It slowly peeled itself off of the tree and slunk to the floor, sensing its surroundings.

It had landed on a lush planet full of fauna big and small, with a diversity of flora to match. The slime sensed the felled saplings that had also suffered its grasp, a slew of toxic jello scattered against the foliage.

It hardly held any weight to it in its diminished form, slowly attempting to grow as it fed further on the life around it. The licks of flame that danced around its crash site slowly dwindled as the slime continued to swell, leaving a trail of rot and death in its wake.

It began as a crawl, picking up the decaying matter on the jungle floor while it tracked some other slime trails that it managed to detect on them. Like a trail of food it scooped up each snail and slug, almost seeming to slurp them down as it was simply absorbed into it.

It looked for more prey. A frog leaped across a few stemmed plants, turning itself on the last as it scanned the air for its next meal. The slime took little time to flatten itself along the floor, a gentle ooze that spilled underneath the basking amphibian. A nearby fly was suddenly snatched out of the air, and the frog chomped on its reward, unaware of the trap being laid below.

A snap of itself against the group like an arcade popper sent the slime up into the frog’s perch, allowing it to clasp itself around it like a toxic bubble. The frog attempted to leap through the caustic jello but only found itself falling along to the floor with it.

The bubble ceased to exist, and the frog and its meal became another’s. As filling a meal as this was, the toxic slime did still hunger, and set its eyes upon another set of movements

A squirrel paused to look around, making sure there were no others watching it as it buried its stash that it gathered from the surrounding trees into a hallowed trunk. The mammal ducked into the hide and poked its head out, worried about its competition and the last hoard that it managed to lose. As it slunk into the pit of the hole and stuck its new findings in their cache, the sunlight was suddenly blocked at the hollow trunk’s entrance.

The squirrel pressed against the end of its hide and held fast, before a sudden lurch pulled it away. The slime began to press inward, making sure to allow bubbles of air to push right through its form, giving it a slight suction-like effect as it was further pulled inside. Panic set into the rodent as it dug into its stash, attempting to find escape before a quiet swept over the besieged hide.

Another meal. Yet still not enough. It could hardly fit inside the hollow trunk now, and spilled back out into the forest, eager to find more prey. However, as it grew and held more mass, it wanted something greater.

Perhaps something that could fight back.

Something about the way creatures fought back proved that there was more life in them than others. An urge to preserve itself and its stores, instead of passively waiting for death to arrive before the next meal or offspring.

Rusting in the brush besides the slime led it to its answer. It seemed that this planet was willing to give the creature any meal it desired. More rustling led to another creature lurking behind the slime, and then another. A trio of raptors that had become concerned with the new guy pushing in on some territory.

A slash tore through the slime’s side, biting back into the claws that dealt the blow while the three raptors began to heckle the slime. Eventually, a bite was caught, and the slime threw itself upon its assailant.

The raptor tumbled to the floor, a mouthful of toxic ooze bubbling from its mouth as the slime leaped upon it. Clawed feet pushed against it before also being absorbed, but only after splashing the ooze on the nearby shrubbery. Holes ate into them as the raptor lost its life, melting into more matter for the slime to use.

The remaining two attempted to save their fallen friend, but just like for him the slime stretched out and grabbed each one, a blanket of sludge that drug them down like tar. Somehow this meal tasted much sweeter than the last. It will take some time for these creatures to become fully digested, though their basic attempts at attack were somewhat pitiful. The roars in the distance gave the slime something to look forward to, perhaps something with a bit more to it than just a chomping bite and a few sharpened nails.

Though this environment was not as aquatic and helpful to their movement as the waters of Opealon, the sheer amount of organic material allowed the creature to simply gorge on its surroundings, feeding it for millennia. Perhaps this was the perfect place to start its true rise to sentience.

Though it’s most recent loss was fresh in its confusing memory, it knew that this would only be another opportunity for it to adapt and prepare itself for the next great prey. Creatures that would fight till the bitter end for their life, even if they were destined to lose and become another source for true existence. The possibility of expansion was endless, and it would persist at every turn to make sure that it too was there at the end of time. There would be no telling when the next opportunity would present itself, and it needed to be ready for that time.

She felt it more than heard it. A wave of energy crashing into her, fanning out and pulsating through her veins. Such concentrated power made her spine tingle and would make her hair stand on end... if she had any from the neck down.

She was drawn to it, a supernatural connection pulling her in. What reason could she possibly have? It wasn't for the sake of this silly quest; that thought had long since left her. No, it was something else entirely. Simple morbid curiosity?

Whatever the case, one thing was clear: there was much to be gained from this otherworldly encounter.

The creature was already on the move, small in size, yet its strength condensed. It was feeding, growing, consuming. This creature was no cursed spirit as far as she could sense, which made her all the more fascinated. How could such a being come to exist?

Thinking would only drive her mad; the anticipation was eating away at her, she had to see it with her own two eyes.

Lilith was mere steps from coming face to face with the specimen, when her nose caught an oddly familiar scent. Is it just me or does it smell like... me? The smell of dissolving flesh was unmistakable. The idea that something else could be like her wracked her brain.

She leaned onto a tree trunk and tentatively peaked out from behind.

A thousand realizations struck Lilith all at once, she was overcome with vivid clarity. With just one look at the slime, her burning questions were resolved.

Now, she wouldn't use the word 'cute' to describe it. In fact, she hated the word. The closest she could come up with was 'adorably macabre'.

An unknown force compelled Lilith to pick up the amorphous blob. "I- I have to touch it!" she blurted out.

If it hadn't noticed her before, it definitely did now. How could it hear? How could it see? How was this thing capable of sensing at all?

Standing two feet in the mud, she examined the great big green lump. It didn't seem to want to kill her or run away... yet. Perhaps it was lost in ponderance? She could only guess. Couldn't hurt to try asking.

"Are you hungry, little slime?" she chirped.

No mouth, teeth, or lips, it said nothing in response. Obviously it engorged its prey in its mass to absorb their life essence. It had no need for such crude implements. Shame, though. Lilith loved that raw sensation of gnashing through meat with her powerful jaws. There wasn't much pleasure to be had in melting people down, at least not the physical kind.

"I'll take that as a yes." Not like she would've accepted a mysteriously vocalized 'no'. She knelt down and reached out, as one might pet a stray cat. However, her hand encountered resistance from some invisible barrier. No, that wasn't quite it. That was merely her initial reaction. Her palm had become wrinkled and shriveled just grazing this thing's presence.

Its cursed energy is so potent, it's constantly radiating off! What a fascinating specimen. Yet more reminders of herself. Just how alike were they? She figured that in another life, or maybe with a few different choices, she might've lost all vestiges of humanity, becoming a mindless corrosive conglomeration. Honestly, the world would be a better place for it. Unfortunately, Lilith was gifted sapience. There was calculation behind her countless cruelties.

What did she care about getting hurt, though? She was determined to feel the slime against her skin, even if it temporarily killed her. Once more she dove in, forcing her forearm past the hazardous bubble, and watched as her entire limb darkened to a sickly shade of gray. It felt as though she was a rotten fruit, her outer layer flaking and sloughing off, revealing a grimy, decayed core. The sensation was... odd. Lilith had long ago stopped aging physically, and her curse prevented her from decomposing. It was refreshing, in a way.

After the slop that used to be a hand crumpled onto the ground, a fountain of deep red spewed from the open flesh wound, causing Lilith to erupt in a depraved fit of laughter. "FAHAHAHAAH!! AMAZING!" She clutched the gushing stump of an arm, pupils dilating and heart racing in excitement and shock at the excessive blood loss. In the midst of her high, she neglected to notice her splashing on the dormant gelatin, which seemed to not mind the sanguine shower. It was delighted to absorb the substance into its body. If it had a sense of taste, perhaps the slime would take a liking to her appetizing blood? In any case, it followed the splattering trail, and Lilith backed up in kind. She didn't fancy being eaten alive, not today anyways.

By now the spluttering had subsided as her limb cauterized itself, gradually growing back to its full shape. The blob was tantalized no doubt, but it was momentarily distracted by something on the ground. Lilith used this opportunity to let one arm reshape while she nibbled on the other, releasing a red river from her wrist.

"Come on er, whatever you are. There's more of me where I came from." She swiveled around and led her new pet along in a disturbing imitation of an animal being guided by breadcrumbs. May as well make some small talk before I bleed out.

"So do you have a name?"

"You're pretty green and squishy (I assume). How about I call you Lime? Sound good?"

"Great."

What was once a simple hunt and capture now turned into an escort mission, more or less. Lilith hadn't bothered to think about how she'd drive 'Lime' around in the jeep.

An offering.

This was something that the toxic slime had not experienced before. It had enjoyed its chase of its previous prey, but there was something different about being offered supple flesh for seemingly nothing. The grass beneath it dissolved as it slurped up the splattered blood globs on the plant matter.

The woman seemed to be trailing the slime somewhere, but it did not care enough to know why. It simply seemed satisfied to be fed. The trail did not lead far, but it appeared to end at some metal vehicle. The slime stretched up to prod the metallic beast, unsure of whether or not it was being led to a trap.

The woman simply smiled at it and patted the seat beside her and dabbed the seat with some splotches of blood.

“Don’t be shy now I’m sure you’ll fit! Nice and cozy for you! Wish you could at least tell me what you like besides blood.”

The guide seemed perplexed by the slime’s presence, and immediately protested.

“This is not something that is from here, and it reeks of death. You expect us to bring this with us?”

The slime looked up with its nonexistent eyes directly at the woman as she turned to the other intelligent prey. The toxic being hesitated, before reaching up and pooling into the vehicle.

“Yeah, do you have a problem with that?”

The guide simply mumbled something about not getting paid enough for this shit.

Communication.

This was something that didn’t seem necessary to the creature. It did not need to converse with food. The Jeep had already begun to rust and warp, showing that the slime’s aura didn’t just simply work on the organic life around it. Anything caught in its metaphysical gaze was subject to its destruction. Lilith felt her lifeforce waver in its presence, and the guide seemed even less enthusiastic.

Not that she cared much.

“Now to just get you to-”

A deafening roar cut her off mid-sentence, silencing the subtle sounds of Kraw around them.

She snapped her head to the slime, “I really hope that was you, Lime.”

The thundering sound of an anjanath burst through the trees and roared once more, bellowing a short burst of flame from its mouth as it bared its teeth. Lilith jumped into the driver’s seat as the guide sat dumbstruck, shoving him behind her with the slime.

“Alright, looks like this is going to have to be an express route. You're not the only thing looking for a snack!”

The slime could not understand her speech, having no prior need to learn any language. It simply sat in its seat like an ice cream sundae left in the sun too long on a hot summer day, the inertia seeming to not only pin it to the seat, but even allow it to slowly seep into it, devouring the upholstery in record timing.

“We must go faster!” The guide loudly stated, his eyes wide to the teeth and flames that threatened his life in front of him.

Lilith glanced in the rearview mirror, watching as the anjanath stomped closer and closer to the vehicle.

“Of course it’s not just dealing with the slime, I have a dinosaur to deal with too…” She cursed under her breath.

The necrotic slime jiggled against the wind, slipping further down on the seat. Lilith focused on the predator behind them, driving wildly through the dense forest and struggling to glance at her map. A snap of jungle vines and branches suddenly let them out into a clearing…

“Wait! We are heading towards-” the words came too late.

...and straight into a canyon’s edge.

Lilith slammed on the brakes, only to find herself ankle deep in necrotic sludge.

“You have to be kidding me, do you ever stop eating?”

The woman braced herself as the duo shot off the cliff in the Jeep, hovering in the air for just a moment before the jaws of the anjanath snapped down on the rear of the vehicle. Lilith glanced back in time to see her guide garishly bit in half, spraying both her and her captured slime in his blood. His face contorted in pain and he yowled before becoming silent. The anjanath violently shook the weakened metal, sending mechanical parts flying out over the edge and to the canyon below.

Lilith took a breath before realizing that one of those things flung out into the air was the slime.

Shit.

She stood up and braced against her seat before launching herself towards the falling gelatinous being, hoping for the best with her ability to not die as they plummeted below.

The rest of the world was a blur until she felt herself slam against the floor, enough to embed herself into it. She feared that she might have to wait to recover to be able to move, and instead found herself spit out beside a pile of goop.

“Lime?” She coughed out some blood and stood up, making sure that it hadn’t taken a bite, or more accurately, a slurp out of her.

The creature stirred and pulsed slightly, before expanding larger than before. It held itself for a moment, and Lilith swore she could hear an inhale come from the creature.

HISSSSSSSSSSS

The first noise to come out of the slime that wasn't just a byproduct from it attacking or moving. Lilith sat surprised for a moment. Clearly, the little guy was pissed, but not pissed enough to swallow her whole.

Communication.

Perhaps it did have some use. A certain satisfaction came over the slime as it hissed at its abductor. There was value in this prey’s ability to regenerate, similar to itself. Something about the persistence of life drew its attention, demanding a focus that it could not ignore. However, if it came down to its own survival, it would have no qualms sacrificing the newfound pet.

“Thanks, Lime. Even if you didn’t mean to catch me.”

It watched while the woman searched herself and found the radio that she luckily managed to keep with her in the chaos. At the very least, she had managed to keep her radio, but this still complicated things. There was no way for her to transport the slime, and now without a vehicle or a guide, it might be a bit longer to get back to that King.

A loud slurping came from beside her, and she turned to see the wide eyes of said guide. She crouched down and noted the slime as it consumed the half eaten corpse, watching it with patient glee while it seemed to retract into itself while it digested. The necrotic aura dissipated as it recovered and grew back the matter it had lost in the fall.

Perhaps she could use this information to make her life a little easier with this little slime.

"A 'you're welcome' would be nice. Geez, Lime, don't you ever think about anything else besides eating?"

Lilith had no idea what to make of the cacophonous hissing noise. Perhaps Lime was capable of speech after all?

Unbeknownst to her, it had a very different idea of the dynamic between them. Lilith had no problems with submitting to someone—or something—superior. However, thinking wasn't enough. No, it had to be proven to her. Otherwise she was the one in control by default.

For as vain as the slime was, she wasn't much better.

Miraculously, her tool belt (which only served to store spare fabric) was unscathed in the aftermath of the perilous yet exhilarating ordeal. She couldn't say the same about her attire, which now failed to conceal any part of her body. Not that it was good at covering up to begin with. In any case, sealing her wounds would destroy the bands of fabric, which utterly crushed Lilith's sinful heart. Now she wasn't one to get sentimental, but she had grown attached to the skimpy piece of clothing. Internally, and over-dramatically, she mourned, but quickly got over herself. After all, nothing lasts forever.

With a bereaved sigh, she unclipped her belt and let her ooze do its thing. Scrapes and bruises blackened over, becoming viscous and malleable, moving mass back into its proper place. Like lava settles and cools, her skin returned to its marble white complexion. The cost, of course, being that she stood 1,000 feet below the earth in all her nude glory.

"Just so you know, I'm only naked because I have to be, not by choice!" she called over, though her voice fell on deaf ears- er, auditory apparatuses. What was she thinking, anyway? It's not like Lime had a single perverted cell in its body. Although… Maybe I could teach it how to use its slimy appendages… The deviant thought entering Lilith's mind greatly aroused her. She lamented her lack of time to act on her desires. Normally it took a lot more to get her worked up; maybe it was due to how long she'd been lust-starved. God, I need to get laid.

Lilith tossed her belt behind a bush, figuring this wasn't the end for the trouble she was wrapped up in. She fiddled with the radio for a few moments before giving up. What the hell would she say if someone picked up anyhow? 'Yes, the jeep and the guide that came with were totally mauled by a massive dinosaur. Could you send another one down the chasm I got dropped in?' Ugh. She took a deep breath. It's fine, just cool off a bit. She flipped open the back of the device and snatched the pair of batteries therein. Then she placed one on either side of her molars and crunched down, releasing battery acid which pleasantly tingled her taste buds. The taste was overwhelmingly sour and juicy, and she sucked on the busted bits of metal between her cheeks to savor every last drop. "Oouhh~" This was Lilith's version of candy, as she passionately hated the sweet and sugary stuff. Satisfied with her treat, she swallowed the depleted batteries whole.

Now I can think of a way out of this mess. She wandered over to the warped wreckage where her wonderfully wretched friend scarfed down the human remains. Lilith hadn't the chance to examine it in great detail before, so with nothing left to lose, she crouched down near and… was pleasantly surprised to find herself unharmed. Is this it? Are you finally letting me in? Whereas before there was a great distance between them, now they were intensely close together. Her heart palpitated as she watched Lime gorge itself on the unidentifiable viscera, the way its form churned and gyrated, as if enticing her to get lost in its verdant sea.

Lilith couldn't keep herself restrained for long. She reached out a hand to pet along its gelatinous surface. For just the briefest moment, it felt better than she'd imagined. Then, the singeing sizzle kicked in, like laying your palm on superheated fiberglass. Skin rapidly peeled and flaked off, leaving a bubbling red slurry behind. "VRRRGGHHhh… Oh GOD!!" she screeched, staring at the flesh wound that reduced her hand to half its thickness. In the back of her mind, she noted that the fizzling abruptly subsided after she stopped making contact.

"Vehh... Hhm... Lime, you naughty creature. Why are you the one always hurting me? I should return the favor! But, oh- I just can't bring myself to hurt you, my sweet specimen~" Lilith cooed to the slime.

As she was preoccupied with being infatuated with the toxic sludge, a looming danger descended upon the deep earthen valley. At first, small rocks tumbled and rolled down the cliff face, the harbinger of an avalanche. The thunderous rumbling shredded against the stone, not unlike a boulder. However, the force barreling down didn't move as fast or freely, instead sliding along the slope to brace its fall. It was oddly familiar…

The cataclysmic crash and catastrophic roar snapped Lilith out of her trance. "Oh hey, I did that once! Didn't go nearly as well for me as that dinosaur. Uh, Lime? Are you done there? 'cause we need to go. Like right now."

It turned an unspecified part in the direction of the ah... Well it was just like a T-Rex, wasn't it? The blob seemed intent on a head-on confrontation, but Lilith was concerned for both of their safety. Firstly, she was likely the primary target, and though it posed no threat to her in the grand scheme of things, she had a feeling Lime wouldn't pass on the opportunity to ditch her. Secondly, although Lime was resilient, it wasn't infallible, and she feared what might happen if the live cargo got too banged up.

"Listen, buddy, I know you're not gonna like this, but I need to keep you out of danger, kay?"

As vengeful stomps fast approached, her arms turned drippy and tar-like, and she hoisted the slime up with a shockingly firm grip for being less than solid. It writhed and thrashed before she reluctantly flung it far ahead. She raced to scoop Lime back up, but yowled as a scorching heat ripped through her back.

"GYEEEAAAGGHH!!" Lilith's body blasted forward and toppled onto the muddy ground. After briefly laying dormant, her entire form darkened over, transforming into the embodiment of corrosive acid. Smoldering embers caught onto the hazardous substance as she slowly rose, creating a profaned chemical reaction. The latent cursed energy contained within seeped out and fueled the flames, a single match igniting the walking oil spill into a rage of abyssal fire, becoming an all consuming void that drained even light.

Lilith faced the anjanath, fury burning in her eyes. A jagged, fire-spitting maw crunched down on her, but it was no match for the subsuming corruption. A volley of volatile energy erupted from her immolating body, sundering the scaled beast's head. Lilith unleashed an inhuman shriek, following up with a swathe of soul-searing fire.

The slime, meanwhile, approached from behind, arriving late to the fight. However, it still had a chance to strike the killing blow. Lilith looked back, and without waiting for so much as a nod of approval, slung the gelatin towards the belly of the beast. The fiery, gooey mortar landed squarely inside the throat of the anjanath, between desperately gnashing its teeth and stumbling towards them.

Shortly after, Lilith fell onto her knees. A cloud of stream radiated from her as the heat died down and her mind retuned to relative stability.

I never knew my curse could be manipulated like that. I don't think I'll be trying that anytime soon, at least not intentionally.

Gross. I'm all sweaty now. At least I'm not wearing anything.

Not wanting to have a repeat so soon, Lilith darted out of the blast zone, avoiding any lingering dark wisps. She hopped onto the gradually rotting corpse of the T-Rex, smothering her face in its hip area and ravenously chomping into the well-deserved meat.

"Hmff, I hope you don't mind me taking a piece for myself," she mumbled with her mouth full.

Licking her lips clean, Lilith backed off to catch her breath against a mossy wall

"Take your time, Lime! I'll just be out here when you're done!"

She laid her hands behind her head as she relaxed and watched the show unfold.

Nudity was nowhere near the slimes list of priority concerns. As far as it could tell, it simply meant that it would be a split second faster to devour her flesh if needed be. Luckily, that didn’t appear to be anytime soon, as the monstrous beast that she had helped it kill was more than enough to satiate its appetite. With each chunk that dissolved into the slime, it grew larger, gaining much more mass with its monstrous meal.

As it ate, it used its excess energy to stimulate itself. The basic use of vocal expression before seemed to have had some use, but in its current state, it could do little besides attack and consume. Perhaps it would need use for some apparatus that could communicate and focus its energy.

A mouth.

As it simply pulled in the carcass into itself and continued to feed, it decided that this would be its next adaptation. The creature began to rearrange itself, using the teeth and bones that it had feasted upon to dredge up a new form. The teeth lined up to make a wide yet adjustable maw, and the bones were shaped into a cavity where it can take a mouthful of flesh to digest.

By the time it had halfway eaten the carcass, the slime could hold itself ten feet tall. Lilith showed some concern as she watched, wondering if there was even a limit to how large the mass could grow to. She prodded it with a finger, watching as it was still sucked in like before, with the same deteriorating effect. At the very least, the aura it held before was no longer present. It seemed that so long as its appetite was satiated, it would not be completely hostile.

She took mental notes as she examined the creature, wondering if there was any way to get around the caustic ooze. Maybe it would find out how to have a friendly physical form in the future, but by the looks of its new jaws, that might not be for a good while.

The creature had also taken some time to think about what abilities Lilith had shown off in their battle. It was clear that she held some type of power that was similar to its own, another caustic being with the intention of destruction. It felt bonded to that goal, and seemed intent on keeping the woman around.

There was something different behind the monstrosity with Lilith and the Kaiju it had battled with on the planet Opealon. The giant creature did not have the same entropic presence that the woman had summoned within herself, battling like a warrior instead of a predator. This sense of superiority was something that it thought was only intrinsic in itself, but Lilith seemed to hold the same drive within her. For now, it would accompany her on whatever journey she was attempting to make.

The slime continued its savoring of the dead anjanath, finally finishing it off with a slurp from its now fully functional mouth. Now, it had an extra tool that it could use to tear into its prey and use that same body part to create noises of approval or dissatisfaction. Speaking of such, it ended its meal with a high pitched groan of satisfaction.

“Looks like you enjoyed your treat big guy~”

The now towering slime sat a solid fifteen feet high. She hoped that it wouldn’t decide that she would be a nice dessert, seeing that she was quite literally completely exposed to it. Speaking of eating her, she wondered if that newfound pink tongue it had grown might have some other uses that might help her out a bit.

She shook the thought out of her head. No, she needed to focus. It took a lot out of her to get rid of that giant predator, and she was sure to come across more if they stayed out after nightfall. They needed to make it back to town.

“Alright Lime, we gotta head over this way alright?” She looked around before settling on a direction. It seemed parallel to the cliffside, so there might be a way around.

The slime replied with a low chortle, as if it agreed only because it had nothing else to do. They marched on, leaving only the deadly trail of ooze in the wake of the slime from all that it touched. Though it would probably make them a lot easier to track, they would be able to tell whether or not they were going in circles.

Lilith watched in awe at her gelatinous partner's spontaneous evolution. In mere seconds it had expanded to 3 times her height. Well, maybe closer to 2 times—she had to give herself some credit. In addition to its swelling size, it grew a massive mouth, much to Lilith's delight. Monstrous maws and giant tongues turned her on immensely, and she found herself ogling the alluring orifice. It's like one large slimy tentacle… Didn't seem like a bad way to go out. She'd jump right in were there not more pressing matters.

At that moment she'd remembered to recover her belt. She scoured her surroundings, overturning rocks and trampling shrubs, until at last she spotted the beloved accessory, thrusting it to the sky victoriously. The fleeting sense of accomplishment slipped away from her, as she realized the hassle in carrying the dainty item.

Sighing, she contemplated a way to remove this inconvenience from her life. She'd grown too attached to her style to simply drop it. Instead, she focused intently on the dark band of clothing and its many compartments, willing it to comply with her demands. To her surprise, it flashed a monochrome glow, and vanished to some unseen realm.

Strange. I can still feel it on me. A faint nudge in the back of her mind told her the object remained in her possession. Seemed like she could call upon it to return, if she so desired. Lilith decided not to question this any further, and began searching for a way out of the dark dank ditch.

The subterranean environment pleaded for the drops of sunlight trickling down the hopeless trench. A rather comfy atmosphere, by the pale woman's standards. She'd not mind holing up here for a few days, if she needed a break from the bloodlust. Denizens dwelt in the earthen confines, she sensed, but they'd be no match for her. She felt exceptionally more confident in herself after slaying the colossal 'saur.

Superiority was such a silly concept to the sadomasochist. So many people obsessed over being better or above. So many people clutched their petty morals and virtues close to their hearts. They could not comprehend a reality where they were just as depraved as a common degenerate. Lilith brutally stamped out these spurious beliefs. Everyone was just as bad as her, no better, no worse. And if she needed to prove it, she'd gladly do so.

It was way too quiet. It ticked her off. To prevent herself from succumbing to madness, Lilith filled the dead air with aimless conversation, not expecting much out of it. "So Lime, how are you enjoying Kraw so far?"

"Wrrshh," the slime chirruped back.

"Oh, yeah, I mean that's about par for the course. Same thing happened when I got here, more or less. But it's not so bad. I adapted pretty quickly," she ostentatiously bragged, convincing nobody in particular that the situation wasn't as tumultuous as she let on.

"Grrlll?" it spluttered in what might've been a question.

"Well I came from some rendition of Earth. Seems like such a far away place now…" she sighed in bittersweet reverence. "But eh, fuck it. I'm diggin' this universe anyways. What about you? Come from anywhere besides the Roads?"

"Drrshff."

"Fascinating. Hey, how'd ya do that evolution thing? Think maybe I could borrow the idea?"

"Blargch, shium!" it barked affirmatively.

"I don't think I can do it exactly like you, Lime. But the way you get stronger in the face of adversity… inspires me."

As the two casually strolled, a leftward deviation in the narrow corridor of the ravine revealed itself. It turned out to be a long upward slice in the side of the cliff. They could feasibly climb out through here, as it was less steep than the adjacent earth. Lilith figured it'd be the same as how the anjanath slid down the incline, just in reverse.

Lilith's first impulse was to throw herself between the rocks to see if she could clamber her way to the top. To her surprise, instead of skittering onto the ground, she suddenly and seamlessly adjusted to stand upright on the slanted surface. Oh yeah, totally forgot. Must be another one of those things she couldn't remember how to do until now. Well, now she can escape herself…

But that'd be rather selfish, wouldn't it?

She hopped, tripped, and fell on her ass, formulating a plan to get them both out.

I've got it!

"Alright Lime, I want you to try squeezing your way up there. Can ya do that for me?" she talked up to the slime heap.

"Worbwurb," it shrilled, springing up in a jovial jiggle and wagging its tongue, like an oversized, voracious dog. The slime bashed its face-mouth against the crag, eroding the rock walls rather than trying to squish between. Steadily it slithered off the ground.

"C'mon Lime, you can do it!" she rooted. "Keep going!" Alas, her encouragement was for naught. Although Lime could pull itself across the jagged terrain, it would take all day to reach the top. How can I make this go faster… A solution of pure genius struck her; using her wall walking, she could push Lime to the surface, utilizing her defense as a buffer against their toxic presence.

Putting on a fresh coat of black paint, Lilith approached from behind, standing upright at an angle. "Now Lime, don't be alarmed, I'm only trying to help. Trust me, this will hurt me a lot more than it'll hurt you." Laying her palms on its backside, she thought aloud, "I don't actually know if you can feel pain. Anyways, let's get moving, kay?"

The plan went smoothly so far. Lime, carving and eating through the path. Lilith, leaving her own trail behind, pushing the gargantuan boulder blob. Wasn't there a myth about this sort of thing? Guy rolls a rock up a hill for all eternity? This was probably like that, sort of. Although she only had to finish once. No, she was eternally punished in a different way, by whom she was not certain.

"Hrrnghh… just a little more…!" The end was in sight as she neared the limits of her perseverance. With one final heave, she raised her rotund companion onto the ledge of the cliff, lurching forward as her center of gravity repositioned. She slingshotted into the bulk of the slime, suspended in mid-air. She'd correctly surmised the result of this scenario: their abilities cannibalized each other.

Lilith wasn't as concerned for herself as she was for Lime, poor thing. She hoped it wouldn't be too upset at losing a chunk of itself. Before they dissolved one another into nothingness, Lime sucked its body in and hawked the acid woman from its gaping maw. It shrunk and fizzled out like a deflated balloon as it congealed into a slightly smaller frame.

Lilith tumbled onto the fresh, surface level grass, slick with digestive fluids. "Well, that was… fun, mostly. C'mon Lime, we got places to be and people to terrorize!"

"Khhaaouwff!" it croaked, seeming to comprehend what her call to adventure entailed.

The feral, untamed forest welcomed Lilith with its familiar gloom. This is where she thrived after all, an abundantly expansive playground to unfurl her animalistic nature. It was the only place she truly belonged, amongst other beasts of prey, participating in the endless game that was the food chain. No arbitrary, artificial, man-made concepts such as laws, civilization, money, or politics. The strong survive; that's the only hierarchy that mattered.

Modernism was a blessing to humanity as much as it was a mephitic blight. Society in its hunger for innovation bred themselves to be docile, predictable, subject to the wills of authority. Many would rather give up their freedom than challenge the status quo. If they wanted to be cattle, then Lilith was happy to butcher them as such.

Killing en masse wasn't quite as meaningful, though. It was a gratifying treat, then, when Lilith set her carnal gaze upon a ripe, juicy target. Whether they were powerful and gave her a fight; affluent and well respected; or famous and cherished by all. Those were the flavors of prey she relished making grand, gruesome displays out of. She especially reveled in sharing her heinous work to the public, sowing rampant horror and despair.

I should really get a phone. And some recording equipment too.

Lilith pondered her future as Lime ferociously feasted on the errant wildlife, predominantly roving packs of wolves and raptors. They were kindred spirits, proliferators of chaos and disorder. Did it have the same motivations as her? She couldn't imagine it having a complex thought process, at least not yet.

But more importantly, she had yet to discover any new toys. It's not like they weren't out there; this world was fantastical, even more so than her original world, in every sense of the word. It was just a matter of finding that special someone that ticked all the right boxes to be a worthwhile target. She had a faint premonition, a tingle in her spine, that wherever she was going on her quest, there'd be no shortage of interesting people. She briefly fantasized about what the desert planet might be like…

but quickly lost herself in fantasies about past victims. Hmm, which one to recall. There were so many. It's hard to think about now… It's fine, she'd fashion plenty of new ones. What about that idol? That's a little more recent. Ahh, loved capturing her voice. The sweet, terrified songs played in her head on repeat. Man, I miss Japan. Wonder if any of its culture exists here? Another topic for another day, she supposed.

The Living and its escort arrived at the edge of the thicket, before a clearing gave way to the barricades protecting New Abraxas. The sun was setting soon; perfect time for a break in.

"Wait up, Lime. We got heavy resistance up ahead," advised Lilith, holding out an arm. It dawned on her that coordinating with this specimen presented certain… difficulties. "Hey, so, can you understand me or what?"

It gave a low murmur in response.

"Eh, good enough. Alright, see that wall up ahead? You're gonna JUMP over it." She made an obvious pointing and leaping gesture. "Then you're gonna go through until you see the BIG GATE." She outlined a tall rectangle with her hands. "There's gonna be lots of guards. KILL anyone in your way. Got it?"

It seemed to respond well to the killing part. A moment after its acid ally finished shouting vague directions, the slime roared, rushed out, and thrashed against the fortifications, launching itself up with shocking swiftness. With a clear view of the guards and townsfolk ahead, The Living commenced its violent invasion.

Stone and mortar.

Disgusting.

The Living attempted to mount the fortification of New Abraxas, and found itself wanting. Paint chipped away as it rounded any sharp edges of the bricks that protected the city, while a snoozing guard in the tower awoke to peek over the edge. The dressed soldier grunted as smirked before calling out taking a puff of the cigarette in his mouth.

“Hey guys, we got another slime. Who wants the potshot?”

Another tower guard answered, “Let the greenie handle it, they need the experience anyways.”

A young woman was pushed forward with a bow and arrow, paraded forward to the slime’s location.

“So do I just shoot it?” She looked over the edge to see the gaping maw of a hungry gelatinous blob.

“Don’t waste anything good on it, just use some scrap arrows. It’ll go down quickly.”

She nodded before taking aim, pulling the string tight and letting it loose, firing the arrow true into the green blob.

“I got it!”

It hissed in response and leaped up at her, narrowly missing the edge of the rampart and causing her to stumble back.

“Woah, that one has some spice to it. Too bad there isn’t much daylight left, move aside rookie.”

The veteran guard snagged a bottle of oil and poured it down onto the slime, watching it ooze over it and slick it up.

“They’re like wicks anywho. Check it out.”

He flicked the hot cigarette down and watched while the flame erupted out of the slime. Hissing filled the air, along with a rotting stench that caused all of the watch guard to recoil a bit.

“Damn, must have had something wretched in its gut!”

The creature scurried away to recover in the thicket. It seemed to bubble with fury at the response it had received. It clearly needed more power, and the woman was no help.

In fact, she was nowhere to be seen. The slime searched the brush, only to find empty tracks.

There goes dinner.

Its thoughts were interrupted by a sudden calling, a pull to the distant world in the sky. From where it came from.

It was time.
