Brooke groaned and clenched her fist, grabbing a handful of sand as her mind raced and she struggled to recall what the hell had happened. Moments ago she’d been in the volcanic wasteland that the Gorons called home, and then the next thing she knew she was laying prone in a… desert? What the hell?

The young woman was sprawled out on the sandy dunes of Mesa Roja, though she was completely unaware that was her present location. She sported blue jeans, a black sleeveless shirt, and brown boots with her blonde hair presently tied in a bun, and she was caked in an inordinate amount of sand from what appeared to be some sort of tumble she didn’t quite remember. Near her laid Baldur, her massive companion belonging to the Goron race: beings made almost completely of solid rock. The golem-like being eclipsed her in size, and was likely part of the reason such a chaotic arrival had flung so much sand everywhere.

She rocked up to a seated position, rubbing her temples briefly before checking to make sure her weapon was still intact. With a cursory look around she spotted Baldur sprawled out amongst the sand as well, his tan, rocky hide serving as a bit of natural camouflage. The adventurous Goron sure didn’t look the part at the moment, barely moving after such a radical arrival in the new setting. Brooke didn’t know where they were. It was nowhere she had ever seen before, even in her vast travels. It appeared that the uncaring deity that had violently ripped her into his domain had expelled her with equal fervor.

“Baldur?” she asked as she sat still and recoiled for a moment longer, the sand sliding out of her hands. “Baldur, you alright?”

An equally pained groan escaped the Goron as he rose to his knees, shaking the sand off of himself. The metal that coated his legs clanged as he beat his stone hands against them to brush the sand off. He looked around and squinted, utterly confused by the turn of events. They had been so close to finding the wandering nomad tribe that was his family, before it had gone so horribly wrong.

“I think?” Baldur stated with uncertainty. He looked and felt fine, but something was obviously very wrong.

Brooke stood up and looked around, noting a city on the distant horizon. Whatever was there, it had to be better than dying out here in the sun-scorched dunes. This wasn’t her first sudden trip through to another land, so she was quick to try and get her bearings. They needed food, water, and shelter immediately, and then needed to figure out how to survive in the new culture she’d been deposited in. It pained her to start at the beginning, but any currency from the previous land had even managed to disintegrate upon arrival, robbing her of finding any value in the slightest from that.

“Where are we?” Baldur finally voiced the pressing question. “Where is everyone?”

“I don’t know, Baldur,” Brooke admitted. “It’s somewhere… different.”

“Different?” Baldur spat as he looked around. “Then where are my friends, my family!?”

Brooke shook her head. What could she say? She’d lost everything and everyone on one sudden departure from her home realm already. This was new to Baldur, and he was a homebody. He enjoyed his adventures with the bounty hunting young woman, but he always had the option to just go back home. This was going to be rough on him.

“I don’t know,” Brooke repeated. She didn’t know what to say. She wasn’t very good at sympathy.

Baldur was trembling with his uncertainty, unable to comprehend the concept of his Goron people being left behind by circumstances outside his control. Now, for no reason he could understand, he might never see them again. He braced his hands on his knees while hunching over, and took a few deep breaths. Brooke noticed this and understood that even though they really didn’t have the time to be dealing with this, it would be a lot quicker to try and soothe the hulking teddy bear. She placed a hand on his arm and rubbed his stone skin, not really sure if he could even feel her. A soft smile from him was some confirmation.

“Come on, let’s find the nearest civilization and figure out what the hell we’ve gotten into,” Brooke tried to

Baldur slowly nodded, and stood up straight. Time to get his game face on.

“Yea, yea. Okay,” he hyped himself up as best he could.

He felt the crippling fear as he moved, but he couldn’t let it hold him back. They had to work together to get out of this mess, and if there was one thing he knew, it was that they could make a pretty damn good team. Maybe they would be alright in this new land.
