Getting swatted on the head with a newspaper made her ears perk as the audible thwap sound was heard as it made contact, she looked up to Astra scolding her only to take the second hit to the face in the punishment she'd explain herself as the newspaper onslaught continued, "Ugh.. I knew this would happen..." She began with her now stuck with the newspaper punishment, "Of course, science isn't exactly perfectly safe some things need to be tested... some require to be living to examine... Since everything grows and evolves over time and based on how things in this forest evolved, of course for things that evolve that's more... complicated. Truthfully due to us all being exposed to new germs here we should be deathly sick, however... The only way to make a vaccine... is to study a live virus. Ricter's healing donuts had been healing his cells alive more than likely... Truthfully in that check up the reason my door was locked originally was to kill the viruses I was testing to create a boost to our immune systems from. It was the burst of air that came out when I first opened the door, if I have to use a life subject... well I am the best bet. If someone got hurt when I'm doing things to protect other people it'd be a step backward, so I can't risk it. As for the parasites though... You don't want parasites from here, I assume your colony knows about... Wasps that act like larvae and have the same pheromones until they wipe out a colony and make a hive... or bugs that lay eggs in other insects... mushroom spores that take over the host. With the big wildlife on this planet... We can conclude because of giant insects... the parasites are very dangerous or symbiotic with great benefits with no in-between. Parasites are some of the most successful life forms, after all.
Basically what I mean is... with massive insects comes with major downsides in the ecosystem... Toxins, parasites, and plants are more successful and therefor more dangerous since they have to use everything at a much higher dosage. And illnesses here will be the same... if they aren't tested then we'd probably get sick out of the blue and die. I know you're worried, but I have my reasons for endangering myself over others. Your colony was wiped out." She exhaled and told the exact same thing she told Ricter.
"Listen closely... because this isn't easy for me. I'd only told Ricter. I said I worked for the government of my world but that's not the full truth, I was abandoned by my family and clan at a young age and put in government care. Half Human Half Beastmen like myself aren't well liked, we are treated like second class.. So my father leaves me, my mother is apparently dead; find out she's alive just before I was warped here but she's under control by someone evil... I was working to prevent my world from dying entirely, so the time line normally resets if something goes wrong. I made an anomaly, meaning everything I know of my universe is completely gone. A new Kokonoe is in my place, risking her life constantly to save a dying planet, the lives of the people that hate her, and her family. The least I can do is do a few dangerous experiments in good of the people, truthfully though... You remind me of my old Lab Assistants, Astra. Cecelia and Tager would always tell me to stop staying up for seven days on nothing but coffee, vodka, and junk food."
Seems Kokonoe had deep seated issues, and did more than risk her self probably through depression of some-sort... but had several self destructive tendencies. One of them seemed to be drinking her problems away, that must be in the past since she's came her she hasn't been seen drinking alcohol at all. Though she was eating Silver-Vine Candy which was basically catnip, which was probably something that helped. She stuck one of her Silver-Vine Lollipops into her mouth, "If need be I'll leave the doors open for you to check up on me, but you'll need to wear the lab safety gear and get a chemical bath before and after just in-case for safety reasons. I don't mind teaching safety procedures and the like for science, it's pretty interesting but it can only be made so safe since accidents happen even without my recklessness." She was being brutally honest, but at least she was more willing to compromise with her safety despite her reasons for doing what she did constantly. She just seemed scared to lose people and her walls were... very built up, she was detached from everything because of it.
Then one of the workers came in to explain how the packing was complete, Alpha and Beta walked down from the lab, "Mother, the launch pad is ready." They said in unison. Before walking back up, she watched the Formica walk out in a group and nodded with a smile to Nola. Once she finished she packed it into the ship before walking down and hugging her furry friend Ricter. Who could say no to that adorable looking face?
She picked up the weasel, stared at him with an intense stare before hugging him and nuzzling his nose, "I won't, if anything happens I'll try to contact you. If that doesn't work I'll get the one of the Workers or Nola to run to get help and protect whom I can. As I said... failing isn't an option, I have to do this for us...." She was placing all the weight on her shoulders, she wanted this... A lot, almost like... an obsession? Yes, that's what it appeared to be. Her whole life was ripped away, all she knew... She had one goal, to save everyone and reunite her family. This new obsession was her new reason to live, possibly because all she live for was an obsession before. Once Ricter was done saying anything else she'd walk off with a wave, putting her hair up in a pony tail. She would start the engine of her ship through her magic, leaving the door open so she could sit outside her floating laboratory. The entire group at the gate would see the shadow of the hovercraft above them, though flying low enough that Kokonoe was clearly seen sitting out of the door, the twins looking out to offer a wave.
"Are we ready to head out Nola?" She yelled down so she could be heard by the group, "All our settings are ready to go!" Kokonoe knew the ships full speed was way faster than any of them, but she'd float behind the Formica no matter how slow they went... She couldn't place her finger on it, but she had a very bad feeling over something.
