Okay, so I have two concepts for a Dante’s Abyss this year.
Concept 1 is just an updated variant of last year’s event (get an Item, move around the island, engage in F2Fs, etc.), in which people are dropped onto an island and forced to survive/fight to the death. All the NPCs and a portion of the island will be ‘Unmaking’-themed. The in-character logic behind these design choices is Karl’s on-going efforts to study the effects that the corruption/unmaking process has, both on individuals and landscapes (plus he can make money off of it? Genius). In terms of mechanical changes, I’ll like to incorporate some more ‘Weapon/Support Item’ effects that stray from the norm, because I did get a kick out of some of the features Adam had in his death contest. I also – in a first for me – already have the map selected. It’s highly unorthodox relative to my prior selections (there are no mountains, Jeff, you can calm yourself), and I intend to incorporate many more random effects and will likely tweak some end-game mechanics so we don't get that long lull we had last year when we just had a few OOC days of people turtlin'.
Concept 2 will have all entrants divided into 2 separate armies and pit them against a third NPC faction comprised of – you guessed it – Unmaking-themed soldiers and a leader. In this event, I would pick the initial leaders of each faction (I would purposefully prefer people with diametrically opposed personalities and outlooks on life), and the goal is for one Army to conquer the other two. Just like with the other Concept, this one would feature a map and movement, albeit in a more relaxed sense. The leader of each Army will be able to make PCs or NPCs into lieutenants who can move troops around and even build fortifications. Some PCs would/could just be soldiers or spies. Unlike Concept 1, fights (pitched battles or smaller skirmishes) would be written by the involved participants, and I would pop in at the end to write only the resolution. Obviously, there is more to be had with this concept, but I’m not going to take the time to solidify/write up pages of logistics if this isn’t the event (y’now?).
This public, non-legally binding disclosure has been notarized by Ronald Syntech, Esq.
You can ask questions here (jesus christ what is an OOC forum) or use the #salt-mines in the discord. I can refuse to answer questions if I think answering might spoil something.
