Rick is a Cocky Fighter

With the kind of background he has, it is no surprise he feels he can tackle everything. He will over rely on his skills and talents, even if they don't apply to the situation. However, he's not dumb, and if it feels like a harsh fight, he will retreat and analyze what he can do, what he can't do, as well as the enemy's abilities, to see if he can find an opening or an advantage. He finds no shame in running, and will preserve his life, even if moments ago he bragged about his skills.

Character History:

Rick always enjoyed racing. One time, he was about to start a race with his friends, and asked a man nearby to give them a start. The man told Rick to not switch gears too early, which led to Rick winning the race. That man was Don Wei, a renowned racing manager, who had recently retired, but went back to it with Rick as his newest pilot. Rick won every race after that, winning the Earth Grand Prix three years in a row. Later, after a disagreement with Don Wei, he decided to leave Wei Racing. He did not leave racing itself, winning the minor leagues the following year, but he never won the Grand Prix again.

Then, Don Wei was tasked with managing a racing team to represent the Earth in the Oban competition, and he chose Rick as their original pilot. However, on their first race, their star racer was sabotaged, turning it into an accident, leaving Rick out of commission for a while. When he came back, he started to notice that his body did not respond well to driving, shutting down when their ship reached high speeds. He kept this as a secret, and went ahead to drive for their next race. His sickness flared up again, and if it wasn't for the help of Molly (a girl who had sneaked into the ship that flew them to the planet for the races) he would've lost the race.

They did some studies on Rick, and discovered his accident caused a brain injury, which made his body react negatively to stress. The doctor said he wouldn't be able to race again. Rick took the news with anger, but eventually, he accepted it.

Later, Don Wei asked Rick to coach Molly, who took Rick's place as the Earth team's pilot. Rick trained her and taught her all he knew, which led to the Earth team qualifying for the final races in the planet Oban. However, Rick decided to go back to Earth, not accompanying the team to their next destination.

That ship never landed on Earth though, taking Rick to Cevanti instead.
