User name: Corona Xrephnia

Have you read the rules? Yes

Character Name: Corona Xrephnia

Character Source: OC, Final Fantasy XIV universe

Starting Location: Inverxe

Physical Tendencies:
Power (P): 15

Corona doesn’t go out of her way to exercise brute force, mostly due to her physique allowing her strength to come naturally in whatever she’s trying to accomplish.

Toughness (T): 15
The assassin prefers to avoid hits as opposed to taking them. Washing blood out of her tunic is a real hassle! That being said, she is equipped with protection under her tunic for when she can’t help but take blows.

Quickness (Q): 35
Corona heavily relies on her nimbleness during combat, often taking it upon herself to quickly slip behind enemy lines or right into an adversary’s blind spot during more personal encounters by hiding or casting Shukuchi.

Skill (S): 35
An assassin without finesse is little more than a blundering fool who found their way into the cutlery drawer. Corona is well aware of this and opts to employ numerous techniques to not only outwit but overpower her opponents.

Personality Tendencies:
Aggression (A): 10

Corona has learned to keep a level head, especially with her position as an instructor. Such patience is required both in the barracks and out on the water. That being said, she does have a tendency to get a bit frustrated if things don’t go as planned, but she doesn’t let that deter her from getting things done!

Cunning (C): 40
To Corona, playing a tense situation like a game of strategy is just par for the course. Exploring any possible scenario is nearly a necessity to ensure the smoothest (or in some cases, the most entertaining) outcome.

Diplomacy (D): 40
Corona is known for having quite the silver tongue when she doesn’t let her blades speak for her. The woman will try to talk her way out of sticky situations whenever possible if it means avoiding conflict or any other negative consequences.

Support (S): 10
In Corona’s line of work she’s used to operating alone. As one might expect, bounding around an enemy ship with an entire squadron would surely turn some heads. Despite her solitary tactics, however, she certainly doesn’t mind company otherwise! Not only is having friends around a plus overall, but she has much to gain from blending into the crowd...

Physical Description:

Corona stands at the taller end of average female Roegadyn height at a towering 7'3. clocking in at around 230 pounds. Her hair is a very dark brown and her eyes are as deep blue as the sea she sails on, with two vertical scars over both. In terms of cosmetics she dons a pair of earrings and a couple of crimson stars tattooed under left eye. Her attire sports the Maelstrom colors of red and black, dressed in a tunic with a single steel pauldron and a wide-brimmed hat. She also sports a pair of black greaves to protect her legs.

Character History:

Birthed into the Hellsguard clan of the Roegadyn race, Silent Corona was born in the wealthy city-state of Ul’dah to a pair of sellswords, a profession common with Hellsguard members. Her parents had met on the job, sharing a few drinks together at the local tavern one night. Calling the girl’s conception a mistake wouldn’t be entirely correct, but neither of them could deny the fact that several mugs of ale were a deciding factor for the way things went that evening.

Due to the couple’s line of work, it quickly became evident that the two were unfit to raise the child, unless they were content with bringing an infant into the rather grisly world of mercenary work. Needless to say, this wasn’t the case, and Corona was taken in by a Hyur woman from the La Noscea port of Limsa Lominsa, a neighboring city-state across the Rhotano Sea.

It was here that Silent Corona’s life truly began. Her adoption impacted the rest of her life even at a mere few weeks old! For starters, her foster mother saw fit to change the girl’s name to something that strayed from the typical Hellsguard convention of naming children based on the sights and sounds of nature, complete with adjectives. Instead, she insisted on referring to the girl under her new family’s surname, naming her Corona Xrephnia.

Aside from her rather unique name and unconventional beginnings, Corona had a generally unremarkable upbringing, living out her life as any Limsa-born girl would. Given that she resided in a port town, most of her late teenage years were spent fishing and learning to sail. As she crept into adulthood, she would eventually set her sights on the city-state’s naval Grand Company, the Maelstrom. Serving under the Thalassocratic Navy, the Maelstrom would operate in open waters, upholding maritime law and serving in times of war, specializing in naval combat.

Such an endeavor gave the girl a purpose, something she had long since been seeking in an otherwise uneventful life! Corona was recruited at age eighteen, steadily working up the ranks for nearly an entire decade. When she wasn’t out on the water putting pirates in their place, she could instead be found in the Maelstrom barracks, working as an instructor for new recruits who had hoped to join the Grand Company’s ranks! Her years of active service would eventually earn the woman the title of Storm Captain, one of the most prestigious ranks offered to only the most loyal of company members.

Sure, the woman could command fleets and sail ships, but she particularly excelled in the arts of stealth and close-ranged combat. Equipped with a pair of daggers, Corona specialized in quick, discreet business while still proving to be quite the adversary in proper battle. Given her physique, one would be hard-pressed to find any of her crew members who could call her the sneakiest, quietest woman you’d never see, but the Corona had ways of performing her duties in plain sight, even if it meant playing dirty!

However, on one fateful day, life as she knew it would quickly come to change forever. During one of her instructing sessions she was stricken with a sudden headache capable of bringing even the strongest to the floor, and she was no exception to this! As she collapsed, the last thing she could recall was her group of trainees rushing to her side in a futile attempt to come to her aid while she lost consciousness. After waking up what felt like mere seconds later, Corona would find herself in uncharted waters, the Crossroads.

Abilities/Skills:

Sea Cutters [300]

Damage 3 (300)

Corona’s signature melee weapons, a pair of folding blades she mainly holds in an icepick grip. Both of the blades are shaped like rather shallow axes, their crimson red steel folding for ease of sheathing. Despite their rather unique design and use, they closely resemble the daggers of an experienced rogue.

Still, Corona’s rather imposing size and strength make these blades outlandishly damaging, akin to the strikes of a sword more than small hand-axes or daggers.

Armor [400]
Protection 2 (200)
--Ongoing (200)

In order to make sure that the correct blades are entering the correct bodies, Corona takes precautions to guarantee that standard weapons that find their mark on the assassin's form aren't as dangerous as they would be otherwise. The woman's tunic is draped over a fitted gambeson that secures her upper half, while her legs are guarded by a pair of steel greaves. Her outfit also features a lone steel pauldron, however this is mostly a cosmetic choice than anything else, even if it has been known to deflect a few loose blades from time to time.

Shukuchi [750]
Teleport 3 (900)
--Finite (-150)

With a snap of her fingers, Corona can disappear in a puff of smoke and appear within 40 feet away from her original location in a near instant. Wherever she plans on going must be within her line of sight and completely accessible by normal means. This is not a teleportation and more of a means of moving extremely quickly, so she cannot complete the action if her legs are bound or she is otherwise incapable of movement. After a single use, Corona must enter a state of brief yet intense meditation before she's able to perform this ability again.

Hide [400]
Concealment (Sight) 2 & (Sound) 1 (300)
--Ongoing (200)
--Limited (Slow, Can't Attack) (-100)

Corona can vanish seemingly into thin air, allowing her to sneak around undetected. Given that her footfalls are quite heavy, someone with more acute hearing could easily determine her location in an otherwise quiet environment. For this reason she has to move quite slowly while hidden, at a normal walking pace. If she moves any faster she will begin to quickly become noticeable once more. Furthermore, any form of attacking will give away her position, if not due to her sudden swinging movements, then from the scream that would inevitably come soon after.

Hi there, welcome to Multerra.
Your application mostly looks great, but there are just a few things which I'd like to bring up before approving it.

First
I just want to make sure you realise that the Physical Tendencies relate purely to her fighting style, and are not replacements for actual Abilities. I say this because you mention her having padded armour plus greaves and a pauldron, yet have not bought a Protection Ability, and you also mention her being quick and skilful, yet haven't purchased Speed or Agility.
Of course, the reason for that could simply be because of a limited amount of starting Essence, but I'd recommend getting those things as soon as you can afford them.

Second
Your Abilities have been written using the old format, which we don't really recommend anymore, as it isn't as compact as it could be. Here is how your "Hide" Ability could be written in the new format:

Hide [400]
Concealment (Sight) 2 & (Sound) 1 (300)
--Ongoing (200)
--Limited (Slow, Can't Attack) (-100)

As you can see, this takes up considerably less space. You may also notice that I have changed a few things:
• I combined the two Concealment Effects into one line. If you're sharing Modifiers (which there's no reason not to in this case), you should really display them like this to make that clear.
• I removed the mention of ranks from your Modifiers, as those are always based on the rank of the Effect they modify (in the case of Sense & Concealment Effects which cover multiple senses, use the highest rank among them).
• I combined the two Limited Modifiers, as identical Modifiers don't stack. You can have as many limitations as you like, but only the first saves you Essence.

Third
Currently, your Chocobo can only run quickly for a few seconds at a time. I would recommend adding an Ongoing Modifier to its Speed Effect as soon as you can afford it.

Fourth
As I've said that Hide will have to cost more than you originally planned for, and have advised spending more on Chocobo as well, I'll now offer a suggestion which may help you afford that:
If you were to replace the 60-second cooldown on Shukuchi (which doesn't qualify it for any cost reductions) with Finite, then you could save 50 Essence per rank (150 in total). In order to qualify for Finite, she would have to spend a "narratively significant" amount of time (e.g. several seconds) focusing solely on recharging Shukuchi between each use (think of it like reloading a single-shot gun after each shot). That might be inconvenient in some cases (which is the reason it saves you Essence), but it could still end up making the Ability more spammable than it is currently.

Anyway, with the exception of my second point, these are really all just suggestions to keep in mind. So as soon as you replace the version of Hide in your application with the new one I've written up (and make any other changes you'd like to), we can get you approved.

I adjusted my ability formatting accordingly and implemented a few of your suggestions, along with a couple of other changes. Let me know if this works, thanks!

(She'll find herself a new chocobo whistle someday.)

Just a friendly reminder that you can have a Chocobo mount just for story purposes. Beatrix and Seventeen had mounts on Erde Nona and it was just for the story.

Everything here looks good now, so you're approved. You can post in Character Profiles and start writing whenever you'd like.

---

As for what Joe (Beatrix III) said: yes, you can choose to have a mount without buying it as a Summon.

To put it simply, there are three basic types of NPCs (which players can use) in Multerra: Summons, Minions & free NPCs.

• Summons cost Essence and can always be used in any situation in which your character is involved.
• Minions cost Coin and are generally considered disposable cannon fodder. They are usually banned from use in PvP and site events.
• Free NPCs don't cost anything, and most often will just be random citizens whom your character runs into. They can't take part in PvP and events.

Basically, if you just want a chocobo to ride around on in your personal writing, you can have that for free. But if you want it to be a more integral part of your character (and to provide you with an advantage in PvP/events) then it is recommended that you purchase it when you can afford to do so.
