Cynical Wildcard
Spider is Cynical. A bitter journalist who has seen the worst of the world and come out the other side with some small shred of idealism locked away in his heart. He doesn't trust most people to do the right thing, because most poor schlubs just want tomorrow to be exactly like today. It takes people like him to shoulder the burden of Truth and he can only throw what he finds to the masses like pearls before swine.
A Wildcard, Spider will use every trick in the book to get to the Truth. This includes physical violence, piercing questions, strange behavior, massive amounts of drugs, or something called a Bowel Disruptor. You can never be sure how he will approach any situation, since he's capable of both extreme violence and heart-wrenching empathy (usually towards kids).
Physical Description:
Spider is completely hairless (due to an accident with a shower-unit) and is covered in various tattoos, most prominently being the one on his forehead. They're also usually visible due to his penchant for exhibitionism (either during drug binges or simply because he was too lazy to put on pants). When he is clothed, he typically wears a simple black suit and no shirt. He almost always wears an iconic pair of glasses that were designed by a Maker Machine (that was also on drugs).
Character History:
Spider Jerusalem is from Earth's far far future, having worked as a journalist and famous political columnist. He achieved fame by writing several books on the presidential election, and having achieved fame, retired to a secluded life on the Mountain near The City. However, still contracted for two more books, he is forced to return to the bright, noisy City and begin writing once more. Covering all sorts of subjects from Alien Transient Riots to the next presidential election, Spider accidentally gets a psychopath put in the White House and makes it his mission to right this wrong.
During the course of defeating the new President (known as the Smiler), he contracts a rare infection from nano-pollen, which will slowly kill him through neural degeneration. Fighting the Smiler and getting him exposed as the monster he is, Spider returns to his retirement once more and hides the fact that he is in the 5% of people who go into remission from the I-Pollen infection, securing his peaceful solitude.
With the arrival of Darkseid to the Crossroads, it appears Spider was swept up in the release of multiversal energies, and is transported to Opealeon, where he made his name somewhat recognizable once more by covering the Nausicaa incident, and focusing columns and investigations on the tyrannical rule of Comstock and Andrew Ryan....

Spider's shades are high tech, able to serve as a reliable and covert telecommunications device. They can take pictures, video, record audio, and link with nearby technology to display the things stored in their memory on screens and viewports.

Bowel Disruptor
Exactly what it sounds like. This is a futuristic, non-lethal weapon that is illegal in the City. It has variable settings from "loose" to "watery" to "prolapse", but the effect is mostly the same: having an immediate and painful bowel movement. The effects of evacuating your bowels are technically non-damaging, but dealing with the aftermath is sure to throw anyone off their game.
