Rodan is an Incendiary Agitator.

Perhaps a side effect of being isolated from members of his own kind for so long, Rodan is individualistic, stubborn, and ferociously resistant to authority at every turn. While he is ordinarily content to observe the world around him from his lofty perch, this illusion of indolence goes up in flames whenever his territorial claim is challenged. If defeated and forced to kow-tow to an enemy, Rodan will keep them within his sights, keenly watching for any signs of weakness to exploit. Acting the role of a sycophant does not come naturally to Rodan; it would be a hefty task to earn his loyalty, and probably require incapacitating him first. He is seditious, rebellious, and subversive- in other words, perfectly willing to start some fires if it means getting what he wants.

Rodan is an intelligent fighter, usually relying on his flight and agility to overpower lesser foes. Any other being taking to the air is a personal affront, a direct challenge to his aerial supremacy. Like any other large bird of prey, Rodan will fiercely defend what he identifies as "his," a few examples being airspace, his volcanic home, or potential mates. This territorial attitude can land him in a lot of trouble, however, often overriding what little pragmatism he has. He will hurl himself at greater enemies, only giving up the ghost when he physically cannot fight any longer. His aggressive behavior is comparable to a drunken fool wanting to start a fight in a bar, willing to tussle with anyone, big or small.

PHYSICAL DESCRIPTION:

Rodan's current form can pass for an ordinary human, at least in silhouette. He is bipedal and walks upright, standing at about 6'9" ft tall, with a shock of reddish-brown hair curling up from the top of his head. His hair has a vaguely flame-like shape, with the distinct impression of horns curling up from the base of his skull and a long, whip-like ponytail trailing down his spine. His body is feverishly hot at all times, an impression that is reinforced by his tanned brown skin, unnaturally chiselled musculature and fiery yellow eyes-- his pupils actually fluctuate and flicker with his moods, dancing like twin embers in the darkness. His skin seems to be textured almost akin to rock, with fine seams splitting across his body to reveal molten fire beneath. He has vaguely paw-like, five-fingered hands and his ears are pointed like an elf's. His voice sounds like crackling flames, a faint scent of brimstone following him wherever he goes.

The clothing that Rodan wears is form-fitting and accommodates his vanity rather well. Spiked crimson armor curves around the meat of his legs, composed of a leathery, almost chitinous material, not unlike a jagged crustacean's exoskeleton. Layered beneath is a smooth material that clings tightly to his torso, colored a dark brown and accentuating his slender shape. He wears a crimson fabric covering with a loose cowl over this skintight armor, the fabric piling up defensively around his throat and often obscuring his face. A massive red cape hangs down from the collar of this shirt, attached to the sleeves covering his arms. With his arms fully extended, Rodan can give off the impression of vibrant, fiery wings. A metallic tiara made of burnished red metal sits upon his brow, a flame-shaped fire opal as its centerpiece. Feathery protrusions dangle from about shin-height, clearly decorative in nature.

Perhaps his most defining trait other than his affinity for flight, Rodan is able to withstand the highest of temperatures with little issue, even casually bathing in magma from time to time. He is also resistant to the cold and radioactivity, possessing a blisteringly high internal body temperature that usually overcomes such dangerous environmental factors.

Rodan is a kaiju, one of the last remaining members of the Titanus Rodan species and perhaps an endling of that species in the Crossroads. Even with his diminished scale, he is capable of flying up to 105 miles per hour/169 kilometers per hour after 10 seconds of building up speed. He is capable of incredible agility in the air and while on land, showcased by his knack for graceful movement and avoiding attacks. Due to his enduring indolence, however, Rodan tires relatively easily.

Rodan possesses an internal volcanic combustion system, causing him to radiate heat, the temperature of which can reach up to 1200°C. As a result, Rodan's external body temperature is life-threateningly hot upon close contact, scorching across the skin of allies and foes alike that make contact with his body. It is a permanent part of his biology and cannot be disabled. It also greatly diminishes Rodan’s ability to interact with his environment or handle/examine small-scale objects, as they will immediately char or burn to ash in his grasp.

TIPS FOR WRITING RODAN:​

Personality – Rodan is a jerk with a heart of gold. His personality is the ultimate dichotomy between his hyper-aggression and his loyalty to those he holds dear. He is very motivated by family, so much so that some might consider him a romantic. He is honorable, and in a way deeply emotional, when it comes to matters of kinship and brotherhood. The ultimate source of fulfillment for Rodan would be a familial connection, a concept which he is almost obsessively idealistic about. In short, developing meaningful connections is important to him, and he might empathize with others who hold similar feelings.

On the other hand, Rodan longs for a family because it is a distant and nigh unattainable idea, seeing as he is the last of his species. This realization has left him with feelings of abandonment and great melancholy. As such, he is emotionally intense, overly expressive, and gives off an air of deep dissatisfaction with the universe. He has a very flippant "bitch, did you look at me?" attitude toward strangers, and can be overall moody and self-absorbed. He is almost aggressively authentic and will not keep any hard feelings a secret. It is perhaps this authenticity that defines Rodan's character best-- he will always be true to himself, regardless of any outside pressures pushing him to act otherwise.

Possible Reactions – If confronted by multiple aggressive persons, Rodan will absolutely fight them all. He has a chip on his shoulder, he's got something to prove. He cannot be swayed from a fight unless he has good enough motivation to stop; DEATH IS NOT GOOD ENOUGH. THIS RIDE ONLY STOPS IN AN EMERGENCY. CRYING IS NOT AN EMERGENCY. When faced with a creature that clearly wishes him ill, Rodan will come at them with an overwhelming amount of obnoxious bravado, almost daring them to fight him. His attitude towards other, non-aggressive persons depends on who the person is. If he considers you "kin" or part of his group, he will die for you. Other than that, Rodan is generally prickly/a rude punk.

‘Combat’ Style – Despite being the type to hurl himself at foes 10x bigger than himself with reckless abandon, Rodan generally relies on his speed and guile when engaged in combat. He tends to take flight and circle his foes, darting in to attack with his super-heated body and claws. He largely depends on his maneuverability in the air to keep himself free from harm. He will also attempt to use his environment to his advantage, either as cover or as a way to deal further damage to his opponents (causing a terrible rock slide, for example). Getting caught and "pinned" spells bad news for him-- and his attacker, in most cases, because Rodan will almost certainly fight like hell to free himself! He will also fiercely defend those he considers allies, even fighting to the death for them (especially if he has decided that they are KIN/FAMILY).

Body Language Tips –

When writing Rodan, you should rely on body language over most verbal communication. For the purposes of this guide, you can assume that when in his humanoid form, Rodan’s hair functions much the same as feathers would. When in his Titan form, his feathers are hidden under several layers of geothermal armor, so the notes about that may not be very relevant in such cases.

• Curiosity: Head tilting, slow blinking, guttural clicks and growls, query "purrs."
• Comfortable: His feathers/hair will be loose or poofy, he might tuck one foot up under his body (balancing on one leg), rousing (shaking feathers/body), he’ll wiggle around a lot, preening (tidying up his hair), gruff/husky clicking and growling, purring and “chirps.”
• Affection: Grooming, sharing food and other resources, reclining beside the object of his affection, "singing."
• Aggression: Hackles (feathers or tufts of hair on back of neck) raised, head dipped in an attack position, wings or arms held out to make himself appear larger, one shoulder dipped, diving at foes while in flight, slapping foes with his wings, low hissing sound that reverberates off the tongue, loud roaring/cackling vocalization.
• Possessiveness: Mantling (wings or arms held out, feathers fanned), frequent side glances, looking over his shoulder at others, strutting to impress.
• Alert: Frozen, lack of preening, standing tall, steadily observing with one eye.
• Nervousness: Feathers or hair held tight/slicked against body, neck elongated, eyes wide, standing higher on legs to appear taller/perceive threats better, wings or arms slightly out (ready to fly away), shifting weight, rapid glances, beak held slightly open as if to pant, eyes darting as if searching for an escape route.
• Fear: Mouth open/panting, wings held out, feathers raised, increased respiratory rate, frequent sharp vocalizing, clacking of beak or teeth, picking at his own limbs, crouching and quivering wings as if ready to take flight.
• Cornered: Lunging in response to a threat, biting, kicking and attempting to spur with his feet, beating/slapping at objects with his wings/arms, panicked vocalizations (especially when restrained), tightly grasping at threatening objects with his hands or foot talons.
• Grief: Shutting down emotionally, listless behavior, drooping posture, calling for lost ones, sometimes actually looking around and searching for lost ones.
• Sadness: Irritability, aggression, fluffed-up feathers/hair to showcase distress, plucking at self to the point of drawing blood.

Dialogue Tips –

Rodan cannot properly speak the common tongue of the Crossroads, instead speaking in a language that sounds like a weird mixture between Draconic, bird sounds, and crackling flames. The few words of the common language that he does speak, he almost definitely trills his Rs. Other kaiju will probably understand him perfectly, regardless.
