Character History:

He grew up in Texas with his older brother, Dirk Strider. they lived in an apartment at the very top of a building smack dab in the wicked up-ins of the city. Dirk was an inspiration to dave, the reason why he harboured a love for shades, swords, and irony. They often strifed on the rooftop to hone Dave's skill, 10 times out of 10, Dirk would kick Dave's ass and ninja disappear into the shadows but they were bonding.

What starting Affinity does your character have? Exceptional

Abilities/Skills:

swordsmanship and charisma, he can also do mediocre parkour if need be.

Hey there! Super rad to see a Homestuck fan around, used to write a few of those characters myself! Anyway, just a few minor changes I’d like to suggest for your app before it can be approved.

This one isn’t too much of a big deal, but for Character Behavior, we follow a two-word identifier format. You can read more about these here, and here’s an example from my own character’s profile:

“Arthur Morgan is an Honorable Outlaw. Arthur may be a man with few qualms about killing, but he doesn't kill without a good reason, especially if his actions have the potential to endanger those he is close to. As an outlaw, he is confident in his ability to intimidate and bully his way through tough scrapes; he is physically imposing and no stranger to duels, knife-fights, and drunken brawls.”

You basically design a kind of “title” for your character with one word focusing on their personality and the other on how they behave in combat. Then you describe what those words mean a little. What you’ve written here is fine for the personality part, you could probably tack on a little blurb about Dave’s main weaponry being swords and then call him an Ironic Knight or something similar.

Alright, this next part’s a little more important! Your Character History doesn’t make any mention of how Dave came to be in our forum’s setting, the Crossroads. An inter-dimensional rift? Just woke up here one day? The choice is yours, just give use a short mention in your history of how he appeared on Cevanti.

Finally, on to your Abilities. As you can see from looking at a few other character profiles on the forum, Abilities are basically what your character can “do” and need to be written a certain way. You can change the format a little bit, but all Abilities follow the same basic schematic: Effects (what the ability lets your character do) and modifiers (specific traits of those Effects).

Here’s an example:

Hunting Knife
Damage Rank 2 (200E)
-- Removable (-100E)
Total Cost: 100E

An all-purpose Bowie knife with a sharp clip-point blade, steel crossguard, and sturdy wooden handle. Designed for combat, this weapon can give the edge to any close-quarters melee fight, or be used for silent takedowns. It is also the perfect weapon for killing and skinning animals. Can be knocked from Arthur's grip by a particularly well-timed blow.

Damage is the Effect in this case, since a knife can stab someone. This Damage Effect’s Rank is 2, as well, meaning it’s a little more effective. Since adding Damage Rank 1 to your ability costs 100 Essence, to make it Rank 2 we just multiply that cost by two. Now the Ability costs 200E overall.

But that seems pretty expensive for a little knife. So, I added the Removable modifier.

Keep in mind that there are positive modifiers and negative modifiers. Positive modifiers add to the cost of your Ability, letting them be Ranged (guns, bows, throwing knives, lasers), Transferable to allies, and other things. Negative modifiers subtract from the overall cost of your Ability and are things like Activation times, Finite ammo, Removable weapons. A full list of these is viewable on the Ability Rules Page, linked below.

By making my Ability Removable (Arthur can be disarmed), that lets me take off -50E per Rank of the Effect I’m applying it to. Thus, -50E x 2 = -100E. I subtract 100E from 200, and the overall cost of this ability is a decent 100E.

Okay, looks good so far! Thanks for making those changes, we’ve just got one more thing to look at. It seems like for Shitty Ninja Sword that you wrote the Ranged and Removable modifiers as +250 and -250, respectively. Since your Damage Effect is rank 1, though, these would just be +50 and -50.

Also, keep in mind that only weapons that reach beyond 10 ft will need the Ranged modifier, so you don’t need to buy that unless you really want the sword to reach beyond 10 ft.

Also also, Agility at Rank 1 costs 200E!
