There's been a lot of Pokechatter around the Discordmon recently, and it got me to thinking that our system does probably allow for a pokemon trainer/pokeball mechanic using our existing systems. It's been said in the past that things are just a bit too clumsy for it, and while I agree that...
...doing faithful pokemon battles would be VERY EXPENSIVE and VERY COMPLICATED I think the template below would probably...work for the basic dynamic of Magical Monster Friends Thrown from Portable Cages.
This is just a rough sketch including the pokemon's basic physiology and moveset without going into full move rhetoric, and I'm also maxxing out Pikachu's ranks which adds a lot of cost...But it's fair to say that any pokemon trainer character is going to have to keep their Essence dedicated to this stuff. This sample template tips the scales at nearly 8,000 essence for just one decently leveled and functional pikachu.
Go, Pikachu!
Summon 1 (+300)
+ Ranged (+50)
+ Indirect (+100)
+ Transferable (+50)
- Removable (-50)
Pikachu is kept in his Pokeball, a small red and white capsule, that can be thrown up to about twenty feet away and over obstacles such as low walls or through windows. If Pikachu's pokeball is taken from his trainer, he cannot get out on his own. Alternatively, Pikachu might be willing to listen to the trainer's allies temporarily, if need be.
