Character Name: Grimlock

Source: Transformers Canon

Spent Essence: 2000

Character Behavior
Strong-Willed Juggernaut

Grimlock’s mind has lost much of its intricacy after Shockwave’s tampering. As a result, he is obstinate and single-minded. His tenacious attitude binds him to his word, producing a stubborn but loyal personality. He has no patience for weakness, but he also despises those that abuse their power, making him often err on the side of good despite his brutish approach to life.

Grimlock fights the same way he negotiates: with unspeakable physical violence. He throws himself whole-heartedly into the midst of combat and uses his size and strength to toss around anyone smaller than him. The truest thrill comes from locking horns with the biggest opponent on the battlefield and wrestling them into submission. Grimlock is the strongest and he'll prove it if he has to.

Physical Description:

Grimlock is a massive, hulking war machine. He towers over his enemies at approximately 20 feet tall and weighs upwards of 5 tons. His grey and yellow chassis is cut with sections of glowing red lights, the most iconic of which is the Autobot logo on his chest.

Character History:

Grimlock was always a fighter. On his home planet of Cybertron, his size and ferocity made him a daunting opponent and he used this to his advantage in the gladiatorial pits of Kaon. When a brutal civil war broke out between the Autobot and Decepticon factions, Grimlock carved out his own pound of scrap and formed the Lightning Strike Coalition. As a sub-faction of Autobots, Grimlock and his teammates took on the most demanding and impossible missions. Their success earned them a fearsome reputation among their enemies and Grimlock’s lack of patience earned him an equally fearsome reputation among his allies.

Despite his respect for Optimus Prime, the de facto leader of the Autobots later in the war, Grimlock could not get behind his long-term planning. Whereas Prime wanted to systematically and strategically dismantle Decepticon operations through ambitious but thorough battle plans, Grimlock was of the mind that blitz tactics and brute force was the only way to shatter their enemies. As a result, Grimlock would seek out the most intense missions, often dismissing Optimus’ orders in favor of his own.

This tenacity won many battles, but it also eventually cost him his freedom. After interrogating a Decepticon soldier about their faction’s seemingly endless supply of Energon for weapons and gear, Grimlock deployed his teammate and good friend Swoop to the Sea of Rust. Swoop's mission was to investigate the soldier’s claims of a Decepticon refinery built around a new Energon Wellspring hidden deep in the oxidized ruins of the Sea. Optimus Prime ordered a full retreat from Grimlock and his team to preserve resources, but when Swoop did not return from his mission, Grimlock refused to leave and gathered the Coalition to find their teammate. He quickly discovered that Swoop had been captured by the Decepticons so he set out to rescue his friend.

Much to the Coalition’s surprise, it was a trap. Shockwave, a Decepticon lieutenant and twisted scientist, captured Grimlock's team. Using the pain of the Autobot's captive Coalition as a distraction, The Decepticons were able to overwhelm Grimlock. Shockwave dismantled, studied, and rebuilt Grimlock and his team in the image of strange, primal creatures Shockwave had discovered on a distant planet in the hopes of creating new super weapons. It was torture to be unmade and remade over and over again, but Grimlock would not be so easily broken. He clung to his drive to rescue his teammates and the unyielding desire to tear Shockwave's Spark from his chest with his bare hands. Grimlock fought with every ounce of his strength to resist Shockwave’s attempts to mentally subjugate him. While he lost much of his ability to think and speak clearly, Grimlock did not lose his soul. After breaking free from his bonds and tearing through Shockwave’s laboratory to find his team, Grimlock hunted down and confronted Shockwave. The Decepticon scientist was defending a Space Bridge which connected Cybertron to a primitive planet rich with energy. Grimlock butchered his way through Shockwave's bodyguards until reaching the scientist. Much to the Autobot's frustration, Shockwave managed to restrain him. Incensed at being controlled against his will, Grimlock's rage allowed him to rip free and tear Shockwave's arm off. Through his hateful haze, Grimlock recognized the importance of the Space Bridge in front of him and tore the console apart, blocking the Decepticons from a potentially infinite source of energy and seemingly destroying himself in the ensuing explosion.

In truth, however, the Space Bridge worked in ways no Cybertronian could have expected. Transported to a new galaxy with new worlds and new populations, Grimlock is hard-pressed to discover his new place in The Crossroads.

Abilities/Skills:

Cybertronian Chassis
(Cost: 900)
Growth Rank 3 +600
Adaptation: Non-Biological Anatomy +300
Modifiers: Ongoing Rank 1 (Specialized) +0
Description: Grimlock’s titanic Cybertronian physiology renders him a walking tank. His robotic body is a collection of synthetic muscle, gyros, conversion cogs, and Energon pumps wound tight around a Spark encased in a heavy shell of dense armor. Something about his arrival in The Crossroads has weakened his defenses, but he remains a colossus. His heavy physique coupled with his great size make him particularly clumsy in worlds usually made for creatures much smaller than him. He runs on Energon, a unique resource that his body has inexplicably found a way to produce over time. This substance powers Grimlock’s core functions, as well as his weapons. Running out of Energon results in a full system failure, causing the Autobot to fall unconscious and enter a state of dormant self-repair. It takes a full 24 hours of recovery to regenerate a full reserve of Energon from empty.

Dino Mode (Cost: 900)
Shapeshifting Rank 1 (Single) +1000
Modifiers: Ongoing Rank 1 (Specialized) +0, Finite Rank 1 -50, Chaotic Rank 1 -50
Description: Grimlock can temporarily transform into a large beast akin to a Tyrannosaurus Rex when enraged. His body shifts and reconfigures, completely altering his form. His primal instincts take hold and dull his already limited ability to think clearly. This transformation is difficult to control and relies on Grimlock’s burgeoning temper. Grimlock cannot typically trigger this transformation willingly unless provoked and remaining in this mode for extended periods of time puts great strain on the Autobot's mind and body. When his rage fades or his Energon reserves are low, Grimlock is forced to revert to Robot Mode.

Flaming Torrent (Cost: 150)
Damage Rank 2 +200
Modifiers: Affects Multiple Rank 1 +50, Ranged Rank 1 +50, Ongoing Rank 1 (Specialized) +0, Indiscriminate Rank 1 -50, Limited Rank 1 -50, Finite Rank 1 -50
Description: In Dino Mode, Grimlock opens his jaws and unleashes an unchecked plume of flame in a cone. The superheated plasma consumes any creatures caught within a 15 foot range in front of Grimlock, dealing damage for as long as its sustained. This breath weapon can only be utilized in his alternate form, and it draws heavily from his Energon supply.

Energon Sword (Cost: 50)
Damage Rank 1 +100
Modifiers: Removable Rank 1 -50
Description: Grimlock carries with him a large Cybertronian sword, sheathed in plasma. Its superheated edge makes for a deadly weapon. It is approximately 10’ long from pommel to tip.
