Kolith is a tall, muscular man with pale blue eyes and brown hair. His beard fans out around his face down to his collar bones. The sides and back of his head are shaven and the top of his head is covered with short dreadlocks that hang sturdily from the back of his scalp. Blue tattoos of the Elder Spirits adorn his forehead, beneath his right eye, and on both biceps. He wears a dark navy cloth that hangs over his knees, tied at the waist with a white/grey sash, and black, tight fitting pants and boots. A faded red bear paw print is emblazoned on the dark navy cloth that hangs over his legs.

White-grey cloth wraps around his palms and forearms, while burnt orange forearm guards decorated with discarded predator claws sit atop them. A set of pristine wooden orbs on a string are slung around his right shoulder and loop around at his left hip. He wears a brown bear skin on his back, its head aimed upwards and sitting between Kolith's shoulder blades.

Benelovent Savage – A contrast. Kolith’s true nature is of a gentle, thoughtful, easy-going man. His desire to live peacefully with both humans and animals tends to steer him away from open confrontation for anything he perceives unworthy of it. This desire lends him to a laid back, relaxed disposition that often puts people at ease with his warm and friendly demeanour.

In battle, Kolith fights like a feral beast. When pushed to combat, he unleashes his pent up rage, lashing out like a predator. He is aggressive and pushes forward as much as he can. However, like an animal, if a battle is looking dicey, he has no problems with disengaging and/or escaping.

Kolith grew up in Erde Nona, the son of cattle farmers. Gentle and thoughtful, he spent his childhood and teenage years toiling on the farm, his naturally tall and thick limbed stature making him excellent at manual labour. His parents taught him of the balance of nature, and the importance of respecting and honouring both the cattle and the land they grazed upon.
Kolith had an innate understanding of the animals on the farm, from the cattle to the chickens that provided eggs to the working dogs that assisted with mustering. While he did not like that the cattle were to be killed for food, he understood the order of nature, and that consuming animals was not unique to humankind. Needless, cruel treatment of any animal was one of the few things that awoke a savage rage within Kolith.

His father was a kind man, fantastic at cultivating animals, but he was meek and timid. His mother enjoyed hunting and tracking animals, and Kolith absorbed this past time as well. They often tracked and observed a long lived bear, safely and from a distance, they named Old Bear.

Happy with this life, Kolith eventually inherited the family farm once his parents were too old to run it. His siblings left for Arcadia to seek riches and fame among the noble and learned; Kolith was sad to see them go, but his place was with the farm and wished them all well.

One day while tending the animals, a monstrous bear with violet eyes lunged into the farm and savagely slaughtered all of Kolith’s cattle, chicken and dogs. He desperately tried to fend it off with a pitchfork but the beast was in a frenzy. Running back to his house, he snatched up a bow and quiver, hunting knife and wood-chopping axe. Using the animal tracking skills he honed growing up, Kolith followed the bear, concerned that it might kill someone or something else. It also concerned him that the bear had left the dead animals and not eaten any of them.

Kolith tracked the bear to the Forbidden Grove, a large and supposedly cursed forest. Worried about the creatures inside and indifferent to superstition, he entered. Quickly getting lost, he equipped his axe as the violet eyed bear ambushed him. Kolith swung, missing the incredibly swift animal and lodging the axe into a tree. The bear advanced on him, but the axe-bitten tree fell on top of it, immobilising it.

Saddened by what he had to do, Kolith climbed upon its back and ended its life, realising that it was Old Bear. To honour the creature, Kolith skinned it and wore its fur on his back, and buried it.

Kolith moved on but could not find his way free of the forest. He noticed a bird following him, its eye glinting blue in the gloomy light that pierced the trees, and he decided to follow it.

Soon he uncovered a small ruin. At its centre stood a weathered pedestal wreathed in lichen. A bandolier of wooden orbs rested atop it, pristine and untouched by time. Once he seized the object, smooth and unblemished, his vision was flooded with blue light, and before him stood a luminous blue bear, enormous and translucent.

The bear explained that he was Old Bear, the last of the living Elder Beasts in Erde Nona, and that his true name was Gallo. He had been corrupted by the Unmade and lashed out in blind fury. He thanked Kolith for ending his suffering, and allowing him to join the Elder Beast Spirits, who also unveiled themselves to the human. They were Rokku, the Elder Avian Spirit, and Narri, the Elder Tiger Spirit.

Through observation of Kolith’s noble actions, they offered him to become the Elder Beast Spirit Vessel, a mortal conduit of the Spirits’ power to protect nature from those that would maliciously unsettle the balance. Having lost the farm and seeing a higher calling for his life, Kolith agreed.

Immediately he established his new home in the Forbidden Grove and began attunement of the Elder Beast Spirits and their powers. As Kolith grew proficient, they planned his next steps – protecting Erde Nona from the Unmade threat.

Kolith-Spirits.png
As the Elder Beast Spirit Vessel, Kolith can bond with an Elder Beast Spirit and receive its gifts, or unique superhuman abilities. Bonding with a Beast Spirit is instantaneous, as is switching to bond to another. Kolith can only bond one Beast Spirit at a time, and thus only access the gifts of that particular Beast Spirit. Using any spiritual abilities causes Kolith's eyes to glow blue and his irises take on a slightly whiter blue than the sclera. He cannot be forced to unbond with a Beast Spirit, unless he is knocked unconscious.

Depending on the Elder Beast Spirit he bonds with, there can also be other small physical changes to his body.

Rokku - his beard hair bristles and takes on a feathery appearance
Gallo - his canine teeth elongate
Narri - glowing bluish-white stripes appear up his arms

Elder Beast Spirits
The Elder Beast Spirits are the spirits of the Elder Beasts, creatures formed at the time of Erde Nona's creation and inextricably linked with its existence. In life they were far larger, stronger and faster than any of their kind, with sentience on par with or beyond humanity. Their unique stations gave them dominion over all other creatures of their family, who revered the Elder Beasts as monarchs. However while the Elder Beasts would not perish of old age, they were not immortal. They would eventually succumb to their mortality, but Erde Nona would not let them disappear. After death, they found their spirits had been bound to Erde Nona, to allow them eternal watch over the home they loved so dearly.

They would find a home in an enormous forest, eventually known to locals as the Forbidden Grove, as those who ventured in rarely left. They found after many centuries that while they could affect the physical plane in subtle ways, their immense spiritual power could not be brought to bear without a mortal conduit. Through Kolith, they can continue their endless vigil against the forces that would tear it asunder.

There are rumours there might be more Elder Beasts on Erde Nona, or possibly other planets too...

Rokku, the Elder Avian Spirit
Rokku is a nine foot tall wedge-tailed eagle. She is very logical and matter-of-fact, seeing situations with great wisdom but has little care for emotions and feelings. This can lead to her missing the overall picture, but of the three she has the greatest eye for detail. She is the unofficial leader of the Elder Beast Spirits.

Gallo, the Elder Bear Spirit
Gallo is a fifteen foot tall brown bear. He is the wisest of the three Elder Beasts, and far more attuned to emotion. Kolith has the strongest connection to Gallo, as he grew up watching the Elder Beast with rapture from a distance, and was also the one to end his life. Kolith affectionately calls Gallo 'Old Bear', the name he and his mother gave Gallo when they would track him.

Narri, the Elder Tiger Spirit
Narri is an eleven foot tall Bengal tiger. Her mind is geared towards stealth, and thus is a fantastic spymaster. She considers angles of sabotage and infiltration and has a sharp mind for weaknesses.

Elder Beast Gifts
Each Elder Beast grants Kolith specific boons when bonded with him. They are:

Rokku, the Elder Avian Spirit
Beast Spirit Wings
Beast Spirit Claws
Beast Spirit Grace
Beast Spirit Roar

Gallo, the Elder Bear Spirit

Multerra History

Kolith's basic training with the Elder Beast Spirits has ended, and they send him into Dante's Abyss 2022, designed to eliminate his self doubt and bolster his determination.

Kolith encounters Christine, Jester and Slurt, briefly allying with them while fighting off other contestants. In a battle with Caustic and Lillith, Kolith receives a chest wound that will not stop bleeding and blindness in his left eye. He continues on, eventually striking out on his own as he realises, manipulated by a mysterious voice, that they are not looking out for him. He allies with Sigmund Vrell, and they spend a short time together before the NicoFactor attacks, biting half of Kolith's head off, and ending his time there.

Kolith is resurrected, thanks to his status as the Elder Beast Vessel, and discusses his performance with the Spirits. He learns that he overcame his doubts and is ready to begin hunting the Unmade. After their meeting, the Elder Beasts speak about a new problem they withhold from Kolith, with a solution that does not sit well with Gallo...

After leaving the Forbidden Grove to begin his offensive against the Unmade, Kolith stops at a small town. He learns of an alehouse suffering from a supposed haunting, and decides to investigate...
