Character Name: Pecan

Character Source: Oc

Starting Location: Cevanti

Physical Tendencies:
Power(P): 50

Toughness(T): 20

Quickness(Q): 15

Skill(S): 15

Fighting Style - Pecan lives for mayhem and his fighting style reflects that. There are no allies and an explosion can never be too big. While not unskilled in any sense of the word Pecan’s aggressive and risky style lends itself better to wild haymakers than precision jabs. His survivability is not so much a factor of his physical durability, but rather it is his ridiculous luck that keeps him alive. This, combined with his maniacal lack of self-preservation, makes Pecan a tenacious and unpredictable foe.

Character History:

Who is Pecan? Don’t you think that’s kind of a rude question? Just asking a fella who he is? I suppose you wanna know all about my childhood and what defining moments led me to where I am today, right? Really you just wanna know why I killed all those people. Well, friend-o, since you asked so nicely.

There wasn’t one “defining moment” that made me into who I am today. That said, we can start on Mesa Roja. My parents owned a moisture farm all the way out in the middle of nowhere. We came from a long line of those “salt-of-the-earth” types. We’d wake up early, work hard, say grace, eat dinner, and do it all over again the next day. Day in and day out the same routine, broken only by our trips to a trading hub. I was, what, sixteen, when a band of raiders came along. Yeah paw had a shotgun and all, but trying stopping a drug-fueled mob of psychopaths with a single shot boomstick. Paw was the first one to go, they ripped him apart like a pack of wolves. Then mom. Then sis. Hell, they even ate our fucking dog. I only got away cause I hid in the floorboards, pissed myself and everything. The rest was history.

Course not a scrap of that is true. No, the truth is much simpler. One day a few years ago I sat down to eat at one of those foreign carry-out places. The kind of place that gives you a fortune cookie at the end of your meal? Know what that cookie said? “100 years good luck if you commit mass murder.” Yeah, you’re right, that’s ridiculous.

I mean what do you want me to say? Why did Picasso paint? Because he was good at it. Why did Pele’ play football? Because he was good at it. Why does Pecan kill people? Because, brother, I’m fuckin’ good at it.

Abilities/Skills:

Lucky Dog - 300

Protection 3 - 300
Modifiers: Ongoing (300), Chaotic (-150), Limited: Does not work against guaranteed hits (-150)

Pecan would have been dead years ago were it not for his incredible luck. Some cosmic force of fortune seems to protect the vagrant and because of that he has been able to avoid many attacks that would’ve left others dead. This can manifest itself as a near-hit like a bullet grazing him or something more esoteric like finding a lead-lined fridge to hide in against an explosion. Pecan’s body is no more durable than a regular human and his luck does occasionally run out. Additionally when faced with a scenario where it is impossible to avoid damage (such as a gun barrel held to his temple) the odds of his luck bailing him out drastically drop.

Scrap Grenade - 250

Damage 5 - 500
Modifiers: Affects Mutiple 3 (750), Ranged (250), Finite (-250), Chaotic (-250), Activation: 10 Seconds (-250), Removable (-250), Nondiscriminating (-250)

A vandal without explosives is like a shark with no teeth. Having lived on Mesa Roja for a large majority of his life Pecan learned how to cobble scrap together to make useful things. A favorite of his being the scrap bomb. Made from a clishmaclaver of sharp objects and explosives these bombs blanket an area in rending shrapnel. The fuse for these are either a mechanical spoon/pin system or an actual burning wick, whatever Pecan has at the time of construction. Once the fuse is activated there is a ten-fifteen second delay until detonation, during which Pecan can cook the grenade if needed. Those closest to the grenade may suffer burns as the grenade goes off, but its lethality lies in the myriad of shrapnel that explodes outwards. Pecan generally carries 6-7 of these bombs attached to his belt by way of quick release clips. Once used Pecan will have to cobble more together in a process that can take 30-60 minutes per bomb.

Zap Hand - 350

Damage 3 - 300
Modifiers: Finite (-150), Side Effect (-150)

Debuff 4 - 400
Modifiers: Finite (-200), Side Effect (-200)

Implanted just beneath the skin on Pecan’s left hand are several high-power electrodes. Using these electrodes Pecan can grab an opponent and send electricity into an opponent’s body. Once grabbed the target is locked in place as the electricity forces their muscles to contract. For the next ten seconds they are subject to a devastating wave of electricity. In an effort to make his zap hand more destructive Pecan removed most of the internal inhibitors which means that he suffers a portion of the shock. Although the power for the shock is generated naturally through his own metabolism this process still takes time and he must wait about twenty-four hours until he can use it again.

Revenant’s Breath - 350

Adaptation: Immune to Pain (200)
Modifiers: Activation: 30 seconds (-100)

Adaptation: Nonbiological Anatomy (300)
Modifiers: Activation: 30 seconds (-100)

Endurance 1 (100)
Modifiers: Activation: 30 seconds (-100)

Appearing as a small nebuliser attached to an oxygen mask, Revenant’s Breath naturally synthesizes a cocktail of chemicals using nothing more than air and water. Stolen from a military lab Pecan holds this mask as one of his prized possessions. Holding the mask tight over one’s airways and twisting the nebuliser activates the Revenant’s Breath. A rush of cool vapor fills the user’s lungs and is absorbed into their body. Once the mask is remove soft blue vapor escapes from all available airways and, with a strong enough hit, from the ears and eyes as well. After about thirty seconds all pain receptors in the user’s body are silenced. Essentially the user is turned into a living zombie, capable of shrugging off mortal wounds as if they were nothing. This effect lasts for a few hours.

R&K Cross - 150

Damage 3 - 300
Modifiers: Ranged (150), Chaotic (-150), Removable (-150), Finite (-150)

The Rendo and Kyra Cross is a machine pistol that has been heavily modified by Pecan. Sporting a 60 round magazine and a sawed-off barrel the Cross can dump its magazine in only a few seconds. This obscene rate of fire and the sawed-off barrel makes it an incredibly inaccurate weapon, more suited to blanket an area rather than precision shots. Due to the ammo-intensive nature of this weapon Pecan can only carry about 6-7 magazines at any given time.

Zap Hand is 500 Essence, as Modifiers cannot lower the cost of an Effect below 50 Essence
per rank. Side Effect is fine for the Debuff portion, but the Damage portion requires Feedback instead.

Revenants Breath will cost you 550 Essence. For the same reason as Zap Hand.

Finite is a Negative Modifier which would drop your R&K Cross to 0 Essence. Again, it will cost 250 because it cannot be cheaper than 50 Essence per Rank.

Adjust your Abilities and try again.

Zap Hand is still, via your Modifiers, priced at 0 Essence. My suggestion? Remove Finite. Then your math will even out.

Revenants Breath has a similar issue. Lower the Activation of Endurance to 10 seconds and you'll be straight (just say the energy boost kicks in first).

Your Cross is priced to be 0 Essence. Considering the number of mags you carry, and the obscene ammo capacity, remove Finite. You effectively have enough ammo to make it through any scene. Priced at 150 Essence, with that change.

Can I still keep the negative modifiers even though they're technically not lowering the cost? For flavor raisons?

You can have negative aspects to your Abilities without lowering the cost below the minimum, I suppose. As long as you're ok with that, just fix the prices of your Cross and Breath and you're good.
