* A BEANISH? THAT SOUNDS DELIGHTFUL! YOU'RE LIKE A HUMAN BUT MUCH SMALLER!

Ah, did he remember the times when he was nothing but a sentry guard working his way up the chain to becoming a royal guard! He and his lazy bones of a brother had toiled and toiled every day in an effort to capture a human-- to be truly honest, it was entirely Papyrus' work-- only for said human to be the one to free them all from the mountain! By that time, though, no royal reward could match the splendors of the surface. Now he could follow his dreams and cultivate his favorite pasttime: the art of puzzlecrafts! And cooking, of course. Spaghetti couldn't make itself!

He looked towards Kagami, who had gotten herself acquainted with Sumireko. He had only been slightly paying attention, but one thing did catch his ear-- did he have ears?-- and caused him to hop on over.

* OOOOOH! YOU CAN READ MINDS?! WHAT DOES MY MIND SAY? WHAT IS THE ENIGMA OF MY INNER MACHINATIONS???

He squatted down in front of her and just stared, waiting.

 

[Kagami]

How would Kagami go with this just to mess with Papyrus? After all, a brief look in Papyrus' thoughts and she saw spaghetti literally everywhere.

"Yeah." she sighed with a brief smile even though she doesn't want to do this. "Way to use your noodle there. Now, are udon yet?"

Sumireko blinked twice as she couldn't help but to wonder what just happened before she giggled a bit before she asked, "Was that a pun?"

Kagami giggled afterwards as she nodded. Maybe if she distracted herself with pun jokes or something, she would feel some format of relief which was something she needed after what she has been through.

While she was angry and disappointed with Sans for leaving her behind, she remembered one thing: his puns, which is a weakness of hers, and to an extent, she can't stand it but it's how things are for her in the end.

 

[Sans]

PUNS?!?! THAT'S NOT MIND READING! THAT'S JUST--

He paused for a moment, gazing at the both of them as he noticed the manner in which Kagami giggled. Suddenly, he seemed to brighten up.

REALLY GOOD COMEDY! HA HA HA! I AM LAUGHING UPROARIOUSLY!

He swiftly turned to face Sumireko. AND WHO MIGHT YOU BE, FELLOW LIBRARBY PATRON?

 

[Kagami]

Kagami giggles turned into laughter as she watched how Papyrus reacted. That was too perfect to ignore! Well, not without people hushing her in the distance as her laughter was being a bit distractive.

While Kagami was laughing, Sumireko was faced by Papyrus on his question and answered, "Yes I am and my name is Sumireko Usami. Though I think you meant library but that's okay."

She wasn't going to judge anyone on that. In fact, regardless of what the others call it, it's still the same place and before long, she asked, "If you don't mind me asking, what is your name?"

Kagami would answer back but she decided against it as she would be tempted to make more puns up for Papyrus to mess with him out of fun. After all, let the skeleton speak for himself in this as she would call it and secondly, she needed to calm down somewhat after this.

Though, judging by Sumireko, she seemed to be soft-spoken and calm though she did have some common interest to her and it would had annoyed Kagami to possibly have another goody two-shoes around but this doesn't seem to be the case here. Sans let her get away with stuff somewhat but maybe Sumireko would as well and additionally, Papyrus as well.

However, she remembered back to what Sans said about the mom. Something about Toriel.

Another lie. He left before he would actually do that to help out the King instead of doing what he is supposed to do and help her.

Thinking things out a bit more, he did recently mention about Toriel Dreemurr and that is when she has to take extra precaution for when she meets her eventually. Well, when the time comes, after all, she might prove to be a challenge to handle with, maybe worse than Booker if she's right.

 

[Sans]

THIS YOUNG BEAN IS CALLED KAGAMI! IT IS VERY GOOD TO MEET YOU, FELLOW SUMIREKO!

He simultaneously reached forward to shake Sumireko's hand and, at the same time, pat Kagami on her head. After a few moments, he pulled away and thrust a hand up into the air as he stood tall, brave, true, like a heroic warrior.

NOW, IF YOU'LL EXCUSE ME, I MUST GO AND CHECK OUT MY PAPERBACKS! THERE IS MUCH TO DO, NYEH HEH HEH!

He pivoted around and moved to scoop up his books. He clutched them to his chest as he hummed some sort of tune.

 

[Kagami]

Kagami was silent as she was patted by Papyrus, while thinking that this is going to be fun. Perhaps since Sans is away, maybe she can sow some internal discord between the brothers as a welcome back present to even the odds and as for Sumireko, perhaps she could invite her along for the ride.

Besides the name part, she did manage to pick up on other details about her and while Sumireko shook the skeleton's glove, she smiled as the moment when Papyrus left, Kagami settled down with Sumireko, sitting in the chair next to her, arms casually crossed on the table.

By looking towards Sumireko directly, Kagami asked, "So, Sumireko, is this your first time here?"

Sumireko shook her head. "Not really, I've been here a lot of times in the past. Well, mostly for schoolwork that is."

Kagami nodded. "I can understand. It's quiet, lots of books and stuff." Kagami nodded.

"Yeah. It's actually pretty nice not having to deal with people's phones going off and other noises. People just like to be on the computers more nowadays rather than reading a book or two." Sumireko sighed. "I know that technology is supposed to be a tool but there's other things besides just that. The Crossroads is huge so I'm sure there's plenty to look at and explore like the old ruins at the Hinterlands, the shrines and other things. Everything feels more alive."

Kagami wondered for a moment about what Sumireko was talking about and nodded. "Yeah, I agree."

Eventually, Sumireko looked around for a bit before she looked to Kagami with a smile. "Hey, I was wondering. Have you ever been to the Hinterlands before?"

Kagami replied, "No, but I had been around Mt. Ebott."

She avoided mentioning where she was really from for now. After all, she wanted to ensure Mt. Ebott is the only thing she has primary have focus on.

"Mt. Ebott?" Sumireko asked before she perked up. "Oh! Yeah! I heard about that place, but, how? There has been a legend that said that those that enter the mountain never return but then again, those monsters came out of the mountain a time ago and are around Arcadia. I wonder if people still use it to scare people off or something."

She leaned in a bit closer. " Were you from there? Have you ever been inside it?"

"No and secondly, yeah, I have. In fact, I'm planning to go back there but something tells me that we may need additional help." Kagami was looking to Sumireko and then to Papyrus who would be over where the paperbacks are. "There's something very important there."

Sumireko took a moment to remember about the argument that she was a bystander in between the shorter skeleton and Kagami from earlier.

"Something about Gaster and the Tall Man but I also heard that it would be dangerous as well." Sumireko wondered how dangerous though especially with how things are with strange occurrences being more as the normal as people are on guard.

Kagami looked back to Sumireko and smirked. "That's the fun of it, us against the unknown looking around for answers. You got to have some excitement going on and you did say that you wanted to do it as well, right?"

Sumireko was silent for a bit as she never really had anyone talk to her in this tone before. It felt genuine but at the same time, she can't help but to be conflicted as well, especially when people had been 'nice' to her in the past, they weren't friendly so she was taking this with caution.

"Yeah. I did." the brunette admitted. "It would be nice to see the other places around here and those further beyond."

"That's right." Kagami giggled. "We'll drop the news on Papyrus when he gets back and go from there."

"Sounds like a plan." Sumireko mused as Kagami nodded, though she wasn't a fan of Sumireko being cautious.

It sounds like she's going have to work on developing trust with the other. It'll do no good if otherwise as she needs this is to work out in her favor.

 

[Sans]

Papyrus loved paperbacks. He loved the look and feel of them. He loved the crispness of the pages, the fresh scent of ink that adorned its ridged surface, and the barest hint of magic that seemed to adorn just about every square inch of the Arcadian Library. Sans would have loved it here, he knew. HIS Sans would have loved it here.

It didn't seem odd, to Papyrus, about the concept of having "his" Sans. It was much the same way as a puzzle requiring puzzle pieces, and the correct ones at that. Sure, any piece with the right shapes and moved in the right places would form a picture, but only the pieces meant for the right puzzle would make the picture that it was meant to. He knew of many Sans', both by word of mouth and from personal experience, but not once had he ever found "his" Sans. To be fair, it wasn't like he could just tell at a mere glance, but he wasn't stupid. He could always tell when something was just off.

Thus, he didn't get his hopes up when Kagami mentioned his name. It had been long enough searching, and besides, the other Sans' weren't so bad! They were all lazy, after all, and they all needed their Papyruses-- Papyruses? Papyri? What was the correct plural noun again?-- to keep them from becoming sedentary. Not to mention, of course, the wide variety of spaghetti and puzzles that needed to be created!

Thus, after perusing the paperback section of the library, he grabbed a couple that seemed vaguely related to puzzles. He was about to head out of the library proper when he looked down at his pile of books and realized one was missing.

Whirling about, he finally saw it: Chef Boil Adee's Spaghettiary: 5th Edition, lying face down next to Kagami and her newfound friend. With haste, he bounced his way over towards them to pick up the book.

 

[Kagami]

Okay, so, seems like this wasn't a good time to talk about the return to Mt. Ebott. Ah well, that shouldn't be a problem to just readjust accordingly as Kagami would look down to the book somewhat. Besides, it was just a regular old cooking book of sorts after all, so she wasn't really interested.

Besides, she can't let something as trivial as that sway her away from what needed to be done and before long, Kagami would look up to the skeleton with a slight tilt of the head.

"Hey Papyrus, do you need some help with those books?" she asked curiously, looking to get up as Sumireko was watching Kagami as well but seemed to be a bit distracted with doing her schoolwork in the midst.

She still has some work to finish before it would be done and she would be freed up because she wasn't going to be late on her assignments.

 

[Sans]

NOT AT ALL! I, THE GREAT PAPYRUS, AM TALL AND STRONG ENOUGH TO CARRY THESE ENCYCLOPEDIAS OF PUZZLES AND PASTA MYSELF!

To demonstrate, he promptly settled the final book on top of his pile already within his grasp. He beamed at the both of them.

 

[Kagami]

Sumireko looked up in time and saw Papyrus do just that as Kagami replied, "Hey, just offering to help but since you got those down, think you could help me carry my load?"

She was feeling a bit tired as her sleepiness was catching up to her as she was briefly yawning.

"Well, next to maybe having a place to stay at?" she asked. "It's getting late and I'm sure the library is going to close up shop for the night sometime sooner or later."

Sumireko looked over to Kagami with concern as she asked, "Wait, you don't have a place to stay?"

Kagami perked up nervously. "A-ah, did I say that? Wow, I meant.."

The Beanish froze up as she was nervous before she sighed while lowering her head before admitting the truth. "No, I don't.."

Sumireko frowned as she didn't know what to say. After all, she hardly had visitors at her house around and it was just her and her parents but the thing was that they were particular on who comes over as a whole and they wouldn't want some random stranger coming home with her.

 

[Sans]

OF COURSE, BEANISH! I WILL GLADLY CARRY YOUR LOAD!

It didn't take him long to promptly pick Kagami up by the head and place her on top of the books he carried in his arms. He was becoming a bit more wobbly and his arms shook, but he was otherwise steadfast in his balance and posture.

THERE IS NO NEED TO WORRY, DEAR FRIENDS! THE GREAT PAPYRUS HAS A HOME HIMSELF!

He frowned a bit. ALTHOUGH... IT'S QUITE FAR FROM ARCADIA. IN FACT, IT IS REALLY FAR AWAY. ALL THE WAY OFF IN THE HINTERLANDS, IN FACT. OOPS. BUT I DO HAVE A HOME!

He twirled about, a confident smile on his face as he proceeded to jump on top of the computer table. NEVER YOU FEAR, YOUNG HUMAN-LIKE CREATURES! I, THE GREAT PAPYRUS, WILL PROTECT YOU ON THE JOURNEY THERE! WE WILL MARCH THROUGH WOODS, DOWN DIRT PATHS, AND BE MERRY! YOU WILL EXPERIENCE THE AMAZINGNESS OF MY TALENTS, OF MY SKILLS, OF MY GRAND PUZZLES! WE WILL BE THE GREATEST OF COMPANIONS!

Another series of hushed whispers promptly made Papyrus shut up. It seems he had gotten a little excited. He sheepishly clamped his mouth shut.

 

[Kagami]

Kagami mentally groaned as she sighed. More traveling? Outside Arcadia? Plus, literally being put on top of the book pile was a little much from the skeleton, but the fact was that Sumireko didn't want to be outside of Arcadia as her parents would be worried sick of her.

"H-hey, I don't mean literally carry me." Kagami wasn't meaning that load. She actually meant the books before she sighed as she looked over to Sumireko, "Hey Sumireko, can ya get the books?"

"Oh! Right! Don't worry, I got it." The brunette perked up as she would hurry over to the books on the table to scoop them up in her arms, alongside with the others she's using to study along other things.

Maybe if she could make the excuse that it's school-related, she can get by without issue as she didn't want to do this but she wanted to make sure Kagami is safe.

 

[Sans]

LET US SALLY FORTH, MY FRIENDS! TO THE PAPYRUS-MOBILE! NYEH HEH HEH HEH HEH!

And with all of that said and done, Papyrus marched forth out of the door, Kagami and his books in tow and to the sounds of distant protests bemoaning yet more unchecked books from the library.

 

[Kagami]

"Hey Papyrus, we really should go back to check the books out real quick and then head out." Sumireko suggested as she wasn't a fan of what is going on. "Let's do that and then come back because we really don't need trouble."

Kagami sighed, "Nah, it's fine. Let's go on and forget about it." A pause. "Actually, since you're carrying the books, why don't you do that?"

Sumireko looked at Kagami with an annoyed look as she wasn't going to take no for an answer and went back in to the library to get all the books checked out properly and once she was done, she rejoined the group.

"Sorry about that." Sumireko apologized as she waved at the librarian staff as Kagami sighed. "Now can we go?"

"Yes, let's go." Sumireko smiled, hoping they wouldn't penalize her for this mistake. In fact, she couldn't ruin her reputation with the library.

 

[Sans]

WE'RE SUPPOSED TO CHECK THEM OUT? I USUALLY JUST GRAB THE FIRST BOOK I SEE AND JUMP OUT THE WINDOW!

Granted, the last time he did that, the Keeper had given him a really nasty look, which is why he hadn't jumped out the window like he usually did. Nowadays, he uses the comparatively less dramatic "run out the door" method of leaving. It was so much less befitting, but the Keeper's rules were the Keeper's rules!

IN ANY CASE, LET US MARCH ON OFF! TO THE PAPYRUS-MOBILE! I HAVE PARKED IT RELATIVELY CLOSE BY! BEHOLD!

He gestured down the sidewalk. Sitting along and on it was a red corvette of sorts with no roof and a slick, sightly appearance. It looked dented in various areas, but otherwise was perfectly brand new in every way. Its front half was sequestered right in front of a "ARCADIAN LIBRARY PARKING" sign, with an arrow pointing around the spot that its front half was on. Tire skid marks trailed behind it; one could see said skid marks on the road beneath the various other chocobos, horses, wagons, and other less futuristic forms of travel. A plate of spaghetti adorned its left side door, and a remarkably buff version of Papyrus with glasses adorned its right side door.

ISN'T IT THE MOST BEAUTIFUL AND MAJESTIC TRANSPORTATION DEVICE YOU'VE EVER SEEN?!

Papyrus looked at Kagami and Sumireko, awaiting their replies.

 

[Kagami]

Well, this is good as Kagami sighed with a smile. "Yes it is! It is as beautiful and majestic as you Papyrus!"

The truth is that she only said that so she would gain favor with Papyrus.

"I agree!" Sumireko mused as she didn't want to hurt Papyrus' feelings. He's done so much for them even though it has been a short time of knowing the skeleton but atleast it is more sincere than Kagami's ordeal.

"Now, let's just kinda.." Kagami replied as she would hop off of Papyrus and land on the ground. "..okay that's better. Say, thanks for doing this Papyrus."

She dusted herself off briefly as she would stretch her arms and legs somewhat.

 

[Sans]

WHY, THANK YOU! IT IS A PLEASURE TO REVEAL SUCH SPLENDIFOROUS SIGHTS TO NEWLY-MADE FRIENDS!

He leaped into the air and landed in the front seat of the Papyrus-Mobile. He took out a key and placed it into the ignition, letting the vehicle roar to life.

NOW... YES! LET ME PUT IN MY MIXTAPE!

He reached into the glove compartment and took out some sort of disc that had the color and general look of a dinner plate. He promptly slapped it onto the radio in the middle of the front part of the car and pressed a button. Immediately, a banger tune began to loudly emanate from it, echoing all around them.

Papyrus turned his head to the others, a gleeful smile on his face. WELL?!?! GET ON IN!!

OOC: HERE IS MY BANGER TUNE!!! NYEH HEH HEH!

 

[Kagami]

At the time, Kagami and Sumireko looked to each other for a bit before they went into the car to different destinations as Kagami was in the front seat as Sumireko was in the back seat. While Sumireko buckled into her seat, she settled the books down her lap as Kagami didn't do so at first as she was looking around the car.

This is actually the first time she has been inside a car so it felt different to her as she was used to people traveling the old fashioned ways. It was odd..

"Hey Kagami?" Sumireko asked before Kagami looked back to her. "Yeah?"

Sumireko pointed to the seatbelt as Kagami perked up, "Oh! Right!"

Kagami would turn away from Sumireko as she looked around for the seatbelt up until she spotted it and buckled herself in. To her, this still was surreal but regardless, she eventually settled down before she looked to Papyrus.

The noise of the mixtape was loud and the biggest challenge for Kagami was dealing with the loudness. While she enjoys music, she doesn't enjoy this loudness and so this may end up testing her patience. Sumireko didn't know what to say about the mixtape but regardless, it was an interesting choice of music? The fact was that she didn't want to be rude or anything.

 

[Sans]

WHOOPEE!! OFF TO THE HINTERLANDS!!

With another grand "Nyeh Heh Heh!", Papyrus hit the gas pedal. The Papyrus-Mobile zoomed onto the sidewalk and, with a turn of the wheel, back onto the streets of Arcadia. Despite his speed, he seemed to be doing a good job avoiding pedestrians and other unlucky obstacles in the way of his car as he began making his way through the city.

PASSENGERS, DO FASTEN YOUR SEATBELTS WHILE ON THE PAPYRUS EXPRESS! UNDER YOUR SEATS, YOU WILL FIND AN ASSORTMENT OF COMPLEMENTARY PUZZLES! PERUSE THEM AT YOUR LEISURE!

Indeed, if one checked the bottom of their seat, they would find various puzzles like crosswords, junior jumble, spot the difference, and other sorts of puzzles for smart people for them to enjoy as Papyrus piloted their vehicle towards the outskirts of Arcadia.

 

[Kagami]

Sumireko still has to finish her schoolwork but the fact of puzzles? She doesn't mind and decide to partake in the activities while Kagami was mentally grumbling. How can anyone think with that noise? It's annoying her!

However, she needed to wait it out even though right now, she could practically bash at Papyrus' skull just about now in frustration.

Though, she decided against it as she went for the crossword puzzle and pretend to be amused by this mixtape. It will be all worth it in the end, just have patience.

While Sumireko was working on the puzzle, she was wondering about something else in silence being about her dreams. Something about the Hinterlands seem to draw out the familiar feeling she had been dealing with and moreso, the shrines. The very presence of them seem to draw her attention more than anything else almost if they were calling out to her.

Why was she drawn to them? She doesn't understand but she remembered when she was a child, it was almost like something was calling her from the other side. A whisper telling her to follow them before she was interrupted by the police and immediately brought home to her parents.

From that day on, that was the incident that made her parents more protective of her ever since. However, to this day, she couldn't help but to feel as this has happened before..

She sighed, though however, in her silence, Kagami was working on her puzzle but kept to herself as she was distracted in hopes to pass the time as they traverse the countryside, leaving Arcadia and into the Hinterlands.
