User name: R.I.G.S.

Have you read the rules? No

Character Name: R.I.G.S.

Character Source: Original

Starting Location: Erde Nona

Character Behavior:
Gentle Philosopher

R.I.G.S. is a large creature and he knows it. This mentality of reservation bleeds into most of his personality. He is a gentle giant with a heart of gold and a wondering mind. He tends to speak slower, to more carefully consider his words, and rarely raises his voice unless caught by surprise (or perhaps something tickles his fancy.)

Physical Description:

From knuckle to haunches, R.I.G.S. stands at 6 foot tall. Meaning, his arms are as long as the average man is tall. When standing on his hind legs, however, he stands just shy of ten foot. His general frame is very gorilla-like, including his facial features.

R.I.G.S. is covered in black carbide plating which appears almost armor-like (though its actual purpose states otherwise.) The two major alterations in the color scheme come from the glowing blue eyes and the silver plating upon his back.

Though his body is very articulated, the machinery around his face is the most delicate looking, with numerous small parts to allow for facial expressions. The metal is enchanted to be slightly morphable to further enhance this ability to convey emotions through expressions.

Character History:

R.I.G.S. was not always what he is today. Despite being an unaging mass of magic and machine, there was a point in his life where he was just a thing.

In the beginning, R.I.G.S. was but a clockwork beast. Like others of its ilk, this clockwork beast’s origins were unknown and it dwelled close to the surface of the ocean of slag beneath Govermorne. It was a simple, non-hostile machine that simply wondered about aimlessly.

During this part of R.I.G.S. life, it appeared like a small gorilla. Many projected a curious personality onto the passive construct, much like an actual baby gorilla might be. This was, of course, human projected emotion onto an emotionless machine. R.I.G.S. at this point in his life was an it, not a he. It was nothing but metal bits miraculously slapped together to exist in an automated way.

Only when it was discovered by the happily married, intelligent duo Rowan and Eliza Wight, that the creature’s true potential was realized. The initial interaction was in a moment of disrepair. The clockwork beast had wondered too high above the slag, and needed oiling to regain mobility.

In this moment of extremity, a new “memory” was formed. Seek help when broken. It was as simple as that, due to the lacking depth of its clockwork mind. This new memory, an instinct really, drove it to regard humans as a means of survival. Often, it would approach humans when it lost functionality. Rarely did it ever pan out.

Except, of course, when the Wight couple returned. The repeated association of these two individuals to the core memory expanded it ever so slightly. The clockwork beast “memorized” a few basic features of each human with each beneficial visit. After years of these visits, it would seek out the duo whenever they would leave.

Rowan and Eliza Wight took great joy in tending to the little construct. It was a glimmer of happiness in their rather troubled lives. The couple were in search of a means to bear a child, but both were barren. Rowan from exposure to radiation, and Eliza from internal damages from her arcane experiments gone awry.

It came as no shock to Rowan when Eliza eventually stowed the unfeeling machine aboard the ship. She would plead with her husband to keep it, but he stopped her short of her long-winded argument of many points and agree.

The first act of adoption was to bring their new pet to life. Rowan developed a crystal resin which held a large amount of conductive metal dust suspended within it. Eliza wove enchantments over the dust, over the resin and over the finished product in sequence. This would become the brain of the construct.

The new, more complex brain replaced what was effectively the guts of a dozen music boxes. Through a transcription enchantment, what few core memories were held in these metallic cylinders were transcribed into the brain. Electricity sparked between specs of dust, much like human synapses.

To power this, Rowan designed a small alternator and regulator encased within a gemstone shaped like a heart. Eliza enchanted the gemstone to keep the alternator within forever moving to create the electricity needed. With the regulator moderating the current to the new brain, the two organs acted very similarly to the heart and brain of a human.

Eliza took this one step further. The brain would store memory, but it would not have the chemical capability to induce emotions. Within the gemstones of the heart, she gave the spark of emotion. The psychic enchantment gave the electricity a magical aspect, which could “paint” emotion into memory.

Twenty years ago marked the day of installation, and the birthdate of R.I.G.S. In that time, minor improvements, upgrades and overhauls have forged something even the Wights did not expect.

R.I.G.S. became a gentle giant and something of a novice philosopher. Capable of great destruction, his evenings are spent in his garden, reading books or at the smithy of his parents… because to him, Rowan and Eliza might as well not have first names. They were his Father and Mother, respectively.

Abilities/Skills:

Hydrogen Fuel Cell
Adaptation: Need to Breath (200)
-- Side Effect: (-50) (Removes Endurance granted by Hydrogen Fuel Cell)

Endurance (100) Rank 1
-- Ongoing (+100)
-- Side Effect (-50) (Requires breathing)
-- Limited (-50) (Poor quality air or lack thereof can reduce or stop this effect)

R.I.G.S. is equipped with internal structures similar to lungs. These act as hydrogen Fuel Cells. When he breathes, carbon dioxide is broken down in the lungs to carbon and oxygen. Oxygen is then fused with hydrogen in the air to form water, which is exhaled. Carbon is often used to repair the exoplating.

This additional energy helps maintain longevity in R.I.G.S. power supply, but is not needed. In areas with poor air quality, or no air, R.I.G.S. may be slightly more lethargic.

Carbide Absorption Plating
Protection (100) Rank 2
-- Ongoing (+100)
-- Side Effect (-50) (Reduces the effectiveness of Endurance on Carbide Absorption Plating when damaged)

Adaptation: Starvation and Thirst (50)

Endurance (100) Rank 1
-- Ongoing (+100)
-- Limited (-50) (Damage can greatly reduce or eliminate this effect.)
-- Chaotic (-50) (Requires sunlight, or heat at a specific range.)
Subtotal (100/rank)

R.I.G.S is covered by a carbide alloy plating. This hard material is rather durable, acting as a layer of protection for the machine.

While protective, it serves another purpose. They are enchanted to absorb sunlight, much like the leaves of plants, and thermal energy between 290 and 400 kelvin. While standing in fire may be detrimental, laying next to one is as good a fuel source as any. This replaces R.I.G.S. need to eat and drink like the common gorilla.

Arcanotronic Fiber Musculature
Move Object (100) Rank 2
-- Ongoing (+100)
-- Chaotic (-50) (Clumsy)

Damage (100) Rank 4
-- Limited (-50) (Protocols dictate pulled punches)

By starting with mesh cords woven into a mock muscular structure and an enchantment to contract these cords when exposed to electricity, R.I.G.S. has been equipped with impressive physical strength.

His impressive lift capacity comes at a cost, however. Due to his gorilla-like form requiring arms for confident walking, and most of his power being in his arms, lifting and carrying anything of significant weight can prove awkward. Pushing and dragging can be a bit easier - if a bit more difficult.

His mighty swings are devastatingly powerful, however, and the six-foot arms are often used as a means of offense when he needs to fight back. This is, however, limited by design. An enchantment has been placed upon R.I.G.S. mind that forces hesitance in intentionally harming another living creature. He automatically pulls punches unless certain criteria are met.

If his life is genuinely in danger,
If protecting the life of another creature,
If the target is a non-living or non-sentient creature that can be classified as monstrous.

Beast Posture
Speed (200) Rank 1
-- Ongoing (+100)
-- Limited (-50) (Cannot be used in Stand Tall Posture)
-- Side Effect (-50) (Hands are occupied to gain the full benefit.)
Subtotal (200/rank)

Movement (200) (Climb)
-- Limited (-50) (Cannot be used in Stand Tall Posture, strong surfaces)
-- Side Effect (-50) Hands are occupied to gain the full benefit.)
Subtotal 100

Agility (200) Rank 1
-- Ongoing (+100)
-- Limited (-50) (Cannot be used in Stand Tall Posture)
-- Concentration (-50)
-- Side Effect (-50) (Hands are occupied to gain the full benefit.)
Subtotal (150/rank)

His favored Posture, R.I.G.S. normally moves about on all fours like a true gorilla. Due to his higher center of gravity (more forward when in Beast Posture) and his more powerful arms, he relies heavily on his front limbs for more precision movement.

Llike most gorillas (which he replicates), he is a capable climber. His heavy mass requires sturdier surfaces capable of actually holding his weight. In the absence of footholds, he will drill his fingers and toes into most anything short of metal thanks to his superhuman strength.

If he focuses on his mobility, he can become surprisingly agile with his motions despite his weight. He often uses this for complex maneuvers or quick adjustments when climbing and running.

Stand Tall Posture
Growth (200) Rank 1
-- Ongoing (+100)
-- Side Effect (-50) (Loses the benefits of Beast Posture)
-- Chaotic (-50) (Clumbsy)
Subtotal 200

Normally, R.I.G.S. moves on all fours, but occasionally he does traverse using only his back legs. The stubby little things are powerful enough to hold his weight, but while walking this way he tends to waddle about haphazardly.

Robotic Physiology
Adaptation: Chemical or Toxic Environments (50)
Adaptation: Disease (50)

Due to his lack of biological internal organs, he is immune to the toxins, chemicals and diseases that would normally plague human biology.
