Terror has swiftly smeared the air around Mesa Roja as more rumors about the unmaking swept the planet like a crashing wave. The news about the unmaking of Govermorne and the siege of Markov caused unease to the citizens of the cloudless world who feared for their safety. Chaos could be imminent even at the renowned fortress of the King of Heroes.

Jak and Daxter however, soundly slept that night at Gil's castle in the barracks, trying to make sense of the current situation. So far they had ignored the eventual unmaking rumors and it felt like they were high with the racing win and becoming known in Uruk.

So many things had gone right for the eco warrior and the ottsel, they were due for an eventual nightmare.

Uruk might be a grandiose shelter, but even castles could also start to lack comfort as much as moving around.

Daxter blinked as Jak slept “wake up, Jak.”

Not only did Jak not wake up, he rolled away from Daxter and muttered.

He was in the middle of a life-like nightmare.

As Jak slept, voices rang inside his head. Echoes of pleading voices coming from a couple of different directions bounced in the hero’s head like a static tune drilling into his brain. “Hero”

The voices were accompanied by the sound of the whistling wind that continuously crashed into Jak’s face. The sight of a cracked barren land welcomed the hero along with the vision of a female figure standing at a distance in front of him.

The eco warrior seemed stunned, turning in brief grunts “Huh? How do you find me?”

“Let’s say your sides led me to find you.” Furiosa commented in a brief tone.

Jak raised an eyebrow “My...sides?”

Furiosa nodded “Yeah, one of your “sides” called out to me.”

The female figure sat in a vehicle looking a bit worried for her people. Her form reminded Jak of the strong female Wastelanders back home however this woman was injured.

She had a metallic prosthetic arm like she might have lost it in a battle as she growled “You call yourself a hero when there are several planets falling and already unmade by an evil man who threatens our very existence itself? You’re no “Max” Rockanstany so far as I know.”

Jak remained quiet, guilt laden eyes looked up at the harsh truths the war veteran shot back at him. Funny, if this woman knew Damas, she could easily pass as his mother without long ears.

Furiosa pointed down at the planet “Look, Mesa Roja is in danger. Your new friends might be in danger too if you don’t do something.”

“The bandits on the planet are becoming ruthless, more so than you thought. They have gotten more dangerous as time rolls on and without someone doing something, this planet will fall like many of the others. I refuse to let that happen on my watch. I know in your heart, you’d refuse to let that happen too.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------

Furiosa eyed the man “Get inside my car, I’ll show you the realistic dangers this world is facing if you don’t believe me.”

As soon as Jak got into the passenger’s seat, the lady quickly stepped on the wheels, making her car rapidly dash through the barren wasteland. As the car accelerated, the terrain around them gradually shifted into absolute nothingness as if Dark Eco swallowed the planet whole. It didn’t feel like they were having a ride at all but rather, as if the backdraft around them were being morphed as if in a theater.

It was after a few moments of winding, tough ride when Furiosa finally skidded into a stop. Instantly, Jak found himself on a planet with unnaturally steel terrain. From a distance, he could see giant gear like islands, slowly winding as if they were inside a giant clock mechanism. As he surveyed the area around him, he realized that he was on one of the gear-like islands, recognizing the gear-toothed edge just a few meters from where they stopped.

The gear island they were on was totally empty in contrast with another one that caught Jak’s attention from afar. Gigantic steel buildings populated the land with chimney-like tubes, shooting up steam in the air, and mechanical gears that seemed to belong to each and every nook of the place. Being a car enthusiast himself, Jak was amazed by peculiar steam powered cars that all looked vintage in design.

Jak was familiar with the whole steam-powered cars but instead of steam, the vehicles back home utilized eco for fuel. Suddenly, the sky grew dark which made the ecowarrior turn his head up. A dark mist started to block the planet’s sun but unlike some ordinary mist, this one seemed to quickly grow larger every minute. As the mist grew closer, Jak observed that it wasn’t a simple darkened cloud but a swarm of locust-like beings that rapidly approached the planet. Jak quickly became angry with the sight of monsters prowling the once-beautiful planet.

The peace that once ruled the place suddenly turned into a chaos of terror as the deafening sound of alarms and screams resonated around the clockwork planet. Jak wanted to move however, he found himself paralyzed as the command for his own body was suddenly taken from him. He could only turn his head around, making him realize that the woman that accompanied him earlier was nowhere to be found. The demon-like locusts swarmed around the gear island in front of Jak, covering the whole place like a violent twister.

Warped renditions of folks who were normal made the eco warrior inch back with a bit of fear in his eyes. “What the hell had he missed while he was planet hopping?” He worried about the very real possibility that if he didn’t do something, Daxter and everyone he knew, friends or allies could be in the same state.

Jak gritted his teeth, wanting to do something about the city that’s in peril. With his pure determination, he was able to finally break free from his paralysis. He recklessly tried to make his way towards the other island and surprisingly, he stepped on the space between as if an invisible bridge exists. He swung his sword but no matter how much he attacked, it did nothing against the swarm of locusts. “NO! NO! SHIT! It can’t end this way!” He continued his attack relentlessly, even though he has long realized that there is nothing else that can be done.

He felt his guilt and anger at an all time high.

As he aimlessly cut through what seemed to be a mere projection of the town, the silhouette of a man suddenly appeared before him and clashed with his precursor sword. His opponent’s blade emanated a dark, eerie aura in contrast with the greenish glow from Jak’s sword. Slowly, the shadowy figure took the form of Shinku, surrounded by a dark wave of energy and his face dull as if the boy was possessed.

“Save me.” The figure of Shinku muttered then after a short while dissipated into nothingness.

The eco warrior scrambled to say something, pushing against the twisted version of Shinku “Shit, Shinku… I can’t...lose you..”

After that, Furiosa’s voice echoed throughout the planet eventually reaching back up at Jak “Hero, it doesn’t have to end this way.”

The long eared man looked up and sighed, turning “I know, the planet is getting worse from here on out.”

As if on cue, the planet looked like it was getting dark and stormy back over the castle of Babylon, it was actually becoming pretty silent as on cue around Mesa Roja which was starting to scare the ottsel.

The ottsel shook the eco warrior as he ran outside the barracks. So far the planet started to observe these strange changes near the castle such as the plants becoming strangely darker than usual.

Daxter was starting to freak out and paced back and forth among the barracks hallways, holding his hands on his face “Come on, Jak, what the hell are you dreaming of? This world needs you and needs YOU now!”

It was then Furoisa looked at the eco warrior and pulled the car back up to him “Over here, I need to show you what’s happening to the planet Mesa Roja now. The Unmaking has gotten worse.

“Look now, hero. The planet has started its unmaking process and has worsened. I’ve noticed pockets of unmade starting to grow and fortify certain areas of the desert. It’s only going to grow by pockets each time unless you get your ass out there and do something.. These people look for heroes like you to save them, are you going to be there for them?

“I need you to go and find a few unmade beasts and destroy them, one at a time until you are able to fight back. It may seem like a harrowing process in the long run but I trust you know what you are doing.

Furiosa softly put her hand on the eco warrior’s trying to remind him of his duty and sighed. “Good luck, hero. I’ll be watching from a distance.”

With that being said, the eco warrior felt Furiosa’s presence in his dream suddenly fade away as the eco warrior shot up from his small bed, holding his head. “Ugh… what the hell happened out there, Dax?”

Daxter scuttered back into where the eco warrior was lying and hopped on his chest “You mean what happened to YOU out there, Jak?!”

Jak held his head trying to rub away the sleeplessness that hit him “It’s a long story Dax, I was having a live vision almost a nightmare of what is happening on this planet and of other planets. The Arbiter named Furiosa came to me, showing me what happened out there.”

The ottsel looked worried “Jak, you aren’t losin’ it, aren’t you?”

Jak shook his head “Dax, it’s real. All those things I’m telling you about now, look outside. The skies are getting a bit worse off and you saw the .. minor changes in the plant life right?

Daxter thought for a second, placing his hand to his chin, stroking it for a second “Come to think of it, Jak… you are right. I was pacing outside the barracks and oddly nobody seemed to be doing anything about it.

Jak frowned “You know, Furiousa reminds me of someone I or we used to know a long time ago, Jak. For a second, Daxter places a hand on the man’s lips “Shhh, I mean do we have time to waste talking about the problems of the day or should we actually go and save the day, Jak?

Jak followed with a brief eye rolling, getting up, lifting Daxter’s furry paw off his lips “Huh, you are willing to go with me without problems, Dax? Dax waved it off and smirked, rubbing his hands. On the other hand, the fuzzy ottsel was a little nervous and shaken at the back of his mind about possibly fighting some unmade creatures.

Daxter rubbed his head “As long as I’m there with you this time, buddy. Friends till the end right, Jak?”

Jak high fived Dax “That’s the ottsel I know. The bravest damn ottsel of our time. “

Jak sat on his bed, sighing as he slid on his bracers, his chest pieces and his shoulder pads over his various garments on his tunic. This hero business started to wear on him sometimes. He closed his eyes for what seemed like a second and slipped his goggles over his eyes again and slipped his red handkerchief over his lips.

“Daxter, are you ready as well?”

Daxter had his own goggles over his eyes and his own handkerchief tied over his mouth over the time he’d been with Jak, he prepared his own way.

The eco warrior then stared at the double hilted red precursor sword on his back, staring it down for the longest time. “Precursors, help me and Daxter out there.” closing his eyes in what seemed like a silent prayer to the ottsel gods of his world.

Jak closed his eyes and gritted his teeth “Shinku, wherever you are, I hope to whatever world’s gods they have that you make it. Precursors watch over you as well.”

Throughout Jak’s eyes, there was a storm brewing not only on the outside but on the inside too. An angel and demon hinging on complaining a long time ago slowly watched the eco warrior stare down his sword and was going to do something potentially risky once again.

“Mar…”

“Jak…”

“What in the HELL do you reckon you are going against out there?”

The eco warrior stood in a light almost confident stance.

Once again it felt like he was mumbling to himself.

Daxter waved a hand in front of the eco warrior, once again trying to get his attention. “Who you talking to?”

Jak sighed “My sides wanted a chat again.”

Daxter nodded “What do they want now?”

Jak looked back “Mostly a warning of what could happen out there if we aren’t too careful.”

Daxter frowned “I think it might be a wise time to heed their words if we are going out there without being too careless. “

Jak looked at the ottsel without looking up “I know, Dax.. I’m worried too, but I’m even more worried what could potentially happen if none of this is rectified soon.

The eco warrior grasped the hilt of his precursor sword and pulled it out, the green energy flowing through the sword, giving off a healing vibe toward the man, took a breath.

He then stabbed it in the ground, letting the energy off the sword course through his veins, the healing giving him confidence, determination and maybe a bit more.

It felt weird depending on a magical sword for once instead of his trusty gun but he had to switch it up once in a while.

Speaking of his weapons, he still had to upgrade the mods on his weapons. He wasn’t sure what else he was doing but he really needed to work out a few more kinks in his guns.

Hopefully his sword can be his guiding light in this rough time. Right now, he felt the eco churn in his stomach, every color of eco of course and he would have to learn to convert it to this places usable currency.

As Jak pulled the sword out of the ground, like the mythical King Arther would do out of a regular stone, he closed his eyes for a few seconds and nodded at Daxter.

“Dax, I think I’m ready.”

Daxter waved a hand again at Jak, earning a light head pat by Jak “Are you completely certain this time you are ready for this?”

The eco warrior grabbed everything he had and walked towards the dune buggy he had coming here to Babylon. He and Daxter sat in the seat as they prepped themselves for the long road ahead.
