New Character Name: Koa
Is this character an OC or a Canon character? Original Character
Starting Location? Erde Nona
Character Behavior
Koa is a kind-hearted merchant. She’s honest, straightforward and maybe a bit reserved at times, but ultimately a friendly person. If you invited her to a barbecue she’d be the one bringing a case of beer and some vegetarian options.
Koa is also a merchant: her strengths are not on the battlefield wielding a sword and a shield, but behind the counter wielding a quill and an abacus, working out a deal that works for both sides and leaving customers and patrons feeling like they’re treated fair. She will attempt to negotiate and defuse a dangerous situation with honeyed words and perhaps a little coin rather than with cold steel, though if the situation is well and truly hopeless she’ll usually turn tail and run, or get out of the way of more capable fighters, offering what little support she can from the backline.
Physical Description:
Koa's a fishwoman native to Opealon's seas - a mandarin dragonet fish to be precise. Having been born and raised at depths where the immense water pressure would crush and flatten most surface lifeforms into pancakes, she sports a muscular and athletic build. As is the case for all fishmen she is amphibious and capable of breathing both in water through gills and air through lungs.

Character History:
Koa was born in Opealon, specifically in a small town called Scylla's Rest around seven kilometers below the surface of the ocean planet, to a fishwoman mother and a merman father. Due to the town's small nature and everyone needing to wear many hats to make ends meet for themselves and the community as a whole, she and her younger mermaid sister Namari learned harpoon hunting, seaweed farming, clam-harvesting, squid herding and many other professions. Most importantly though, as all young fishmen do, she learned the merchant craft.
It should be noted that fishmen believe that unique deities called ‘kami’ reside in all things, and collect and hoard rare items that they believe to house powerful kami. These items would bring power and prosperity to the owner and their kin. As a rule of thumb, the older and the rarer an object is, the more powerful the kami in it is. The best way to acquire and collect these rare items is through trade with the outside world. As such, fishmen learn the arts of calculating, haggling, bargaining, working out deals and drafting contracts to enable them to one day build their own prosperous collection. And Koa was no exception.
The beautiful dream was not to last, however.
On her 24th birthday, Koa was going to rise to the surface with several items she had found or made that would be valuable to a surface-dweller. And as they do, on the party the evening before she indulged a little too much on the alcohol due to her nervous anticipation and, when she went to pray to the family heirloom, a jade statuette from the surface depicting an elephant that was passed down through generations, a misstep in her drunken state and her flailing arms as she tried to catch herself knocked the statuette down from its pedestal and broke it.
The shock and realization of what had happened sobered the young fishwoman right up. But she could not face her parents for this, so when Namari came in to check what the crash sound was about Koa confessed everything to her and told her to give the following message to her parents: that she would go to the surface as planned, but that she would not return to Scylla's Rest until she had earned enough Coin to buy a replacement for the heirloom she had broken, even if it took her years. Tearful goodbyes and hugs were exchanged between the sisters, then she rose to the surface with her meager belongings, somehow managed to get onto an island and sought out the most prospective market she could find.
To make a long backstory short she decided to try her luck in Erde Nona, managed to scrape together enough money to buy herself a trip to Arcadia, and departed her homeworld. But that is where the story really begins.

Waddoya expect? She’s a fish-woman!
Koa can breathe underwater and outside of it thanks to her lungs and gills. ‘Switching’ respiratory systems takes some ten seconds.
Koa can also share her air with others, usually by way of mouth-to-mouth breathing. In a pinch, she could sustain up to three people by rapidly cycling between them, but they must remain close to each other for that to work. And let’s not talk about the awkward aftermath...
Master Skills & Perks:
Social (Merchant) Rank 4: Koa is a fairly skilled merchant. While not all that experienced (yet), she has learned and practiced the craft a lot in her hometown and knows how to drive a hard bargain without disgruntling her customer or business partner. And as she builds a network of business contacts that like her, she's often given a better deal for her purchases than the average Multerran.
Perk: Consumables Discount (Rank 4 - 1200)
Driving/Piloting (Carriages) Rank 2: Koa is decently skilled at handling carriages and wagons of the type pulled by animals. She’s most comfortable with driving caravans and carriages bearing trade goods. Transporting them herself instead of paying good money for them to be delivered to the craftsman that'll use them or the location they're used at, allows her to decrease her spendings when it comes to getting a structure built or her beloved carriage improved.
Perk: Bases/Upgrades Discount (Rank 2 - 600)
Craft (Brewing & Wining) Rank 1: No, not whining! Wining as in operating a winery, the equipment to produce wine. With the fermentation processes to brewing beer and making wine being fairly similar, Koa is somewhat familiar at performing both, and typically has a barrel or two of booze in the back of her carriage, fermenting away.
Craft (Cooking) Rank 1: Koa's got the basics down and can usually put together something edible out of whatever's at hand. It's not five-star gourmet opealonian cuisine, but with the right ingredients she can make something savory and nutritious.
Survival (Foraging) Rank 1: Though she prefers to check with a guidebook, Koa is able to forage all sorts of food in the wilds and distinguish what is and isn’t edible.
Combining this with her brewing and cooking skills, she can keep herself from going hungry or thirsty in the wild, saving on food and drink expenses and reducing her reliance on packed rations.
