A tentative one, as of now.

My interest in potentially running a game of 40k (specifically the RPG, not the tabletop minis game). My current designs line up most heavily with Dark Heresy, specifically 2e though incorporating a bunch of content from 1e as well, where relevant and with necessary conversions.

These systems can be a bit of a bear, especially in the areas of math and keeping track of modifiers, but I have a (fairly) decent grasp of it all and I can/will help as necessary, so rest assured I will gladly lend a hand and make sure you don't miss anything obvious.

It would involve using Roll20 to host/store character sheets and for rolling dice, but would otherwise be played entirely here, via forum posting. Partially so that everyone can see and behold the utter misfortune and crowning moments of awesome (and awesomely hilarious) that tend to occur in these sorts of games, but also partially so that the pace of it can be slowed down a little and not force anyone to commit to a specific time for a sit-down hours-long session, and it has more availability to sort out those cursed things called "time zones".

Ideally, this would need at least 3 to 4 players, though in a stunning surge of insanity, I think the upper limit will be 8 players. Whether you've played before, or have no idea what this even is, you're more than welcome, if you have any interest. I can provide books and resources as needed, as well.

If you're interested, have any questions or just want to tell me I'm insane, drop a post here.

Kindly ignore the spoiler above, as it has served its purpose now. As I said I would, here are the base ground rules I have set in place for this game, to more easily find them:
• Activity -- I'm not going to pressure anyone about this. The whole point of doing this in this format is so that it can fit into people's schedules. Ideally, just checking in at least once a week to drop a quick post about what (if anything) your character is doing to help keep the investigation moving will be fine. More than that would be lovely. I might be a bit more of a stickler when combat (inevitably) arises, but we can deal with that when we get to it.
• Clarification -- To be clear in regards to the above: that is not a limit; If you want to do more, and roleplay your hearts out among each other, or with NPCs, DO IT! That's how you get to ask questions and do stuff like dig up information and make contacts, which will be very important for your in-character lives.
• OOC Commentary -- Keep it to a minimum in the IC thread. If you have something quick to do, like noting the use of items or special actions or etc, you can do so in a quote at the post's end. Keep any other OOC stuff, such as questions or anything like that, in here so we can keep it all flowing smoothly.
• Questions -- ASK THEM. Whether it's about lore your character might know even if you don't, if you want to know if something is possible before attempting it, if you're confused about a rule or rules. The only stupid question is one you don't ask!
• Test Bonuses -- I will be doing my damnedest to keep track of everything in this regard. But I can't catch literally everything, especially if it comes from inside your wacky brains. If you want to do something specific or unique, or something aside from the obvious that you think might be worth some kind of bonus, or if other party members want to pitch in and assist or something, then tell me about it! This system thrives on doing things unorthodoxly, and group effort against sometimes overwhelming odds!

.....this is because me isn't it well I'M USING THE PREMADE MODULES FIRST DAMNIT (i'd also love to play myself )

giphy.gif

I can neither confirm nor deny that. But I will probably be starting with some 1e modules, as they have some overall easier beginnings and so I'm not running the same module(s) you are simultaneously.

I am interested, but I also might be in a different Warhammer campaign. The DM hasn't responded or accepted me yet though.
Due to the timing, pace and manner this one will be run, that won't really be a problem.

With proper hindsight after getting some sleep, I've updated the thread title to give a better idea of what this was/is an interest check for.

To further expound on that:
-- I will be using some (read: A Few) house rules and changes to base things, chiefly in regards to some skill checks and starting exp/items/weath
-- I love math and keeping track of modifiers, distance/range, environmental lighting, number of enemies, etc. as I said, I will help you figure out what bonuses and/or penalties and such that you get and when, but be ready!
-- I do, however, dislike the more extreme minutiae of tracking every single individual item in your inventory and its weight and etc. I don't plan to have you meticulously keep track of carry weight, beyond the honor/common sense system of "how much could you reasonably carry"

To that end, for anyone who is familiar with Dark Heresy (or the 40k systems in general) and happen to be interested, if you could give a general idea of what kind of character you're down to play, that would be of immense help in planning/pre-planning things on my end.

I am not familiar with playing the game but I do know a lot of the lore and stuff thanks to If the Emperor Had Text to Speech and the wiki. Sadly it seems the Black Crusade campaign I was interested in accepted me. Turns out the DM was still a little sore about some players leaving him and getting a cold so it took a while for him to respond.

As of now that's 3 people who have expressed interest to play. Ideally we'd need a minimum of at least one more, up to the limit of 8 I mentioned.

To further further add onto what I mentioned about some house rules:
-- I will be including some extra options for how to roll for or determine your starting stats/characteristics.
-- Starting XP: There will be an extra 500 on top of your normal starting 1,000. For various reasons. Your inquisitor has picked out talented individuals, or will have put you through the ringer of training.
-- Starting Items are as normal for your background/role and starting Influence. In addition to that, you get three free items of up to Scarce availability, and can freely choose from any Items of Common availability or below. Past that, once I get the roll20 set up to track rolls, you can try to roll for/requisition any other items you'd like as normal.
-- Starting talents/traits: Depending on your character background and history and such, I will work to come up with a little unique something for you, that may provide a small bonus here and there.

For purposes of character creation:
-- Limited to Dark Heresy 2e for character details, such as home world, background, role, and XP expenditures.
-- You may draw from and use material from the Core Rulebook, Enemies Within, Enemies Without, and Enemies Beyond.
-- Purely for item/equipment purposes, you can request items from 1e material as well. Pending on what it is, I'll look it over and convert it as necessary.

For story purposes:
-- Your patron Inquisitor is named Jovinius Haugaard.
-- He has met each of you personally, at least in brief. This was either shortly before, during, or shortly after your recruitment, induction, or conscription into his service. You are free to elaborate on this, if you wish.
-- He is a venerable Inquisitor with countless years of service who has worked for or with multiple Ordos at one point or another, though which ones aren't common knowledge, and any deeper knowledge is either tightly guarded or simply unknown to you at this point in time
-- He is not an extremely radical sort, but neither is he an obsessively by-the-book and strict puritan. As long as actions are undertaken piously and righteously in the Emperor's name, the ends justify the means.
-- While he will rarely (if ever) have time for extended communication or a direct meeting, he is receptive enough toward brief contact and check-ins for status updates, mission reports and the like.
-- He does not approve of his name or title being used wantonly and recklessly, so do so at your great personal discretion.

I will endeavor to get things set up and have the roll20 prepared sometime this weekend, and will be reading over modules and lore stuff over the next week or so, to hopefully start either next weekend, or whenever we have a suitable party that is prepared and ready to go. I will shift this thread into an OOC role to keep track of relevant information and questions, and create the IC one when we are ready to start.

In the meantime, if you gots any other questions about anything, just lemme know. I am here to answer.

Alright. As promised, I have the Roll20 made and (mostly) set up and prepared. Links to the available/required resources for the game are already there, and I will be adding in some handouts to include the various homerules and the like I will be using in the coming days.

Anyone who had or has interest, just gimme a shout and I'll get you the link.

Alrighty. As of now, we have four people who have shown interest and signed up to make characters. This is enough to start, but a few more would not be amiss.

Current party comp:
Tessa -- Highborn Mutant Psyker
Morgan -- Forge World Mechanicus Pilot
Jeff -- Penal Colony Arbites Warrior
Weiss -- Hive World Imperial Guard Assassin

For anyone else who may be interested, I can help along with character creation (as that is arguably the hardest part of this system, for better or worse) and anything else needed. Stay tuned for further delving into chaos.

How's everyone in the fold so far doing so far character-wise?

I've settled on the module we'll be starting off with, and aside from a little digging up on lore to get a good understanding of the things going on, I'm more or less all set on my end. Probably going to get the IC thread up abouts next Monday or so, if everyone's all set by then.

I've converted this thread officially into the OOC thread for the upcoming game. As mentioned previously, I will have the IC thread up by next Monday, or sooner if everyone is ready to go before then. Before we get to that point, some general ground rules (which I will probably edit into the first post here at a later time, to be easily and quickly found):

Those are just some quick, off the top of my head rulings right here and now. If anyone has any other questions in the vein of rules like these, I refer you to point 4 above! More will (inevitably, probably) come later, I'm quite sure.

And now for some in-character information about the upcoming plot for you all!
• Your Inquisitor, as mentioned before, is Jovinius Haugaarde. He's a venerable old man who's been serving the Imperium at large for over a century, though more than that (including how long he's been an inquisitor, and for which Ordos) is largely a mystery to you all, at this point.
• Though you may all have been serving in some way in his retinue for varying times, this will be your first mission together as a team.
• Your objective is to safeguard and assist a much senior, rather favored agent in Haugaarde's retinue in his investigation on the barbaric world of Iocanthos.
• The senior agent's name is Aristarchus. Your knowledge of him at large is as follows:
-- He is a sanctioned Imperial Psyker of some small measure of renown
-- He is known quite well as a seer, specializing in prophesy, prognostication and detecting warp phenomena.
-- He is famed for his highly accurate predictions, and his readings of the Emperor's tarot
-- He is a direct, though quite distant, descendant of the legendarily famous Saint Drusus
• Aristarchus's investigation was called for by formal request of Missionary-Abbot, Prelate Orland Skae
• The investigation was called due to series of unsettling reports of strange and possibly warp-spawned phenomena that are plaguing and potentially upsetting the closing stages of founding a new cathedral, in the settlement of Stern Hope
• Travel has been arranged for you on the void freighter Brazen Sky, in which you will travel to Iocanthos and rendezvous with Aristarchus at the Imperial outpost-city of Port Suffering

That is where the IC thread, and the game proper, will begin. Already onboard the freighter, Brazen Sky, and on your way to Iocanthos. There is a full in-character report, which I will have prepared and present in full once the game begins, for your characters via dataslate. Make sure you have all your character sheet done, and do any item requisitions you might want to do (including your one special Inquisitor-granted one for the group) before you give the all-clear to get underway.

Okay, so considering we get one special item for the group to share....should it be a vehicle, or a super special weapon that we can use in dire circumstances (like when the power rangers combine their weapons, Jason's the one who actually fires it)
